Irish Fairy tales & legends is a collection of different folk tales collected and edited by Una Leavy and Susan Field. The tales teach different lessons and morals to the children whom they are read to and at the time would have told to.
I find the tales interesting though some of the names are difficult to pronounce because they are traditional Celtic names. they are more in depth then a fable but are still kept short. I enjoyed reading them, i was particularly interested because i have show more Irish background.
These stories would be good to read to students like any fable would be, and could be used to teach morals and relate to their own lives. show less

If you've ever lived in the country, you've probably experienced a stormy night with the electricity out. This story captures the sense of nature's power and the family's reassuring response: light lanterns, build a fire, play games, stay together. Absorbing the unspoken lesson, Harry awakes in the night and hears his baby brother, upset. He goes to comfort him and stays with him until daylight. Warm, wonderful story.
The majority of the book is spent establishing and detailing the relationship between Shane and Peter and their grandfather. Pappa dies soon after a visit from the boys. The boys attend the funeral and then spend the night at Pappa's house. Their mother comforts them with the advice that they should "[t]hink of all the happy times you had." A lyrical text with soft illustrations. It does not help explain death, or help ease the grieving process, but would provide a good starting point for a show more discussion on the topic. show less
