This is still the most pre-eminent comparative dictionary for the main Indo-European languages. (A paperback printing 2012).

Buck's Dictionary remains an indispensable tool for diachronic analysis of the Indo-European languages. The topical arrangement was Buck's genius, widely emulated today around the meanings of words so that the expression in different languages can be compared.

Buck also discusses the roots and history of the words, so this is a resource for history, etymology, and show more semantics. And of course, it remains an indispensable indispensable tool for diachronic analysis of the Indo-European languages. Arranged according to the meaning of words, the work contains more than 1,000 groupings of synonyms.

This work is part of the ongoing comparative dictionary movement. For example the topic and word list, is incorporated in, expanded, and used as the model for the largest dictionary project in the world, now known as The Intercontinental Dictionary Series, Max Planck Institute, General Editor, Bernard Comrie. (Founder: Mary Ritchie Key).
