"The Art of Aardman" by Aardman Animation Ltd is a concise guide to the creation of animation (or claymation in case of Aardman). It offers a fascinating pictorial history of the development of characters used in various Aardman productions, including "Creature Comforts", "Shaun the Sheep" and "Wallace and Gromit". My only complaint is that I wanted more - more details, more pictures, more everything. I bought this book after seeing the 40 year anniversary exhibitions at ACMI in Melbourne. show more It is a wonderful companion piece for the exhibition. One for the fans. show less
This is a book I've had on my shelf for a while, but never read. It was given to me by a friend when I was taking a class on stop motion animation. I grew up seeing stop motion as a kid, especially during Christmas season. I had seen some of the Wallace and Grommit shorts, and Chicken Run as well. This book details the entire process of making stop motion animation at Aardman. It is so much more in depth than I had learned in my little introduction class.
This book uses an extensive show more collection of pictures to document the process of creating the characters and bring them to life, one frame at a time. While this method isn't very common now, it would be a great introduction to animation concepts for young readers. show less

I don't follow Wallace & Gromit, so this book would mean more if I did, I'm sure. Still, it's an interesting mix of silliness and "Uh, the sheep's probably right about that advice!"
This is one of those little 'open at any page and you are given some wisdom' books and its great because its the most famous sheep in Britain guiding you to inner peace and harmony.
