I'm curious as to how active this group is, since the current book listed up top is from April. I see that some people just read Heart of Darkness and I was wondering what you might be doing next.

Hi there. I have been wondering the same. I'm still interested in participating (if others are).

We are still doing books, although I myself am pretty slack at getting around to reading them.
Updating the group profile, well, we're not so great at that. :) I'll drop a line to teelgee (who started the group) and we'll get it updated. Thanks for the reminder!

wookiebender,
I'm watching this group. Haven't joined yet until I see if there will be another selection chosen. Then I would love to join. I seem to remember someone suggesting Conversation in the Cathedral but I may not be correct.

I have been falling behind on the books, but I am still interested in participating in this group. I am going to order Conversation in the Cathedral as I have not found it in a bookstore yet. And I still plan to read Heart of Darkness, which I already own. I kind of got stuck on Red and Black, which I am hoping to pick back up in the new year.

I've discovered great books through this group and intend to stay. I didn't participate in the last few because I'd already read them, but I recently finished Heart of Darkness and Conversations is on its way from the library.

The group has been pretty quiet of late but i'm still interested in participating - we've picked some really good books that i might not have read otherwise! I'm not sure why there hasn't been much discussion as the voting has been relatively healthy - recent winning books have had a dozen or so people voting for them.
And newcomers (welcome otterstamp and a4sando!) are probably put off by the lack of activity. Anyone know how to update our group page to include the recent books (Madame Bovary, The Red and the Black, Heart of Darkness, and Conversation in the Cathedral.
For newcomers and watchers, during October to December we're scheduled to read Heart of Darkness and Conversation in the Cathedral...but i haven't seen and threads on the latter (don't plan to read it myself).
Also, it's nearly time for the next two books to be nominated - let's pick a good one.

I'm ready to start voting on a couple of new ones.
I didn't vote for Conversation in the Cathedral and don't plan to read it either, but someone did and they should be willing to start a thread for the book.

teelgee is the only person who can edit the front page of the group, and she has not been very active on LibraryThing lately. But, yes, we could discuss Heart of Darkness and Conversation in the Cathedral at anybody's initiative. I have some other commitments or I'd leap right in. If I get through those commitments and there is nothing here I might start the latter; if the former surfaces from one of my piles of books I might start it too. But neither for sure or right away, so someone else can have at it if they are motivated.

I joined this group but then didn't have internet access for ages, I'd be interested in voting for some new books.

Mea culpa -- I've finally updated the group page. Showing Heart of Darkness as the current read. Many apologies for my slackiness -- I'll try to stay on top of it from now on!
When does the Llosa book start up?

The author reads LT group is reading Llosa for the year, so if we are readering Conversation's in the Cathedral and we know the dates I'll put a message up on that site and direct people this way. May get things moving again if more people are paticipating, or we could see if they are interested in a joint read-a-long?
