I thought I'd be a little different. Okay, a lot different.

I see The Da Vinci Code trashed alot here on LT. Not only do I love it, I got the (*insert squee-fan-girl*) illustrated version in hardcover. I have to admit the movie was awful.

I also see The Five People You Meet in Heaven trashed. I listened to it on audiobook and quite enjoyed it.

What books does "everyone" hate and you actually like/love?

It seems that The Tommyknockers is everyone's least favorite Stephen King book, but I quite liked it. I thought Gard 'ol Gard was a hoot and the whole dog as battery thing was creepy in the extreme.

I listened to The Da Vinci Code audio book and also enjoyed it. I bought a copy of the paperback in case I decide to read it again in the future.

I loved Thomas Mann's Tod in Venedig when we had to read it in school, and I was the only one out of 30 people. Same with Franz Kafka's Die Verwandlung.

I'm with you Morph, I also liked The Five People You Meet in Heaven and I usually don't like inspirational books too much.

I enjoyed the Da Vinci Code, it was not a great work but it was a (mostly) fast paced book of intrigue and puzzles to keep you wondering. I truely like Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series and it seems to be on the short end for a lot of people. I'm sure there are a couple others but I'm drawing a blank right now.

Good job, Morph. When I read the other thread, I was actually thinking that this one would work better for me.

Isn't it a weird experience when you read a book you absolutely love, come here and see that many people hate it? It irks me!

For me, it's The Alchemist. I am in love with this book as well as Paulo Coelho, who is probably my favorite author. I don't mind so much when people hate it, but people seem to be particularly vicious about this book. They seem to attack the readers of the work (those who love it) more than the work itself.

Let me add that I also adore The Catcher in the Rye and The Great Gatsby, which a lot of people on LT really seem to love to hate.

i like that you've got this going the other way, too :)

a lot of people seem to have strong negative feelings about heart of darkness. my stepdad and i were actually talking about this book a week or two ago, and he's in the hater camp. i actually love the book, i think the darkness is fantastic.

6> i'm with you on gatsby, i think that book's great fun. i am one of the catcher-haters though.

the chronicles of Thomas Covenant not universally trashed on LT but there are a significant number of dislikers.

The only other reviewer of On a darkling plain wasn't impressed. I rather enjoyed this and thought it caught the spirit well. Admittedly it is a somewhat obscure book.
