This story continues to impress me; with some great humor, well paced action, and some genuine mystery added in for good measure, this volume is definitely all about later plots. While the first volume, Family Matters, set up the core characters for Invincible, this volume is clearly set up as starting points for future story lines, so while it doesn't actually seem like much happens here, it just makes me want to continue reading so I can see how all these plot threads play out. The inclusion of different artists working on the introduction of additional characters to the book was a nice touch too, helping each character stand out a little while having the briefest of introductions. I think it's safe to say now that I don't like Robert Kirkman's storytelling. The Walking Dead left me cold (no pun intended), Outcast could have potential but not enough to keep me coming back for more, and this... Well, this is just bad. The pacing is wildly fast and sporadic, to the point that I felt I had missed huge chunks of story; none of the characters are all that fleshed out; Haunt feels like the love child of 90s Spawn and Venom. Basically, what this really feels like to me is all show more the terrible aspects of McFarlane's writing and character development with Kirkman valiantly trying to shine it up a bit, and it does not work. Needless to say, I will not be pursuing this series further, nor much else by Kirkman. show less

It's a "What If?" scenario for The Walking Dead wherein creator Robert Kirkman conjectures about how things would unravel if aliens had triggered the zombie apocalypse as part of their invasion plans. Various cast members of the series are resurrected and given super powers to fight back in over-the-top, super-gory fashion.

It wants to be dumb fun, but leans too heavily into the dumb.

Junk gets serious, and a vicious fight ends in death. I love when superheroes/superpowers meet morals & ethics. It’s always fun. Of course, now Mark has two women in love with him to deal with as well. What’s a guy to do? *eye roll* Also, I feel really bad for the mom. She’s been long-suffering for a while now. Her husband wasn’t who she thought he was and he almost killed their son. He leaves and doesn’t care about her anymore (so he says). She feels lonely and turns to drinking. show more She decides to get her life back together and pursue a career. Her son pops up with his step-brother, from the man who left her, and kind of hints for her to take care of him. She gets attached to said baby and then a villain bent on revenge, beats the snot outta her. I want to see some happy moments for her. show less
