January EXPLODING BOMBS Progress report Page 2

We've all signed up because we felt we needed to read the books that were sitting on our shelves unloved and unread. Well, 2012 is right around the corner and I would like to see us all band together again to encourage each other to read those TBRs that, in my instance, grew because I acquired 111 new books but only read 65. (I'm apparently not making any headway since I'm gingerly inching through a minefield while the enemy continues to plant more mines mile after mile ahead of me.)

Let's see the new Tickers mushroom out to enormous proportions so that we can make a dent in the enemy of UNREAD BOOKS!

So, I'm setting up these tickers (password BOMBS) that everyone can add their goal to and then we can have a comprehensive goal for all of us. Wouldn't it be great if we could together read 1000 books, 1500 books, maybe even 2500 books that have been sitting on our shelves too long? IN 2011 WE READ NEARLY 1900 BOOKS OFF OUR OWN SHELVES! That's awesome! But can't we do better?

I just read BOMBS #4 for the month of January, Winter Blues: Seasonal Affective Disorder: What it is and How to Overcome it, by Norman E. Rosenthal

I updated the first ticker; the second already showed 68 books, which is what the first moved to when I added my book. Cheli, maybe you can sort it out.

Just read #5, 6, and 7! I have updated the ticker.

I am not sure what's the procedure for updating the percentage ticker. Are we supposed to do that one?

This is my first report other than in my own progress thread. I moved 4 books out. So I'm on target so far.

I'm with everyone else who is confused by the two tickers. Can we just adjust the first one re our own totals (still haven't added any to mine yet as I'm planning to do it on the last day of each month).

I made the assumption that a change in the first one would be reflected in the second. Have no idea why i assumed that.

Just finished my second book of the year; have added it to the first ticker. I am also unsure how to update the percentage ticker so am leaving it be.

3 Seven books already! You're doing well in getting through those books!

The two tickers should always match as to the number of BOMBS detonated. I periodically check to make sure that they are in sync and fix them if they're not. If you just want to do the top ticker, that's fine. I think at the start the percentage helps us to see that we really are making progress toward our huge goal. I also try to balance (it's the accountant in me) the count of everyone's monthly/year-to-date totals when I move us over to the new monthly thread. So be sure to either have your tickers up-to-date on the 31st or send me a message either PM or here on the thread letting me know your monthly total.

I don't think I will have any additional reads in before the end of the month..... exams already next week.

Jennifer, Exams are important and since you are already 10% toward your goal you shouldn't feel like you're abandoning your resolve, just a nice little break. And great start!

Strangely enough, I once again realize that the closer I get to my exams (only two more to go in my race on finals), I need more and more breaks, because I can't concentrate which leads to me actually reading more the closer I get. I guess it works different for everyone.

Just finished my #8, and have updated the ticker.

Have finished #5 for the month, and will update the ticker now.

I'm hoping to still read another one before the month is over . . .

Let's see: January 29th, I think I'm ready to post my January BOMBS report:

A total of 12 BOMBS detonated comprised of 5 actual books from my shelves and 7 Nook books. I will update the ticker right now.

I finished 4 books this month, and I'm in the middle of two more, both of which I should finish early in February. I've updated the group tickers with my stats.

I'm starting to gather the data for the end of month, so be sure that you let me know you success rate for January either with your ticker or on your thread. You'll be surprised.

I finished 5 BOMBs this month and updated the main ticker, but not the percentages ticker.

I finished only 2 BOMBS in January.

Just finished my fourth one and updated my ticker. Is that all I have to do or do you need me to add to the first total ticker?

Hi! I just blew through my 6th for this challenge -- Donna Leon's Death at La Fenice. I may squeeze one more short one in before the end of the month. We shall see. . . . Updated the first ticker, and brought the 2nd up to match it. (Hope that's OK, Cheli.)

I've been tallying up everyone's ticker totals and have updated the tickers with everyone's numbers (so if you were waiting for the end of the month, I beat you to it.)

We are ahead of schedule! With 3322 enlistments, on average each month we would need to detonate 277 BOMBS and we're past that point with 312!

Cyderry, could you please correct my total for January? I read nine books this month, rather than the seven you've counted - knocked off two in the last three days of the month.

I know I've almost finished my annual goal, but I wanted a small target rather than a big one. I'll just contribute to the group goal once I've finished my tenth bomb.

Cheli: I finished 3 books in January toward my goal of 25. I updated the ticker when I finished each book.

I actaully finished only 1 book off, because my goal is to read 20 more books than I add to it. I have added one book to the TBR and read two off the TBR, so I end up with one better *sigh* I have done nothing to the ticker

Sorry to be late but I read 4 in January and have updated both mine and the group ticker. The reading stalled as my youngest daughter had her 1st baby and I have been somewhat busy and distracted.

I removed four books from my shelves for January. That's what I'm counting here, read or not--it's the removal that's the challenge for me. My record is here. I haven't touched any group tickers.

I just now put my thread up, but I did read 4 books in January toward my goal of 25. I wasn't sure what to do about the tickers, so I haven't done anything.

I read 3 in January. Tickers updated.

billiejean - click on each ticker (password is bombs) and then click on Add. Type in the number of books you read, then Ok and then Save. The ticker will then update. Don't worry about the % one it's set up so that you just need to add your number of books the ticker will work out the %.

OK, I added my books, but I am not sure that my totals are included in the ticker yet. Thanks for the help with the ticker. It was easy (which is lucky since I am not much good at computers!).

By totals, I meant my overall goal of 25.

Just finished my third BOMBS for the year. This isn't going as quickly as I had hoped. Library books keep calling out to me.

My ticker on page 1, post 104 has been updated.

One more bomb...detonated. Ticker updated. One more book to go. Think I can meet my goal? I'm not sure. I'm 19 for 20 at this time.

My last bomb detonated right now...and I'm currently 20 for 20. I made my challenge!
