Although the ending was pretty satisfying, I found HARROW LAKE to ultimately be middle of the road. The parts that were creepy became way less so after they were repeated time and time again, and nothing in the scare department felt very fresh. Although I liked the premise of the book, I felt like the execution was just missing that bit of pizazz to make it truly unique.

* I got this book for review for the publisher for my honest thoughts*

I enjoyed this read. I loved contempoary reads that might have magic twist. I though the main character was a fun character and her backstory made her super easy to read from. I also thought the mytery elements and the pacing of the books was strong. I thought some of the murders were a bit predictable but still a really engaging read. I also did not see the end coming and that was def my favorite part. A fun read, but does deal with harder topics like grief and was a super fast pace read!… (more)

DNF'ed at 136 pages - this book confuses the heck out of me and not in a good way.

It looks like I'm having an unpopular opinion on this book, which is unfortunate. I was intrigued almost immediately when I saw the synopsis, had spent a decent chunk of BEA trying to search it out (the BEA website had listed the wrong publisher in which to find out about the book), so when the opportunity arose I gratefully accepted the publisher's review offer.

I started it the day I received it, but found my interest dimming the more I read. I can't say what made me lose that spark of interest--certainly the main character is the kind I normally like (sassy, smart, a little reckless) and I still was intrigued by what was going on with her. I just...didn't seem to care enough to keep reading.

So I put it aside for a little while to see if maybe I was just burned out from YA. Came back to it and had the same problem. This third time I came back to it I finally decided this book isn't me.
