Description

Sam Hall (or Jack Hall): Character in the ballad of the same name. The original may have been a Jack Hall who was hung in 1701. In the song, Sam is a chimney-sweep condemned to be hanged. He makes a gallows confession of sorts, ending each verse with a curse (typically "damn your/his/their eyes").
