- About My Library
- I started collecting books when I was 8 and never let any book go.
Therefore my library is a mixed bunch: adventure books (Blyton's Famous fives and secret seven when I was a child, Stevenson, London, Verne, Maurice Leblanc' Arsène Lupin and such when I was a teenager), fantasy and science fiction from teenage to now (Banks, Arnaud, Reynolds, Asimov, Tolkien, Guieu, Niven, Clarke, Pratchett... and a whole bunch of others) and a mix of other (Cronin, Pierre Benoît, London's social works, Christie, King, Zola, Grisham...) as caught my fancy. I also have dozens of books on various subjects (hand craft, military strategy, survival, plants and herbs, cooking, minerals, religion philosophy and religious studies...). I also like to collect old teaching books in history, geography, literature, moral study, mathematics and science. I have also a few hundred mangas and bande-dessinée. Also I'm a hoarder, so I tend to want to have all the books of a series, of an author or a publication of an author (as an example I aim to have all Jules Vernes's and Pierre Benoît books in duplicate).
So my library is a mess without any logic beyond: I like it or liked it once upon a time, but it's mine and my life work and an image of me and a collection of memories of my past (I bought this one with my father, this one when I was 10, this one with this friend, this one when I was heartbroken, this one was offered to me when I was sick in third grade...)
I still often re-read favorites and while reading it, reminisce the times past when I read it first...
In the past few years I started reading old books from Gutenberg website, so my library's growing rate has slowed considerably with only a few dozen additions per year instead of a dozen a month... - About Me
