Short biography
From the Scholastic web site: Gloria D. Miklowitz is the author of over 60 fiction and nonfiction books for children and young adults. Her books have won national and international awards and deal with important issues such as racial injustice, steroid abuse, date violence and militia involvement. Three of her novels were made into award-winning television specials, including one which won the Emmy for "Best Children's Special" in 1985 (The War Between the Classes). A frequent speaker at schools, Ms. Miklowitz has also taken part in conferences in the USA, South Africa and Sweden.

Read this one when I was a kid. I was obsessed with Nadia and gymnastics in general at the time so I really enjoyed it.

Netta, an Israeli, is troubled when her brother doesn't come home. The family had moved to Los Angeles, and had brought their knowledge of the terror of Palestinian/Israeli conflict with them, and it affected how they saw things. A Palestinian boy, who reminds her of suicide bombers, sits down, and she suddenly suspects him in her brother's disappearance. In the end of the book, Netta and her parents find out that Adam was NOT killed because he was Jewish or from Israeal. The Palestinians had nothing to do with his death.… (more)

In a gripping story about "New Christians" and the Inquisition, the author captures the terror of the times and the varying degrees of Jewish loyalty among members of one family.
