2.5 raised to a 3 star because I at least enjoyed the first third. The explanation to it all though was completely unbelievable and contrived and had me ripping out my hair in chunks.

Hannah and Will have moved to a remote rural village, hoping for a new lease on life and a better chance of starting the family they always hoped for. But, things don't go according to plan. Creating a home from a run-down property is a mammoth task, and the couple's unaddressed issues from years of failed fertility programs haven't been addressed. To top it all off the locals seem more than a little odd and somewhat passive-aggressive. Strange things start happening in the house - food goes missing, things are moved and items broken. Who is getting into their house?

"Hidden Girl" is a gripping, often alarming story. The characters are all a bit quirky and Hannah's anxiety and obsessional behaviour, and Will's inadequate responses are believable and distressing. It is a great story and an entertaining read.

Their marriage seemed to abruptly resolve is problems in a way that I didn't think was too believable. Also, the other characters in the town could have been developed a little more. The writer was vague about them and their relationship to one another and standing in the town until the very last part of the book. Would have liked a little more background on them. However, the beginning of the story when Hannah was alone in the house and hearing noises and other things did give me a few weird dreams after reading before bed.… (more)

This is the book I've been awaiting for months, one to get quickly wrapped up in and dread finishing.

Quite the page turner, a complex and clever story and yet not too convoluted that I had to keep going back to find out who was who.

Louise Millar is my current favourite author and I'm just sorry that having read her latest so quickly, it's going to be a while till I can read her next thriller, ideally a sequel.
