I love that song :) and it's perfect! lol.. Thanks LB :)

*ignoring Ape lad's mentor*

Stas.. lol, thanks .. but I was 19. But sometimes, if I look at him just right..
I still see the little auburn haird boy, with the curls just along his neck..

Hi jude!!!

Lynda, true, and I knew it would be that way.. but what I was using was so so bad!
It would hang and crash and the keyboard is wonky.. gak! Aside from the cover.. the part over the
keyboard that is.. being a little different, texture wise.. kinda rough, not smooth. It is fab!I will get used to the different feel...

calm :) glad you are here.. Welcome to all!

Morning Kath- Congrats on having the Mac back! You must be floating. So is the heat coming back your way. It looks like we are going to be stuck in the 90s all of next week. Can I call in, all week?

Hey! Wait a minute!
"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. "

Someone may be waiting for their birthday cards (w/money), or SS check, or acceptance into a college, or party invitation....

Sorry, Mark. You have a v important job to do!

Hi Kath... I am so happy for you and Mac. It sounds like a whole new relationship is blooming! :)

21alcottacre
Jul 16, 2011, 8:21 am

Yeah, but if I do not pay my electric bill I will be in deep trouble. The temps here are over 100. I have to get the mail if only for that one bill!

22mckait
Jul 16, 2011, 8:28 am

I pay my bills online. That is why I can be so cavalier about the mail being delivered :)

So you see the problem, with a computer that barely limped along.. it was not easy to
carry on. I have all of my bookmarks on Xmarks, and my email addys on Plaxo, but the
machine was hostile. So was I ! lol

Oh and as for all that gloom of night stuff.. I think it was recalled.. sort of like St Christopher..
or at least had *just kidding* added to the end.. at least, in some places!

23mckait

88. Altar of Eden by James Rollins

Not for the faint of heart, as the build up was more than a little but
graphic. A discover of a boat filled with genetically mutated animals
begins an adventure in the Louisiana Bayou . The investigative team
includes Lorna, a specialty veterinarian. Her brother Kyle plays a part,
as does Jack. A man from her hidden past.

While a few of the mutated animals are lost, many of them are saved
by this team and a few others. It is like an entire gang of MacGyver - like
individuals with a single focus.

This is a thriller without a doubt. It is also a bit of romance and some
politics, but just a smidge. I like that one of the major players is a woman.
I also like the inevitable ending was not so inevitable after all . 3.5 stars
recommended for thriller fans.

I did take dunkers out on the porch after the rain and during the

Jul 19, 2011, 10:07 am

Hi Cee.

Yeah.. I have to say that I am so not desperately hoping to get this job..
I just don't want it. But I need the money. So, the "uniform" is black pants, white tops and black sweaters
over or black shirt, whatever. I would have rather had the shampoo the head and sweep the floor job, to be honest with you. Do not want to work with Doctors again. gak.

I have located 2 pairs of black pants that sort of fit.
One pair that is too big. I need a black sweater or something if I get the job.

I do not have appropriate shoes .
sigh. I need sneakers. I need black flats. Maybe i will get black sneakers and hope for the best?
So anyway, I may shop for shoes after the interview.

I have been busy, walked Dunkers, ran to store and have hot sausage cooking.
Still no gas for the grill. No comment.

I am not grumpy , weary, just sort of weary. Not much sleep.. too hot.

91-Cee-
Jul 19, 2011, 10:52 am

Geeze, Kath.
That sounds dull and morbid...wearing all that black!
It's gonna take you a month or two of work to pay for the clothes you'll need.

This is not only "do they want me" as "does this job feel right for me".
Even part time jobs need to suit your needs.
Well, have fun with it anyway :)

92calm
Jul 19, 2011, 11:06 am

93mckait
Edited: Jul 19, 2011, 11:34 am

Maybe that's they key. Not minding.
The job itself will be dead easy. As I said,
I have done it before, just need to learn new equipment.

The people there are nice. ..
but I met them as a customer.
Still, I think they are nice. 99% very young.

If offered the job, I will take it. I think I am just
getting too used to being home and going out
to work again feels like no fun. Which of course it isn't but I like to
pay my own way.

so?

Im doing lotsa cart before horse here. For all I know they will hire a cute young thing
and I won't have to worry about it.

Jul 19, 2011, 4:02 pm

Cee.. funny.. One of the cute young things told me I had a nice smile :)
I almost fell off my chair.
lol rdear

I will be hired, pending three things.
I pass the drug test
I pass the background check
I pass muster with the goddess of all things for this area.

I think I am in.
I need a black jacket.
or a black sweater with a collar.

I bought a pair of black pants on the way to the interview..
He said I was the first person he ever interviewed to bring a book..
I said that if he kept me waiting, I wanted to put the time to good use...
so many books, so little time.

He asked me to describe myself in three words
I said
quiet
meticulous
a reader.

He asked me if this was my first choice of jobs. I told him that if B&N popped up next door
and was willing to hire me that I would be gone so fast he wouldn't see me for the smoke.

He said it would be about 15 hours a week, including every other Sunday.
so..

He asked what my pet peeves were the other times I had this position. I told him
that in any position, it was working with someone who did not do their fair share .. including their fair share of filing which everyone hates but must be done. He said Kelly was very particular about filing.. and I told him that I used to know the alphabet, but it has been a while. He said he hears it was like riding a bike. . . it comes back to you.

He told me the dress code. I asked if Texas succeeded from the union and took the corporate office with them, could I wear a lab coat instead? He said yes. He is lobbying for scrubs or a lab coat for the OD techs so.. fingers crossed.

97maggie1944
Jul 19, 2011, 4:09 pm

Sounds like the folks there are nice. I hope so. Money is just not worth working with "pills" (as in don't be a pill, don't know what it really means) and "fools". I am hoping this is a nice job for you.

Cold, and cloudy here today. I am wearing a sweatshirt for goodness sakes! Brrrrr

So when do you find out about the job, Ms. Johnny Cash?

Stephen, 'fraid so

Still feeling burned from the last one.

Good luck.

Well, Kath, it seems like you'll have a decent sort ot work for, but I sure understand about the shampoo the head and wash the floor--no thought process needed--and you might get a tip if you shampoo'd well.

Never mind; maybe you'll love getting out for a few hours.

good morning everyone :)

Lynda, that was my attitude for the interview. I did not lose
a seconds sleep over it, lol .

karen, fun with an undercurrent of steel.. but still, better, I hope.

Gail, thank you for understanding that. It would have been
a few more hours and a few less dollars, but I am so done.
I just want to not think. This one won't be bad, they do not do
any retinal photography, or BP's or anything much. Still..

Jude.. hot today, hotter tomorrow.
I skipped my walk this morning, as I could barely see through the haze and barely breathe..
thick air...ugh! Oh and thanks for the explanation. I was stumped.

mark.. all I can even think to say to you is to try to stay cool.

Hi Brit! How's the coffee :)
I have cut down to one cup in the morning, since Cory
is home. This way he and dan both get 2 cups. I am not always
happy with just one cup, but I am pretty sure that I will survive.

Cee! Have a good safe a and fun trip!
I hope the sun does what you want it too..
and your mom and the grandkids too!

Lynda.. it is getting hotter and hotter for the next few.
I am not pleased, but helpless to move that blasted air mass.. ugh!

I have to go and do the drug test thing
And believe me when I tell you that it is already a mess.
I was given wrong information regarding the address of the testing place
wrong phone number and told no appt needed. All incorrect.
I am not happy. It's a good thing I called for the hours..
and found all of this out.

115cameling
Jul 20, 2011, 10:54 am

Hmmm... i wonder if it's an omen that the drug testing thing almost threw your evaluation for a loop. I still can't get over the dress code though ...all black?! How is that friendly and welcoming to patients?

116jdthloue
Jul 20, 2011, 2:04 pm

The " all black" is odd, since most medical offices here require white, or light-colored uniforms/scrubs

oh well, maybe this Doctor is secretly Goth!!! (couldn't help myself on that one, sorry)

;-}

Jul 20, 2011, 2:41 pm

The shirts can be white..
otherwise, you dress like a table buss person
crazy

I agree though.. terrible dress code.
The people at the lab gave the wrong directions / info said it was on 7th and 11th
when it was on 7th and 12.
round the block three times .. said it was called one thing, but the sign on the building was
something else entirely.

people who work there not at all nice, helpful or anything but mean and glaring.

Terrible.

:(

Then I had to go with margies to get stuff for the fund raiser for my friend . we are trying to
raise money for her to have a new wheelchair van. Some of you have seen my posts on FB.
We are not having much luck with business donations.. and it was very hot to go beging, but we did, and we got a few things for the chinese auction, so that was good.

I am hot and grumpy now.
Dan was supposed to be off, but got called in.
Terrible again.

no no no jude! No more! You have done more than enough..
It will be fine.. Thank you for your donation! but no more :)
hugs

the big fundraiser is in august..
things will pick up then .. or we will go to plan B
No one has a pan B yet.. and that is the problem
the organizers are giving into ego and are having
tantrums if they are not getting
1 their way
2 recognition
3 recognition
4 their way

It is a mess. I am not one of the organizers thank the goddess..
I figured it would be this way and ran for the hills.

Hope things are better today than last night.

Read your post re: the lab. Believe me, I feel your pain on that one.

And it's always too bad when egos get in the way of good things; hard to stop that or to overcome it and get on with the work. Of course, one could simply use the Ray Gun of Verbal Contempt, but I've found that to be less than helpful, except as a temporary relief to one's feelings. Sighing on your behalf...

134mckait

Thanks Gail. You might be surprised to know that I have not only
kept from being one of the "inner circle" but I have actually, and painfully,
kept my ray gun of verbal contempt in my pocket, buttoned up. I am letting it happen without me.
I am doing my darnedest to stay away from toxic to me people, since escaping from Marcia. I
don't know if my restraint will continue on the day of the big event, I have to admit.

But Kath, don't you like the idea of LibraryThingVille? We could car pool to the Barnes and Noble and the library. Use each others computers to update our threads at any time when the home computer is in the hospital. So many advantages! But then.... there might be some difficulties having so many readers in the same neighborhood. Lawns left raggedy looking, cars unwashed, garbage not put out by the curb on "Stinky Truck Day" (my great niece's term for it).

Kath, sooo sorry about the headache. I've been reading without paying attention about barometric changes triggering massive headaches, and of course allergies contributing as well. I'm thinking ice pack on back of neck, very cold cloth (think stored in fridge) on forehead, and a medium-sized fan blowing directly on your over-heated person as ways to combat/deter the next attack. Of course the vodka would help too.

Maggie, loving the idea of LibraryThingVille. What a hoot that would be...but we couldn't have a city government as everyone would either be reading or talking about books. Hmm...maybe that wouldn't be bad after all.

Thanks all..
I am sure it will be fine.
And after the next two weeks, where I am scheduled for
three days each, it will be only one day.

The full time tech actually worked in the Ophthalmology practice where I worked
years ago.. briefly, and quite.. because they are so mean. That was 2011. She worked there
a few months ago, and it has not changed. Even the same OM .. but the doctor that was sleeping with her..( sometimes at work) divorced his wife, and married the OM. I hope his wife has found someone nicer.. I witnessed some pretty ugly screaming phone calls he made to her.

As you say Kara.. so many of them running loose.
Gail, I am glad you understand. I feel like a wimp.. but the anxiety is pretty high..
hopefully after day 1?

Hi Stas! hope your night was a good one

So right Joanne.. I will remember, and appreciate that!

90. Coffee with Thunderbolts by Marianne G Petrino 4 stars reviewed

To quote the author, an LT member and 75'er :

This novel sprang into existence in 2010 as a result of the National Novel Writing Month. NaNoWriMo is an annual event occurring in November, and you too can participate in this experience.

Marianne describes this book as an urban metaphysical novel. Although I would never have come up with that description on my own, I think it describes this story perfectly.

It's either new Starbucks-speak for cocaine-laced triple venti espresso with an energy drink chaser, or an indicator that the Christian god has decided caffeine is the Devil. Either way, your review is thumbs-uppable once again.

Good morning... !

I slept pretty well, but got up really early.

warm and humid and just enough rain and thunder to keep me from my walk..

Karen.. Still can't settle on a book. Maybe the Moon: A Novel by Armistead Maupin was on the floor in my bedroom this morning. Morgan was going at my bookshelves again. I am also looking at one on my nook, but nothing grabbed me. I watched Harry Potter movies again yesterday.

Thanks Roni and Terri .. I am sure it will be fine.

Linda, Lynda qebo and Karen, thanks for the good wishes.. fingers crossed..

Brit.. terrible to feel sick in this heat, I am sure.. I hope the MIL's house has a/c?

Cee.. adventures?! ye gods I hope not. yikes to mom and her instructive dinnertime musings..

I am sure that it will be okay. People there seem nice.. but after working with Voldemort and the Death Eaters for 8+ years, it is daunting. Also, it is such a different schedule. If I don't leave the house fist thing in the morning, it gets hard to go..

Nearly 80F and humid here already. They are at least predicting cool nights coming up. I need some
fresh air soon *faint*

As for Texas, I think it has simply fallen further into the pits of hell. Terrible weather there.

Well Gail, I was not so much surprised as relieved. I looked at the clock and it was 5 til 4
I was so ready to go home.

Hi Cee. So tired. Yeah... sounds a little violent to me, too ! yikes!
Glad they had fun and that you had some down time. I had none :P
It was so so busy!

The girl training me is so nice! But she is not a good teacher. She just kept throwing stuff at me to remember.. I was writing as fast as my little fingers would go..So much more than paperwork than any
of the other OD Tech jobs I have had.. PILES of paperwork.

The testing machines are absolutely different from the ones I used, which I knew they would be. When I used a fields machine, refractor and tonometry machine they were about the size of a Volkswagen .. and I was in charge. The new machines do everything and just use me to move them here and there a bit. Do not like. But, I have to get used to it..

I kept telling her that I would like to just focus learning the equipment today and worry about
sales challenges later ( grrr)

Anyway.. I did all of the afternoon patients..
I did not feel ready. I am supposed to have
6 days of training.. I pretty much expected that
today would be a day to observe and take notes.

Finally got a break at 2:45.. for 15 minutes.. and
managed to eat a couple of mandarin oranges..
I really needed them by that time.

I am tired, and my feet hurt. I need better shoes.

I lived. Wed. 12-5

Hi Kath - we both have to work on this whining thing.
Check my thread - I'm a Master Whiner too.

Today I'm gonna focus on the positive...
I guess that will be after I figure out what to do with the washing machine full of wet soapy clothes. :P
This is my red wash - I REALLY REALLY hope there's nothing in there that runs badly... I did throw in a new red pirate t-shirt I bought for Greg yesterday.

Hope you have a good catch-up day today.
That's kinda nice to work one day - have the next off!

I have a really tough time finding shoes that don't hurt..
A huge problem is an injury to the top of my right foot from my last job.
I was releasing the break on a wheel chair and apparently broke a bone on the top
of my foot. Finding hoes is nearly impossible.. so I wear Halflingers..
they are wonderful and V expensive. They are also clogs.
No clogs allowed. I have looked all over and tried many sorts of shoes and
nothing is working for me.

Any ideas? Good shoe ideas?

The injury is dead center the top pf my right foot.
I bought cheapo flats that will not do ..
my back and legs are killing me today..
I don't know where to go next :-/
