Won't start this until January 1st, though.....Chatter/Talk/Encouragement is more than welcome.

This Honky Tonk will soon be open for Business!!!

In the Honky Tonk Spirit...I give you my Muse:

Lucinda Williams writes songs that touch my heart..being a woman of my age, she writes about the stuff of life..the hard stuff, the sexy stuff, the stuff that ain't easy

This is only the beginning...wait until I start posting books!!!

"Used Book Store in a bar" is genius. Everyone talks about coffee shop bookstores, but a nice little pub, fireplace, bookshelves on all the walls.., There could be some good soup and stew on the menu, home made bread and scones. A few good, plain and yummy sandwiches..

Comfy chairs here and there and some tables.. a few small ones a few longer ones for groups.. Soft lighting and wifi... that would finish it off. What fun it would be!!

Okay, Kath...i'll give you that space...I think in English pubs it's called a "snuggery" for obvious reasons...(didn't i do this bit somewhere before???). But the Front Room has gotta have a good jukebox and a classy pool table...Of course the food will be divine...simple but divine...because we're all such ace cooks......Soup/Stew of the day....good sandwiches without a lot of Frou Frou.....an excellent choice of beers/wines/liquors....Hey, I can almost see it! But i don't want to wait tables...been there done that and I have an "iffy" back...I will tend bar...that's where you hear the good stories..

Oh, I am so ready! Thank you my peeps, you all just made my day

Your many friends here on the 75er's thread will enjoy hanging at Jude's Place - whatever you/she decide(s) to name it.

I'll be there, and might ask the owner to rustle up some good coffee or tea, since with the current medical restrictions on alcohol consumption I really must not drink booze. *Sniff*

A Buck Stove is a small wood burner that is inserted into a fireplace...they put a stainless steel pipe inside the chimney (cuts down on dreaded chimney fires!)...Fireplace inserts burn more efficiently than regular fireplaces..plus you can my an electric blower motor that disperses the heat...I love mine. After Dad died I had to buy a new blower but, I couldn't heat this downstairs without my wood burner...We cut vents into the living room walls..when I reverse the ceiling fan..the warm air circulates through the downstairs..making it more comfy..more cheaper than cranking the furnace..will post a link here shortly..

Some of the Buck Stoves are lovely..mine is a plain jane, though.....Function over Form.....

the closest thing that "looks like" mine is the Model 91...except that mine is Non-Catalytic (???)

My boyfriend has Gas Logs in his fireplace that do a bang up job for extra heat...but, so much depends on your fireplace..he had to do a lot of work on his before he could put the "logs" in..

Jude, you are a woman of many talents.

You know, I believe that we should have an outdoor spot at the pub.
A patio, with trees and benches and tables. Then people can bring their dog
if they like. We can put in a big chiminea for fires in winter and flowers in summer.

78jdthloue
Dec 20, 2010, 1:26 pm

As long as we are dreaming, Kath, we should Dream Large!

The patio idea reminds me of a place up around Akron where my brother/Sister in law had their rehearsal dinner....waaayyy back when..POOR RICHARD'S PUB it was called..and they had an outdoor brick patio.that looked pretty cool to my 13-year-old eyes....So yes...a patio we shall have...bring the dogs (and pooper scoopers) but, ahem, leave the kids at home!!

I am feeling cold and tired today...woke up early to do laundry and clean the kitchen..i am about done in...have to go grocery shopping tomorrow morning and vacuum the downstairs...clean the bathrooms..then i'm done for the week...except for cooking Christmas dinner...which will be simple this year since I am not expecting company...

It looks like Jude's Snuggery is THE place to be in 2011...and the days leading up to the big changeover.

I stay pretty snug in this big ol' house with a Buck Stove in the basement and both gas logs and a pellet stove on the main level. The upstairs gets all the heat that rises to the top. We're all set for winter with lots of wood, pellets, and gas.

Speaking of gas, I'm enjoying all the chatter here.

>84 Donna828:: "Donna, Donna, my Prima Donna......."

Oy, speaking of gas....actually I'm listening to a weird CD someone sent me and I hear strains of the above tune....yeah, it dates me...so what!

I just have the Buck Stove and my new Oil Furnace...the upstairs rooms are blocked off..except for the bathroom...the downstairs stays pretty cozy...except my bedroom which has three outside walls...but I have so many blankets on the bed that I don't care.

You all are making me antsy about the New Year...What if I can't deliver? What if I fall on my face? What if I forget how to read? What if I just shut up?

I always thought fedoras were men's fashion originally and later abducted by some fashion forward women.

102SqueakyChu
Edited: Dec 26, 2010, 11:54 pm

I got that information from wikipedia under "fedora":

The term fedora was in use as early as 1891. Originally a women's fashion into the 20th century, the fedora came into use in about 1919 as a men's middle-class clothing accessory.

Sorry - somehow I missed this whole thread til now and all the great fun!
I'll be on the clean-up crew of Jude's Snuggery til I've done enough penance!
Must have been those 3 Christmases I celebrated... nearly knocked me out!

OK... back in the swing! Happy New Year, Jude! :)

I spent this gloomy, rainy day on the couch...with a stuffed-up head. Hope it's "only" sinus trouble and not a cold! The temp got up to 59 here today...I seriously detest unseasonably warm weather this time of year...it usually portends bad things...

Anyway, I'm going back to Couchville....try to finish this book I've been reading for ages

Hope you all are in good shape after the night's revels...those who revelled.....

Later

I've been in Coptown all day. Auntie's needed me to call the POleece to pick her up twice! So now it's off to bed with her. She can't stay awake, but is complaining bitterly about going to bed. As soon as the aide is done in the bathroom, though, straight there.

I don't think it's a cold...because I'm not "achy" like a virus makes you feel...just stuffy head...can't breathe. Hopefully tomorrow it won't be as warm and I'll feel better..but, it was a good day to vegetate. Just call me Missy Turnip!

>121 msf59: No no no!!! I just vegetated yesterday....and Missy Slug...doesn't have a very classy ring to it. And I like turnips...preferably raw....shredded in coleslaw!

The head is not as stuffy this AM because the temp dropped.....but, I still feel extremely LAZY....ah, well..it's Sunday..perfect excuse!

My Grandma (dad's side) loved turnips...grew them in their little garden...but she would cook them to absolute MUSH.....Yurk!....Now, I'll cook them with potatoes...for Mashed...I love them roasted....like i said, in coleslaw ( not too much...just enough so you can taste the "bite")...and raw, on a veggie plate....with dip....

Yep, I loves my veggies

*ducks to catch slipping halo*

..........what do you mean, "a secret"...now everybody knows!

Hi Jude,
Was wondering about the "Missy Turnip" . Sorry. I just can't get past the smell of cooking turnips. But... I never tried them raw. Next time you make that slaw, let me know. I'll come have a taste. :? (That's my mouth thinking my brain just crashed!)

Relax...and have a good one!

>128 mckait: I should give you my recipes for Marinated Veggie Salad...i have two: one for Summer.....one for Fall/Winter...I'll see if they're online anywhere...I know the Summer one is

I don't the smell of boiling turnips either, Claudia...of all the smells from Grandma's kitchen..that one was the worst. That's why I boil them with potatoes!...now, roasting turnips don't reek as badly...and if you do carrots along with.....hmmmm

Been a frequent lurker but delurking to say Happy New Year and can't wait to see what books your 2011 thread brings :)

will there be a dart board in this Honky Tonk?

over by the jukebox and pool table maybe?

kara :)

Jan 3, 2011, 6:14 pm

Oh, Kara...another delurker! you are most welcome here..

When I start my new thread, it will be pretty pedestrian...book reviews and chat....this Honky Tonk pipe dream was just that...something to keep us all amused...Reality hasn't kicked in yet...but in a few days, who knows??

Spent today doing laundry, housework, etc. The furnace man came by this afternoon...i have a minor leak/drip inside my furnace..so he took the burner assembly apart...cleaned it all up..It wasn't a serious problem but I needed a little expertise..

Made vegetable soup this morning....enough for a few days...tomorrow I am hoping to get to the store to buy food for the Beasts.....have a good evening, all...i'm heading to the couch soon, hopefully to read
