For the last half hour or more, I haven't been able to add any books. The page freezes and "Error on page" displays at the bottom url directional thingy (the bar that is not part of the page, but shows progress of the next page coming up.)

I've tried by title, isbn, and wishlisting from a work page.

Confirming this on Windows XP Professional, IE7.

Works fine for me XP3, IE8 - Overcat and amazon

what source are you using?

I'm using Amazon.

I see that someone had the same issue sporadically yesterday.

I tried with Overcat - didn't work.

Just tried again with Library of Congress. No results and saw "Done, but with errors on the page".

CLIO, ILCSO and Amazon.com all returned "error on page".

I've tried all modes of search. When I hold the cursor over the Search button, the message below reads

javascript:LibraryThing.addbooks.search('response_search_beta.php', null);

It reads that even when the box is empty, so I'm thinking the search button is non-functioning.

Has anyone tried adding manually yet?

You can add manually. What it's not doing is searching. Since you don't need to search a datasource when you add manually, that still works.

Here's hoping someone looks up from the fun new Search feature and addresses the null Search button on the Add books page.

My stack of books to enter will wait until tomorrow, I suppose.

Is anyone having this problem?

If so, what system are you on?

Windows XP

eta: professional. Windows XP Professional.

Anyone? Closing...

Can anyone who was actually having the problem before confirm that's it's not still occuring? I would chime in on it, but I never added any books and hence ran into the problem.

I think it was IE8-specific. But I'm not sure.

I am manually adding Boy Scout books. I have no problems until I try to add another one (with a different title) with the same author. The Canada General Council of The Boy Scouts Association.
It will come up saying I have a duplicate. The first entered was a camp fire song book, the next two were a rule book, then a hand book.
If I go to use the main page to enter in the first & last sentence, the campfire one is there along with said title.
I realize that you are having 'a buggy' day and it isn't a problem, I can wait until things get sorted out. Just thought you might like to know as it may be happening to more than just me. It probably isn't the best of days to be entering books.

I never had the problem, and I did add a book to test it. (FF, so I can't speak to the IE8-specific issue.)

I use FF

Works on Mac OSX, with Firefox. Will check in the morning to see if it's still an issue with XP Professional/ IE 7.

18> My guess is that the titles are the same up until a colon and since LT ignores text after a colon it was auto-combined with a previous one. This isn't a bug and the solution is to go to the work page, click on the editions link in the left-hand column and separate the edition that doesn't belong.

Thanks again, jjwilson. Sorry about that. I will get the hang of this site.

So I was right?

25thebeadden
Nov 18, 2010, 12:34 am

I had already put the books with that publisher/author away so I didn't try it again. I will tomorrow when I get home. I just assumed you were right.

17> lilithcat was having failures with IE7 (msg 1,2), and readingfox succeeded with IE8 (msg 3), so I don't think that could be it. I just tried and successfully added with IE8 (on XP Pro), but as I didn't try when it apparently wasn't working I don't know if that means it's fixed or just that I didn't get the problem.

It worked. Thank you, so much! I really appreciate your help.

My pleasure. The duplicate book error message can be quite confusing if you aren't aware of what LibraryThing is doing behind the curtain.
