A tremendous spy thriller with the wonderfully simple but alluring premise -- what if the Moneypenny-trope character was blamed for the murder of the James Bond-trope character? Only this Moneypenny turns out to have quite the past, and might just turn out to be more Bond than even Bond. Fast-paced, exciting, with great character moments and great use of the genre. My only slight complaint is that the end feels a tiny bit abrupt and by-the-numbers compared to the rest of the tale -- but it's show more still quite good. show less
Fifteen years ago, on or about the 13th of October I was diagnosed with Cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma, successful cure after 6 months, 12 rounds, of Chemotherapy) and next week I am due to go to the Oncologist for what will hopefully be my last visit. Jane Foster and her experiences resonate. I would have loved to have the escape of being someone else, of having power over something (I had knitting, it was a minor victory to finish something). Her weakness is shown several times during this show more story to be her strength. Her human body may be failing but her spirit is very strong.and she refuses to go softly into that good night. In this she fights against the dark elves and against the gods of another realm and against those who would undermine her. Using the rage against her illness often in interesting ways.

I find it compelling reading, this is my Thor.

Another dark, brutal, and completely amazing World War II adventure from Garth Ennis. The artwork by Steve Epting is beautiful even when depicting the brutality of war.

Sara is part of a team of female snipers trying to beat back the Nazi invasion one well-placed bullet at a time. This is fiction, but there were indeed such women soldiers fighting for the Soviet Union. Ennis does not glamorize the women or go for over-the-top action like a Charlie's Angels movie. These are serious warriors show more fighting for their lives and the lives of their comrades. show less
This story arc is very powerful, just as engaging and just as earth-shaking in its events as was the Civil War arc which preceded it. What I like best about this collection (and its sequel collection, as well) is the way that it takes time to explore the impact that Steve Rogers had on those around him, and the central place that he held in the Marvel Universe. Can anyone else even fill the role of Captain America, living up to the symbol as Rogers did? His death left a void in the center of show more Marvel's world, and this unpacks the implications of that loss beautifully. Undoubtedly some of Brubaker's best work. show less
