I just finished Discovery of Witches and really enjoyed it! The sequel comes out in July so I'm eagerly anticipating it!

I also started The Informationist which is interesting so far but I'm not certain it's the book I'm in the mood for right now so I may start something else later today.

I've (finally) started my Game of Thrones reread. I'd been meaning to for ages but I'm only now getting around to it.

It must be ASOIF month, because I'm reading A Storm of Swords.

I'm a quarter of an inch from finishing Inheritance. This has been a long rough read. I'll get into a section that's well written, then into a section that feels like "blah, blah, blah". Now I'm in the last section that wraps up all the loose ends.

I started Matched a couple of days ago. One of the girls I pick up for church was raving about the book. I'm about half way through it so far.

Read two very good books for my two book clubs: Iron House and Zeitoun. Looking forward to discusing them next week. Right now I've just started Uncivil Seasons by local guy Michael Malone.

I finished The Marriage Plot this afternoon--WOW. Amazing, beautiful book. The plot and characters were believable, the descriptions vivid, the writing intelligent yet fluid. And the ending was perfect: one of the best I've ever read, both in literary execution and my satisfaction. Often when I finish books I've loved as much as I did this one, I have a hard time moving on to something new. But The Marriage Plot was so well-ended that I'm not left wanting more, or with lingering questions.

That said, I'm not sure what my next fiction read will be. For tonight, I've been reading more of Jeanette Winterson's memoir, Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?, which I started in January. It's very good, but not a quick read, as the realities shared are hard. But Winterson is a masterful writer, and even the sadness is made engaging in her words.

I'm going to get Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy from the library today! I've been requesting that book for ages. Hopefully it will be good.

I decided to take a break from intense reads and started something light and funny: Faith Bass Darling's Last Garage Sale. So far it's enjoyable!

13---> Mr. Island beneath the sea is a historical drama about a slave in 18th century Hispaniola and later Louisiana. Its a very interesting read. I've been unable to finish it because of time constraints. I like Isabel Allende, I've been reading her books since I was a child. I usually avoid this sort of book, but its a book club read, so there it is. I find that my life is miserable and depressing enough, I don't need to read about someone else's miserable and depressing life because I read to escape my miserable and depressing life. The characters, I find, are deeply, deeply flawed. It's extremely disturbing to me how little some of us changed deep inside, since those barbaric times (have you seen the news lately?). Just about every male is a cruel, sadistic, perverted, twisted psychopathic bigot, and the females, except for a few of the main characters, are helpless, witless, useless, hapless and vapid. This book kind of makes me ashamed of the human race. I think that the only reason some of us don't revert to the anarchy of those times is social convention, the legal system and 4G camera phones.

Next book club read? Buddha in the attic.

I'm also working on Criss Cross for fun, and Prehospital Trauma Life Support because I'm teaching First Aid on my (laugh) spare time.

OOOOOOH and good/cool news, SOMEONE IS GIVING ME A BUNCH OF BOOKS!! IN ENGLISH!!!!! EEEEEEEE!! All I have to do is excavate them from the person's closet and they are mine!! Time to whip out my N95 industrial mask and my asthma inhaler. I'm so happy!! Ohhhhhh and she's a Doctor Who fan!! Another Who fan on this island!! Who would have thought????!!! Maybe there are more.....!

I am reading a book called Wonder by R. J. Palacio. Our media specialist so loved this book and believed in its message that she bought a copy for every teacher in the school out of her own pocket. So far it is very good!

I just finished Theater Shoes by Noel Streatfeild, which I liked; and The Storm Makers by Jennifer E. Smith, which I didn't care for. Now I'm listening to Listening for Lions by Gloria Whelan (that sounds redundant, doesn't it?) and reading All Men of Genius by Lev AC Rosen. I've only just started the latter (though it definitely seems promising), but I'm about halfway through Listening for Lions and really enjoying it.

I'm readiing Bloodline and The dead and the gone

I finished Faith Bass Darling's Last Garage Sale Sunday afternoon, and was surprised that it wasn't as surface/light as I'd anticipated. Touched on grief, mother-daughter relationships, racism, and faith with greater poignancy than I'd've guessed given the title, cover image and blurb. However, there was enough humor and absurdity to keep it on the lighter side, and it fulfilled what I wanted.

I've now moved onto Divergent, which I'm enjoying so far. It's a quick read, so I anticipate finishing it this week or not far into the weekend. Makes me want to read The Hunger Games again...

I'm also reading Academically Adrift with a colleague at work, and The Happiness Project in the mornings.

Feast for Crows. I have to say I'm really glad I decided to wait until I could reread before starting Dance with Dragons. There's some pretty important stuff that I had completely forgotten and I'm sure will play a big part when I finally get there!

Last night I finished All Men of Genius, which was great, and Caddy's World, a nice addition to one of my favorite children's book series. This morning I read The One and Only Ivan, a story about a gorilla who lives in a shopping mall -- a tear-jerker, but well-written and with a happy ending. And this afternoon I read The (Not Quite) Perfect Boyfriend which was, as one might expect, pretty fluffy -- but fun.

I finished A Feast for Crows yesterday and I loved it (though I missed reading chapters from the POV of some of my favorite characters). Now I have started reading A Dance with Dragons!!

Yesterday my class got a "reward" movie. Instead of a movie I showed them the pirate episode from Doctor Who: "Curse of the Black Spot." They loved it, and today they had all colored a black spot on their hand with marker!

About halfway thru The Red Pyramid; the countdown has begun for the last book in the trilogy, so I need to finish it and get to book #2 (Throne of Fire). The Serpent's Shadow is to be released May 1.
