A while back there was a long thread in which many things were discussed. In this thread, Tim suggested "For me to provide a link on each work that: (a) recalculates edition counts, (b) recalculates title and author based on a."
Now that we've got an "Admin options" on the work page, how about adding a couple more functions?

Yes. This would be helpful.
However, I think it would also be good if there were an automatic script to recalculate works when book records are edited, at least for works with very few owners.

Would love that. Recalculating works for every new record might be a bit hard on the system though.

"Recalculate covers" - right hand column on work page.

Ah, thank you both, I'd been looking on the left; in my head the left on work pages is "things to do" (edit, change cover, see details), the right is "things to look at" (ratings, covers), and I hadn't even looked over there.

I wasn't aware of this. Good feature.
Could tags be recalculated as well? I don't know if this still happens with the new combination system, but possibly as a result of imperfections in the old system, tag pages can:
* be wrong about how many times a tag (in any of its versions) is used
* be wrong about how many people use a tag (in any of its versions)
* fail to show all combined versions of a tag
* show a misspelled or rarely-used version as the "main" tag (which shows up not only on the tag page, but in tag clouds as well, increasing the ugliness and inelegance in the universe)
Edited to add: All fixed now.

3> Perhaps we could have a script that runs once a week/every other week/once a month that does the recalculate. That way it doesn't strain the system daily.
Or if we look at it, we get an option to recalculate now. (Feels like an Excel function.)

>3 Nicole_VanK:
My thought was that errors typically occur with works that have only one or perhaps a very small number (2-5?) owners. For more popular books the work data is based on a larger and more stable set of book records and changes are only likely with combination not with book record editing.
A routine that only recalculated very small works might be less onerous. Or not. What do I know? I'm no programmer.

I saw the recalculate covers the other day. What does it do ? I wasn't on the long thread where it was discussed ?
What does recalculate covers mean ?
