Do you guys know of anywhere other than swaptree where I would be able to swap DVDs? I am going through a lot of my things, (moving, yay!), and have a bunch of titles I just don't care to keep. I can't trade these on bookmooch, can I?

Thanks for your help!

SwapaDVD.com, which is affiliated with PaperBackSwap (unfortunately US only). I'm on that (and their SwapaCD site too). What titles? :)

Oct 7, 2010, 3:13 pm

Ah, okay. I was sort of hoping that I could "swap" the DVDs for books. Do points carry over between the sites?

I don't know all of the titles off of the top of my head, but they're a lot of films from around five years ago. ("The Island", "A History of Violence", "Marie Antoinette", etc.)

Oct 7, 2010, 3:27 pm

Yes, on SaDVD you can get rid of your DVDs and then transfer the credits to your PBS account to spend on books. I mostly send books, so we transfer PBS credits over to get DVDs. It works for us.

5Bcteagirl
Oct 7, 2010, 4:01 pm

Would it be kosher for you to post the titles here in exchange for smooches? Only problem is it would bring your ratio down eventually, but if you have sent out lots of books it might not be a problem.

I would like that too!

Well, if any of you guys are interested, here's the list!

Movies:

"American Psycho"
"The Ballad of Jack and Rose"
"The Boondock Saints"
"Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason"
"Crash"
"Gangs of New York"
"A History of Violence" (Blockbuster)
"The Island" (Blockbuster)
"Kill Bill: Volume 1" (Blockbuster)
"Kill Bill: Volume 2" (Blockbuster)
"The Libertine"
"Marie Antoinette" (Blockbuster)
"Million Dollar Baby" (Blockbuster)
"Pretty Woman"
"Saved" (Blockbuster)
"Stealing Beauty"
"Velvet Goldmine"
"White Oleander"

Television:

"Gormenghast"
"Roswell: Season 1"
"Roswell: Season 2"
"Roswell: Season 3"

Those labeled "Blockbuster" were purchased at Blockbuster and don't have booklets or anything, (but do have cover art). Also, for the Roswell DVDs, as they are between five and six discs each, would you guys be cool with treating them as a double mooch? (Should anyone want them, of course.)

Does it seem fair to list them manually so as to have a sort of record of them in case they go lost or something else should happen?

9highdesertlady
Edited: Oct 8, 2010, 1:11 am

E, I would love Pretty Woman and Marie Antoinette!

Up to you on how you would like to proceed. I don't want you to get in trouble over it, though. If you do, could you reserve them for me? I am tc53591 on BM and I need to lower my ratio again. ;-/

10RidgewayGirl
Oct 8, 2010, 7:23 am

I'd love Gormenghast!

I would suggest adding them to your inventory as they are requested as "private mooch 1" or "LT mooch 4" and reserving it for the requestor.

11SmangosBubbles
Oct 8, 2010, 8:00 am

I would love The Boondock Saints, but can offer no tips on how to proceed, though.

12readingwithtea
Oct 8, 2010, 8:09 am

I agree with RidgewayGirl on the methodology, although I wouldn't want you to get in trouble!

Would this be open to international use (I'm in the UK and have some titles I would like to swap as well...) - we have multi-region players.

13infiniteletters
Oct 8, 2010, 9:43 am

unicornemily on bookmooch might like the Roswell DVDs (if she doesn't already have them). As far as I know, she doesn't have a LT account, but you could email her.

Oh, awesome, I'm so glad you guys are interested! I have to run to work now, but I will list them on Bookmooch tonight!

18orangewords
Oct 8, 2010, 12:06 pm

I have an email out to Mark to see if it's okay for me to use bookmooch to list them.

Additionally, these are all region one DVDs, and I am open to sending internationally if people are interested.

And, finally, I also have a copy of "Me Without You" to offer.

19Bcteagirl
Edited: Oct 8, 2010, 12:21 pm

As mentioned, It is my understanding that you can't list them since they are not books. You would be exchanging them for Smooches not having them in your inventory. The question of whether you can list DVDs has come up before, and the answer has been no. Audio books yes, dvds and videos no.

20rainbowgirl28

I'd love Roswell Season 1 if the other person falls through for some reason.

21orangewords
Edited: Oct 12, 2010, 2:33 pm

Okay, I believe I have contacted everyone who expressed interest in specific DVDs. All should be set! If you didn't get an email from me, (and you were the first to request something), let me know.

And, finally, here is the revised list, in case anyone wants anything that's left before I donate the rest.

Movies:

"American Psycho"
"The Ballad of Jack and Rose"
"Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason"
"Crash"
"Gangs of New York"
"A History of Violence" (Blockbuster)
"The Island" (Blockbuster)
"The Libertine"
"Me Without You"
"Million Dollar Baby" (Blockbuster)
"Stealing Beauty"
"Velvet Goldmine"
"White Oleander"

Libertine was very... weird. Very, very weird. But I thought it was well done.

It's worth watching if you have a high squick tolerance or are interested in that historical time period. Or if you want to kill any romantic desire you have for Depp.

This is an awesome thread. And I've got two ex-Blockbuster DVDs that I would love to give away:

The 40-Year Old Virgin (with Steve Carrell and Seth Rogen)

and

Suburban Girl (with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alec Baldwin).

They're both in great condition, with no Blockbuster stickers anywhere except for the DVDs themselves.

Okay, I know this is a really really really long shot, but I might as well put it out there: If anyone has a copy of Child of Rage (tv-movie with Ashley Peldon and Mel Harris) on dvd (or vhs), I'll gladly give lots of extra points for it.

I have a bunch of DVDs I'd like to move: 1 smooch for Canada, 2 smooches for the US and three smooches for other places (although they are all Region 1 DVDs).

Third season of Damages - never opened
Freedom Writers (my inlaws name written on it in masking tape)
Hurt Locker (never watched)
stick it
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
The Coal Miners daughter (this one doesn't have a case so I've been storing it with stick it but I'll find one for it to mail)

I've got more stuff for you guys! 1 smooch per disc for the USA, Canada or Mexico, and 2 smooches for everywhere else.

Constantine (From Blockbuster)
Empire Records
Mrs. Henderson Presents (From Blockbuster)

These DVDs will be available for about a week, (I'll say until the 23rd of July), and then I'm going to be donating them locally.
