Percy Jackson Debate!!!

1swimfreak14
Apr 7, 2011, 8:08 pm

Okay. So most people tell me that Percy Jackson is a kids series. Whatever!!! It's definitely one of my favorite series, and I'm fourteen. Anyway my favorite character in Percy Jackson is Annabeth, because I picture myself like her if I was a character in the books. I think that Grover is kind of a push over, but that's just me.
I saw the movie when it came out and I was really unimpressed. IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THE BOOK! Am I right?

2mrmcfluff
Apr 8, 2011, 6:03 pm

The movie was an embarrasement to the books!!
I literally hated Annabeth in the movies, but thought she was cool in the books.
But Grover is the bomb and would be awesome to have as your protector!! Unlike Annabeth I liked Grover better in the movie then in the books.

3swimfreak14
Apr 8, 2011, 7:35 pm

yeah grover was pretty cool in the movie, and i really didnt like annabeth in the movie. all the characters were way too old and the story was way messed up! my favorite book in the series is either The Lightning Thief or The Battle of the Labrynth

4mrmcfluff
Apr 8, 2011, 7:43 pm

I absolutelly loved the first one and no book in the rest of the series every really lived up to it. But I still read the entire series anyway!!

5swimfreak14
Apr 8, 2011, 7:47 pm

The first book was the book that really grabbed my attention. It was so funny!

6mrmcfluff
Apr 8, 2011, 9:01 pm

I read the first one like 3 times where I have only read the other ones once!!
How many times have all u guys read each book??

7swimfreak14
Apr 8, 2011, 10:31 pm

I've only read the second one twice, because I don't own it, but I've read the rest at least four times each

8Mariah7
Apr 10, 2011, 12:45 pm

i loved the series and i was 16 when i read it.
i liked the movie. i tend to rate them separately. the movie may not have been completely like the books but i thought it was good.

9swimfreak14
Apr 10, 2011, 1:38 pm

Yeah. I would have liked the movie more if I had not read the books first. As movies go, it was pretty good.

10mrmcfluff
Apr 10, 2011, 3:35 pm

Good point. Unfortunately I had read the books before I saw the movie so I had a pretty strong image as to how the characters acted and looked like.
But when I saw the movie I couldn't stop laughing!! To say that the director "was free with the material" would be a huge understatement!! Did anyone in the movie or on the set even read the lightning theif?!?!

11sarahy
Apr 10, 2011, 5:56 pm

i REALLY liked the first one, the last one was OK, but i didnt really like battle of the labyrinth. sorry to be a downer, but thats what i think. i havent seen the movie but my brother did and he said it stunk so im not interested....

12mrmcfluff
Apr 10, 2011, 6:05 pm

I absolutely hated the second one, because Grover is the bomb!!

Hello everyone!!!

Sorry for being late in this discussion...but can i just say, "I REALLY LOVE PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS SERIES." The movie can't even beat the books!!!

I am planning to read those two books, (my sister said it was great). I wish I could read those soon...

17sarahy
Sep 16, 2011, 4:25 pm

i liked lost hero better personally... haven't read the second one but i reaaaaallly wanna haha.

and can i just say why on earth would rick riordan start two new series at once? it just delays the release of new ones... anyone agree?

18OrientalCherry
Sep 16, 2011, 11:36 pm

He could pull it off. His books are bestsellers.

19sarahy
Sep 17, 2011, 4:08 pm

i know but it kind of irritated me...

20cara_amnell
Sep 30, 2011, 9:18 am

*butting in*....rick can have all his series fine. I just hope they'd all turn out equally awesome like the olympians series :)

lost hero...AMAZING! can't wait to read the next book
red pyramid...REALLY INTERESTING! way, way, better than its sequel in my opinion
throne of fire...a bit of a bore actually. I kept waiting for something big to happen. When it came, I was a little bit disappointed; partly because of the scene itself, and partly because I've worn out myself from waiting for it to happen.

21mrmcfluff

Isn't the new book coming out in like a week??

My eyebrows shot way up when I saw this topic. I can talk about Percy Jackson all day :D

Red Pyramid wasn't all that bad but it's definitely not my favorite. The main characters aren't all that memorable to me. Is it worth reading the sequel? Does it get better?

Lost Hero wowed me completely! After reading the book, I spent days hugging it to my chest and telling everyone about how amazing it is. Watching Piper and Leo grow in just one book was a great experience. However, I didn't like Jason all that much. He didn't really stand out in my mind, compared to the others, for some reason.

It's my policy to never watch the movie of a favorite book because I will hate it for the simple fact that it's not exactly the same as the book. I always feel like the movie versions are for people who have no time to read or don't like to read the book.

27Fob45
Oct 21, 2011, 10:17 am

The sequel to the red pyramid is WAY BETTER! i loved it! :D

Oct 21, 2011, 11:06 am

Oh really?! I'm glad because I really like the author. What was good about it?

29Fob45
Oct 21, 2011, 12:06 pm

The characters had way better stories behind them, it was funnier, the dialogue had more personality, there was more action, and it was a little bit more realistic.

30ErisofDiscord
Oct 21, 2011, 1:31 pm

The movie stunk. Nothing like the book, and the dialogue made me wince. Percy was a douche. Not like he is in the book. And Grover wasn't as hilarious as he was in the books.

31sarahy
Oct 22, 2011, 6:54 pm

i loovveddd the throne of fire i just read it!! looove looove loooooooved it! haha... and there's hope for sadie's romance! (lol)

i've heard the son of neptune is supposed to be hilarious... havent gotten my hands on a copy yet, but im borrowing a friend's when she's done with it!!

32Tavaresden
Oct 22, 2011, 7:43 pm

Eris: I bet I won't be able to watch even the first five minutes of the movie, if it's as you say xD What I love about the series was how there was a balance between hilarity and seriousness. But they always make things so much more serious in movies!

Sar: I have the book and I want to start it so bad but I have so many other books that I need to finish first since they'll be due soon >.

33sarahy
Oct 23, 2011, 5:26 pm

if you do, tell us all about it! well maybe not the spoilers, but....

34Mariah7
Oct 23, 2011, 10:33 pm

Im confused(once again). I have the Percy Jackson books 1-5(really enjoyed them). I thought it ended there. Is this a new series with different characters? or something.

35Tavaresden
Oct 23, 2011, 11:38 pm

Yes, and hopefully it'll never end! It is, in fact, a new series that starts 2-3 months after the first series and told in third person point of view. There are new main characters but with plenty of returning characters that we all know and love. I've only read the first book but it seems more serious than the first series but just as funny!

36OrientalCherry
Oct 24, 2011, 2:19 am

Yes, it really is:) Well, the good thing about the movie was that Logan Lerman played the role of Percy. He's soooo cute ♥

37Mariah7
Oct 24, 2011, 11:45 pm

I didn't like him so much in the second book. We can hear everyones opnion of him when you read it.

67magelet87
Edited: Dec 3, 2011, 1:48 pm

I've read all the Percy Jackson Books, plus the Heroes of Olympus books and I would have to say I like Percy much better in the HoO books. In my opinion, Percy got easier to be around as he grew up. I think that is the case with most real people.

I liked the HoO books better than the PJ ones. For one, I got to see more of my favorite character: Nico di Angelo. I also loved the new characters introduced. Frank was just plain awesome (my favorite character so far), Piper was the friend I always wished I had, Leo was hilarious, and Hazel was brave, loyal, and smart.

As for the book/movie debate: I loved the books better than the movie. Just to read about Annabeth calling Percy "Seaweed-brain" was priceless. I don't like how they changed basically everything about the books. But I did like Grover better in the movie. Less annoying (Sorry, for all those Grover fans out there).

I DO have a question about SoN, but it contains a spoiler. So, can anyone I can ask, who has read it, please send me a message so I know who you are. Thanks!

Same here, I've read all the PJ and HoO books!! But i disagree.... Percy Jackson is better than Heroes of Olympus in my opinion..... But I can't completely decide yet as there's only been 2 books of HoO.

In most cases, I prefer the books to the movies, and it's the same with Percy Jackson. I love the book, but the movie was a great disappointment for me.... the plot changed a lot and the characters are so different!!

I've also read SoN, so go ahead if you still have your question!!

I've grown bored for waiting for The Mark of Athena to come out, so I did a quick search on google and here's someone else's own version of it:

It's probably not gonna be as good as the actual book, but it's not bad...
