Too much sex

This could have been a good story. But it needs to have more information on the world. Plot line was a little thin and every thing solved in the Last few pages and felt really rushed. There was very little character building. I will not be reading anything else from this author.

Question reality

I was not as happy with this book as some of his others. For all the talk of magic and hacking reality, there was very little actually done. The whole thing seemed a little under-cooked.

Better than it seems

The novel ended pretty strong. But there were several scenes which were...gratuitous. Amusing, but not moving any plot points forward.

It started to feel like a lesbian porno written and directed by a guy...a teenager, more like.

The various plots were interesting and moved well. I just got a little bored with the constant sex talk.

Brisk

Everything moves at a solid pace. There isn't any lengthy introspection or monologuing, which is good, but I feel it also leaves something out of the story. It's very matter-of-fact. Maybe too clinical?

To be clear, I did like it. It is a pleasant read and doesn't get overly graphic in sexual situations. The mystery flows solidly and the police work is consistent and effective. There is just something missing...something that would make it more memorable.

I will still likely buy the next in the series, as it is clever in some ways. The writing is solid, the proofing is excellent, and the logical flow of the plot is not tangled by overt deus ex.… (more)
