Susan Tuttle’s description hooked me, and along with the consistent, measured voice offered in this novel, the hooking lured me to one page after another. Set in the 1860’s, Tuttle offers a glimpse back into the past of women given little freedom, thus giving her character Marina a desire for independence, only to eventually find herself ensnared in deception and the uncertainty of where reality begins and insanity looms. I enjoyed much of this book. It echoed other works of the show more Victorian period that also produced similar endings. If that was her intention, to replicate a Victorian story, then Tuttle most definitely did her part. A Matter of Identity is well researched, well written, and will truly gratify readers interested in this era. show less
