I love the illustrations in this version, by Edward J. Detmold. They have an Asian artwork feel to them. I will be honest, I only read the tales half way through, but the illustrations have been poured over.

This was a pretty quick read for me. And I liked it, although not as much as I had predicted I would. Most of the tales seemed kind of repetitive by the end, though there were some really cute stories mixed all in with some really good morals. Not my favorite book, but I'd still recommend it for some light reading.

Detmold is usually given as author here but he did the illustrations; I have no idea where the text came from (have been searching for translator but not yet found).

This edition contains nine of the most famous of the 'Tales from the One Thousand and One Nights', originally told by Scheherezade to her murderous husband - to keep herself alive she would always stop at a moment of cliff-hanging excitement. The adventures of 'Aladdin', 'Ali Baba and the forty Thieves' and 'Sindbad the Sailor' are made more vivid by Detmold's beautiful paintings.
