B & N loaded free books on to my new Nook: Pride and Prejudice, Dracula, Little Women and a newly published sci fi/fantasy called God's War (touchstone is wrong, wrong, wrong). I feel very fortunate.

Man, good thing I just spotted this. I was just about to hit submit on "April's Abundant Accumulations." LOL

oh, excuse me...didn't mean to step on toes. I just wanted to put those free books on here before I forgot. Thanks, Clam, for all you do to keep us a happy camp.

Nope, no toes stepped on. I usually wait (or just forget) and am glad to see someone else starting these threads. Especially since I'm running out of suitable words! LOL

A friend sent me The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins; I got it in the inter-office mail today, so I'll read it this weekend.

Edited to correct the name of the book, thanks to clamairy. DUH There's a big price sticker over the last half of the word. All that's visible is HUN, and I **assumed** the rest.

#5 - I think you mean The Hunger Games. Haven't read it, but I've heard great things.

Edited to fix wonky touchstones.

My massage therapist loaned me all her Dexter books (Darkly Dreaming Dexter, etc.), so I've got a nice little pile of stuff to go through.

Just taken receipt of Images of the Seventh Day a superb collection of black & white photos from 1974 - 2009 by Michael Kenna. The book was produced to coincide with his exhibition last summer (May -July 2010). It's a work of art in it's own right.

Also picked up a copy of The Fellowship of Ghosts by Paul Watkins, it's all about his time climbing the mountains in Norway.

#5 I've read all three books in The Hunger Games series and I loved them. If you like dystopian stories with lots of action and a little romance you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

Wasn't gng to buy any book at all, when in the bookshop. I was just perusing new titles to see what to look out for next on my ereader.

I escaped with only

The bicycle book - by Bella Bathurst, of which I'm apparently the only owner on LT. It had a really compelling introduction, just perfectly describing the fun of casual cycling.

Raw Spirit - Iain Banks' first non-fiction book, involving his quest for a perfect dram.

play to kill
double comfort
city and city
all being continuation of series' I'm reading

And best of all my pre-order Deceiver turned up. Given that this is #11 in a series written in trilogies, I'm not sure from how far back to start reading. 11 books with the same characters is too much, but I've forgotten a lot of the backstory so I want to read some of the earlier ones.

#9 I very much enjoyed The Hunger Games, and am going to purchase the other 2 for my Kindle.

A few arrived in the mailbox today and I also went out and added a couple more:

Stalking the Angel by Robert Crais
The Gunslinger by Stephen King
Looking for Jake and Other Stories by China Mieville

and 3 titles by William Boyd

A Good Man in Africa
The Blue Afternoon
Brazzaville Beach

A Century of Detection came today; it's an ER book. I'll be glad to finish the mystery I'm reading so I can begin reading this.

Box from Amazon: Work Song for the next month's RL book group, Bountiful Containers for growing veggies and food in containers, not just flowers, and finally Zentangle Basics - a new art method that really appeals to me as I am a bit of a doodler. I love new books.

ETA: why aren't the touchstones working?

Yesterday, for my Kindle, I bought The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. I've never read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, although I watched the series on PBS several times, and enjoyed it. At any rate, I'm putting it next on my reading list--I think. :-)

I got the ER book The Evolution of Fantasy Role-Playing Games. Because, you know, I'm not at all a geek or anything :)

The other day I got two free books from a library from a discarded pile. The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley, and In the Days of the Comet by H. G. Wells. They had a pretty good selection of discarded books, but I only got those.

I rec'd from a used book store, listed on Amazon, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. My friend, who moved to France, and left me her dog...Buckwheat...., told me it was an excellent read. So, of course, I had to go buy it. The used book price was less than Kindle and Nook, so I got a dead tree copy. But I didn't buy it new!

Good catch DragonFreak, I love Robin McKinley's writing - I haven't read The Hero and the Crown, but it's on my wishlist. I've never heard of In the Days of the Comet, looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

Books in the mail today. I love, LOVE getting books in the mail :-D The Folio Society sent me: The Golem by Gustav Mayrink, The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro (I've been wanting to read it since I saw the movie) and a gorgeously illustrated book The Great Explorers edited by Robin Hanbury-Tenison. This will be a great one to dip into every once in awhile, it's divided into sections, The Oceans, The Land, Rivers, Polar Ice, Deserts, Life on Earth and New Frontiers, then sub-divided by the various explorers. Lovely.

On Monday, on my way to our little RL book group (all LTers), I carry a big box of books to trade in and earned $9 credit + 10% off with just three books! Carried the rest back to the car. With that fine bunch of discounts I was able to buy a new copy of The Elegance of the Hedgehog for just over $5. I was impressed and happy. Now I am hoping the book group will choose it as one of our next group of reads....

From the campus bookstore a few minutes ago:

The Road to Paris by Nikki Grimes (Coretta Scott King Award)
Hollywood Crows by Joseph Wambaugh
American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld

I didn't plan to acquire anything, but I took 3 boxes of books into the used bookstore and the Friends of the library, and came home with 3 books, less about $7. Good trade in my opinion.

Sword at Sunset by Rosemary Sutcliff
Predator by Patricia Cornwell
Point of Origin by Patricia Cornwell

All I did was look at Fool's Moon on Amazon. Then I bought it. Then I needed to buy enough to get the free shipping. So I bought the next two books as well.

hehehehe

It is amazing how those Amazonians can manipulate us, isn't it! And now I'm finding the gremlins at B&N who run The Nook are almost as good! I bought The Game of Thrones for my Nook last night. Started reading it right away even though I have a bunch of other books started. But I am smiling.

Went to the library to change books. There was a copy of Ancestors: in search of human origins on the sale shelf. It now has a good home. Jokes aside, it looks like the kind of book that would be good to share with Dayna.

#31 - I think I'd better get the second one handy. LOL (I bought all four at book sales over the last year and a half.) I've been putting off reading them because I know I won't be able to get a single thing done once I start. Plus, I want to savor them, and I know he writes/publishes them s-l--o-o-o-w-w-w-l-y.

The Angus and Robertson closest to home just shut (they're part of the Borders fiasco), but I grabbed a couple of books on its way out. I got a volume of Buffy novels, Dead in the Family and Victory of Eagles, and a book that a friend will like for less than $25! The normal price would have been $95.

I was able to get A Game of Thrones from BookMooch because I asked for it before the HBO series started, but now it's a no-hoper for the rest--will have to buy them or get them from the library.

Picked up my next book club book yesterday, Molokai, but first must finish The Name of the Wind, another good one.

Just got Gratitude: a Way of Life in the mail from Amazon this morning. Still waiting on the book I won from last month's ER batch, and just found out I won the one I requested from this batch. Got Visions, Trips, and Crowded Rooms earlier this week.

Buffy omnibuses 3 and 7, and Almost like being in love, plus Aldi had Jane Austen novels for $4, so I filled out my collection with Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey.
