I thought I remembered us starting one of these threads already but cant find it, so obv not...
I know there are at least a couple of us that volunteer helping rescue cats & I thought it'd be nice to have a thread to share the pics we take :) I know we have the Gallery as well, but I like the idea of a thread - hope no-one minds!
To get us started, this is the magnificent Tang:

Isnt he a gorgeous lil lion man!!! He's quite a shy boy as he's only just figuring out that humans aren't so bad, he was living in a park being fed over a fence, so he's been well fed his whole life but had very little human contact...
This is Tang's sister Pepsi who is even more unsure of us humans than Tang is:

Tang & Pepsi have gone to a foster carer's house for a while to be socialized before they're put up for adoption, but once they're ready I'm sure they'll find homes in no time :)
This is Joey:

He found himself a home yesterday :)
This is Wombie:

Doesnt she have impressive whiskers!
& this is Peanut:

Hope you all like the pics - & please share pics you have of rescue cats & kittens :)

Love them! It's a good thing I don't go to the shelter very often because I would want to bring every baby home! Can't resist...

Our local humane society has over 200 cats and kittens up for adoption right now. They've put out the word that they are at capacity and need adoptions. You have no idea how badly I want to go and pick out another cat. Especially as they have some mature siamese cats there (my weakness...).
I may just go instead and drop off food and sponsor an adoption so someone else can adopt a pet for free.

>4 Mareofthesea: Mareofthesea You are AWESOME! My best pets have been rescues. Currently I have one dog and two cats, rescues. Last week, my dearly beloved dog-friend of 13 yrs passed away. She was 2 yrs old when I adopted her and I believe she had been abused by her first owner. At least she had 13 good years.

I want to adopt them all! (well, all the ones at my local humane society) Stupid rental regulations.

Hi Group,
I have noticed that "Seanie" & "Fuzzie" and a few of the other usual suspects have been rather active re. putting up "pretty pics" ofCATS Our beloved Cats. Even as I write this, Lizzy is sitting on my knee and 'editing' this post.
Well I was wondering (hi. lilithcat) if all the pictures of "loaf", "bellyup", "sitting on" etc. etc. might be able to be placed/put/shown err. whatever, in one standing thread?
And by the way I want some of the more "Artistic" piccys (another thread) to be posted on our group gallery.
And an Idea, which I am reasonably sure was Not implanted in my head by Lizzy, NOT sure about MAX though is Kitten (say 0 - 12 weeks) piccies!
Everyone luvs kittens.
Your Cat nut,
Guido.
PS. I guess that kittens can be allowed to be up to...
well really any age your kitty is today! (18+ for Lizzy)
But since I doubt that I will ever get a "kitten" in my life again", ( I must outlive my cats, else how do I know how they will be looked after?) I do want to see many kitten pics. on this group.

My internet provider has set up a camcorder in the playpen of our local Cat Haven and made it 'freezone'.
The Haven has noticed a huge increase in donations and there are currently no kittens available although someone follows up all advertisements for free kittens in the newspapers and goes and collects the kittens.
They are all sterilised, microchipped and put up for adoption.

It's not my intention to offend anyone, but the Humane Society in my town, Huntsville AL, is running a calendar contest. Anyone can post a picture of their pet and the ones who get the most votes will be in the calendar. You vote by donating a dollar for each vote. I have no dog in this race (pun intended!), but I thought some of you might want to post your own photos and others might like to look at the 140+ entries and maybe some might even like to donate!

Guido or Lizzy wrote Well I was wondering (hi. lilithcat) if all the pictures of "loaf", "bellyup", "sitting on" etc. etc. might be able to be placed/put/shown err. whatever, in one standing thread?
Why?
The problem with having one thread with all the pictures is that it takes FOREVER to load. I stopped reading the "LOL" thread for that very reason.
And I don't have an old computer...too many images in one thread really slow things down.
Just my 2 cents' worth. :)

Hello #10 & #11,
I tried to follow your link, dkhiggin, but it seems to be Broken. And by the way, any "requests" for monies (for a good cause, if not rammed down our throats) is acceptible. :-)
Fuzzi, I have 'cable at home' and have never noticed speed issues. But that dosn't mean it dosn't not affect others.
I guess that what I really wanted was some sort of 'umbrella' type of grouping where I could view ALL the pretty piccies in one place.
Guido.

I keep visiting this thread because i cannot get enough of Tang.. he is sooooo beautiful! Fuzzi what great news that all kitties are adopted. Guido you should save the ones you like to your computer and make yourself a slideshow, that would solve your problem...
14anna_in_pdx
Ps have to whine here as i have done elsewhere, am in the hospital with broken ankle and miss my cats! I should be home by tomorrow though. I am so grateful for my ereader and hospital wi fi...
15Betty30554
Being technologically challenged, all I know is that my computer comes on when I push the button. But lately, I have been working a lot of overtime, so checking small threads seems quicker and I'm able to keep up with all the wonderful kitties.
My two finicky felines are getting a bit peeved with me because I still haven't gotten their pics up, so I will probably assign that task to my teenager (she understands computers much better than I).

I'm on DSL: cable would cost me TWICE what I pay now, and the only time I notice the difference is when there are a lot of graphics to load.

Dear Anna,
I hope that that "ankle" wasn't due to a CAT? attack.
I do know that Max, did try to trip me up recently, at dusk, and then proceeded to attack my "ankles"...:-)
I did shout out "...I Feed you, you bugger, and I know where you live...".
Luv,
Guido.

Guido47, the link works fine for me, but I added the www part, so maybe that will fix it for you? There are some really cut pix up already and I think there are over 180 entries now.

Thanks #19, works now.
And err. #20, I was thinking of going into "Witness Protection" BUT I do know that CATS have their 'snouts'.
I recon. there is a conspiracy between Rats and our Masters.

Gracie is beautiful!
I did another photoshoot yesterday - & had a new volunteer who's done professional photography helping me get more out of my camera :) It was really interesting, she usually shoots with film rather than digital (I didn’t realise people still did that!) & she uses Nikkon & Olympus rather than Canon so she had a bit of trouble working out the settings she wanted on my camera & I’m still not 100% sure why she did what she did, but we got some great shots & my ‘hit rate’ was much higher than usual as far as usable pics goes :)
Anyway, here are our shots from Saturday :)
This is Razor:

He’s a bit of a sad story, him & his littermates were very timid, bordering on feral when they came in, but they came around tho 2 of them didn’t find homes, Kerri had Razor in the big cage & he was a confident lil boy, then some of the cats in the big cage started picking on him & he’s reverted back to his timid ways :( Its weird how cats picking on him has made him scared of people again, but that’s what’s happened. He’s back in a smaller cage with his sister Shae now & we’re slowly trying to teach him not to be scared of us…
This is Razor’s sister Shae:

She’s a confident lil monkey cat when she’s in the cage, but still a little on the timid side with people – tho not as bad as Razor’s gotten. She has the softest coat ever, feels almost like a bengal’s pelt!
This is Lizzie:

She’s a funny one, came from a country pound where she’d been there for months & was initially slightly cage bound - it’s a weird situation coz most pounds don’t keep cats that long. Anyway her underside is covered in matts but she can be a bit aggressive so we haven’t been game to try & brush her. Kerri cut a few of the matts off when I was holding her once, but she let us know in no uncertain terms when she’d had enough of that, lol…
This is Fizz:

Hannah (the new volunteer who’s done photography) took these pics – aren’t they stunning!!! Made me a lil sad to see how much better her pics are than mine, but I’ll get better with experience :)
This is Jane:

She came in with 2 bubs who have now gone to homes, I didn’t realise how skinny she was til saw her filling out!
This is Watermelon:

Isnt she pretty! The looks like she’s missing her ruff, lol :)
& this is Gypsy:

Pretty lady has just come back from a foster carers & is not impressed by all the other cats at the adoption centre & likes to tell us all just how unimpressed she is! She’s all noise tho :)
It was very much a tabby day – all tabbies except for Razor & even he has a bit of tabby through his coat!
Hope you all enjoy the pics :)

Well Seanie, you Know "the standing orders" by now.
ALL on the Group Gallery!
Yes they are almost "studio portraits".
I think your new volunteer, has spent more thime thinking about "light and shade" and the settings beyound "auto" (which is ALL I usually use, unfortunately)
And Photographers often study "The Old Masters" to see how light and composition is used by the err. "Old Masters".
Guido.

I always have tortoiseshell cats. If we didn't have three cats already, I'd take Wombie in a second. I'd drive cross-country to get her, too. She reminds me of our Mitzi, except Mitzi is a short-hair and Wombie is better looking.
We got Mitzi from an adoption agency. She was arrested in an alley in a deep and dark and cold and rainy November. We got her the very next day. At the shelter they said she was 8 weeks old, and she was so tiny we believed them. She had pneumonia and she was malnourished and she could sit in the palm of my hand with room to spare. She was so weak and sick and skinny: her eyes were dull, almost dead, and she acted as if she was about half comatose. She needed somebody so badly that we just couldn't say "no."
We fed her and doctored her and 4 months later we took her to be spayed. She was still so small we had to show the adoption papers before Doc would believe she was more than 10 weeks old. Now she's 2 years old and weighs 12 pounds but she is bowlegged (Doc says it's from malnutrition). She has the most beautiful green eyes I've ever seen. She loves sour cream more than anything in this life. We think she likes us, too, but suspect it's only because we deliver the sour cream. . . .
Sorry, no pics. I'd have to run her through my sheet-fed scanner, and she says she wouldn't like that. . . .

This is "Lightening", one of our newest additions to the shelter. He's probably about 2-3 months old:

Look at his eyes!
Then there's his sister, Fancy:

Isn't she a sweetie? And she talks!
This is Tipper, he was badly hurt when he was found, and he was a love, a sweetie. However, he lost his fight with infection today. I'm glad I got to know him and give him some love.

It was good to know you, Tipper, even if only for a short while.

My new pics from the weekend:
Bishop:

He’s a very affectionate but cheeky lil thing, kept climbing out of the cage into my arms while I was trying to take pics :)
Josh:

He’s very sweet but thinks he has a bit to sook about, lol, he has a miaow & likes to use it :)
Aiden:

He’s a bit more confident than Tabby boy2, & calmer than Tabby boy1, a sweet boy :)
Sally:

A sweet confident girl - a bit of a poser isn’t she, lol :)
Midori:

She’s very sweet, happy to be held & will get comfy in your arms pretty quick - & check out those stunning eyes! :)
Bambi:

She’s been with one of our foster carers for a while getting healthier & she’s gotten so much bigger since we last saw her! & the lil white patch she had at the base of her tail (which was why she was called bambi) has grown out :)
Lizzie:

She’s also been with the foster carer getting healthier & she’s really filled out - & check out those eyes :)
Harry:

He was a surrender & was so terrified when he got dropped off that he wet himself! He’s been living at Kerri’s for a while & has just come back to the shop, still a bit timid at times, but will be a lovely boy once he gets his confidence :)
& this is Fluffington & Butternut (no idea where the names came from, lol):

These 2 are still too feral to put into a set up cage for pics, but they’re coming around & super cute :)
Got a few new pics of Priya coz she still looked scared in her last photo shoot:

Her “switch has flipped” as Kerri puts it, she’s realised that us humans are good for cuddles as well as food :) Isn't she pretty!
& got new pics of Swift too coz we only haave pics from when he was itty bitty:

His eyes are too dark but at least it shows what he looks like now... He’s still pretending he’s feral so hasn’t had as much attention as he needs lately, so I’ve made him my project & have him purring on my lap for short amounts of time now :)

Glad you're liking the pics guys :) I wish instant teleportation existed so overseas adoptions could happen :)
We have names now (I've added them to the post). The tabbies have been named after characters from the TV show "Being Human" & our Torbie girl has been named Midori which means green in Japanese (after the amazing green in her eyes)...
The Being Human theme became quite appropriate when we tried to put Josh into a travel cage with Midori (they're going to a foster carers for a little while because they're a bit sniflfy) & he didnt like that idea at all & in the process of telling us how much he didnt like that idea he scratched me good & proper like a warewolf would, lol...

Dear Seanie (and I am still unsure if you are M/F, not that it that matters, except for pronouns)
Well, I once got a set of 4 parallel deep scratches
on my forearm, which lasted for 10+ years.
A feral who really didn't want to be washed. But boy did she need it. Later I found out she was pregrant. But thats another story.
Seanie, regard those 'scars' as battle wounds incurred in the "good fight" :-)

Seanie, you take amazing pictures! These kitties are all beautiful and your skill with a camera helps us see it! Do you publicize the photos somewhere else where potential adopters see them? I think they are a great "selling" point! P.S. I think Sally is the "preciousest"!
52Seanie
Thankfully the scratches aren't deep, there are just quite a few of them & the biggest is in the webbing from the base of my pointer finger to the base of my thumb so is a rather uncomfortable spot! I already had a few minor scratches on my hands so I'm not worried & do regard them as battle wounds :)
Thankyou for the compliment glade1 :) I've got a lot to learn about how to get the best out of my camera, but I really enjoy taking pics of the cats - I've taken over 4000 photos since I got my new camera in March, lol... We do put the pics up on the Pet Rescue website & also on The Cat Corner's facebook page so do use them to attract potential adopters :) That's the main reason I take them, but I do love sharing them with other cat lovers too :)

I am still in love with Tang, "the little lion man" on the top of this thread. I suppose he was adopted long ago, Seanie?
65Seanie
Tang is still with us, he was at a foster carers until about a week ago to try & bring him out of his shell as he was still timid. He got much more confident at the foster carers, but likes to hide in a cave bed in the adoption centre so hasn't had much interest shown yet, we tried putting an open bed in with him instead of the cave so he wouldn't hide but he just filled the bed with litter, lol, so we're letting him hide & waiting for the perfect home to come along. Its funny, once he's out of the cave & in your arms he's quite happy to have a cuddle & get brushed, its just that he wont come out of that cave unless he has to! I think he'll always be a pretty quiet lump of a cat tho, so as said, we'll wait for the perfect fitting home to come along for him :)
66anna_in_pdx
Oh.... gee... I feel like he is a soul mate. I wish he did not live a continent away or I would be putting serious pressure on my family right now, no lie.
One of my current cats, and the first cat I got after coming back to the States and not having had pets since childhood, is Samantha, who is a scaredy cat and spent her first week with us hiding under my dresser. After about 6 years with us, she is still a timid animal but she now sleeps on my bed and will sit on laps if there are no sudden loud noises in the vicinity - so much better than when we first got her. We got her from the Humane Society.
Tang is so gorgeous and I am sure someone will adopt him soon.

Update: Lightening, Fancy and their brother Cotton (not pictured) all have been adopted to their Forever Homes!

Just thought I’d post an update on all the kitties I’ve posted pics of in this thread :)
Tang – Went to a home this weekend!!! He went with a lovely 14year old girl (I’m not good with kids so putting “lovely” with “14 year old” is rare for me!) & I think he will be spoilt rotten – he’s been re-named Tater coz she said “Oh look, he’s a couch potato” & it stuck, lol :) ETA - just to clarify, the girls mum signed all the paperwork, we don't adopt out to underage people without a parent to sign
Pepsi – Unfortunately Pepsi passed away when at the foster carers, we’re not sure what happened, she just didn’t wake up one morning :(
Joey – Has a home :)
Wombie – Has a home :)
Peanut – Has a home :)
Razor – Is still with us - & still doesn’t like me much! But we’re getting there, I can give him scritches through the cage & he’ll rub up against it & purr, but if I go into the cage he still tries to hide…
Shae – Has a home :)
Lizy – Is still with us, she has a bit of attitude & tends to nip you when she’s had enough of you, she’s just nipping, not biting, but will still need an understanding home
Fizz – Has a home :)
Jane – Has a home :)
Watermelon – Is still with us – she’s decided she doesn’t like other cats, so unfortunately when she gets out to meet people she often hisses because of the other cats in the adoption centre, so she’s another who will need an understanding home…
Gypsy – Has a home – she went home with one of our new volunteers on Saturday :)
Bishop – Has a home
Josh – Is still with us & is a problem child, he likes to be patted but is a real whinger & has lashed out at me twice for picking him up (once at my face!), so he may go back to the foster home for a bit more socialisation…
Aiden – Is with a foster carer atm, he was a lil fluey so stayed longer than the others.
Sally – Is still at the adoption centre & I don’t know why! She is sooo sweet she’ll surely find a home very soon!
Midori – Is with Aiden @ the foster carer’s (she was a bit fluey too)
Bambi – Has a home :)
Lizzie – Has a home :)
Harry – Is still with us at the adoption centre
Fluffington – Is still with us, slowly coming around, can probably be called “timid” rather than “feral” now :)
Buttercup – Is still with us, slowly coming around, can probably be called “timid” rather than “feral” now :)
Priya – Has a home :)
Swift – Is still with us & is coming around slowly, I don’t need to corner him to catch & pat him now, he still doesn’t like to be held & freezes when I pat him - but he purrs quite loudly when getting pats, so is a bit confused, lol :)
Beazley – Has a home :)
Jelly – Has a home :)
Jam – Has a home :)
Remi – Has a home :)

Awwww, i am also happy for Tang and all those others. Sorry to hear about Pepsi...

Gotta love those volunteers! They always take one home with them. I know because I was one of those people. That is how we got Willow -- volunteering as a foster home. Yeah. Right.
Also sorry about Pepsi, but you are doing really, really well!

Loved reading all the updates! I'd take one of those timid kitties if I could - my husband and I always adopt timid babies and we plan to for the rest of our cat-adopting lives.

Watermelon, Josh, Sally & Midori also now have homes :) So of the list above, Lizzy, Swift, Razor, Fluffington & Buttercup are still waiting to find their right people :)

I took 282 photos yesterday @ TCC! I've only uploaded a couple of photos of the 2 girls we still need names for, the rest will be edited & uploaded in the next few days.
We had 15 new cats come in from one place last week! A fairly common story unfortunately, a lady started with one girl cat a couple of years ago, didn't get her desexed & let her roam, she had a litter, who have had a litter etc... Now she has over 20 cats at her house, none of which were allowed inside or had ever seen a vet, tho she did feed them & give them a bit of affection so they're relatively healthy & pretty good temperaments. They're all very shell shocked to be in the adoption centre, they'd never been inside & now they're in cages so they're understandably confused :( 3 of the girls were pregnant so have gone to foster carers, the others will get their vet work done then be rehomed through TCC, all except 2 boys that the lady wants to keep, but we're getting them desexed before we'll return them to her.
Here are the 2 girls still needing names:

Both names been used recently! Paperwork gets confusing if we re-use names within short times of eachother so we try & avoid it... Thanx for thinking tho :)
80guido47
How about using numbers as well. eg. Priscilla II.
I am sure most adopters will give their cat a new and meaningful name anyway.
ETA. Just can't spell this morning.

Our shelter named our kitten Sugar Dumpling Boots. His name is now Buzz. You are welcome to all three of the names he is not using! :)
82Rowntree
Elinor (lower pic) and Marianne (upper)? The latter appears to have a great deal of sensibility. . . .
84MerryMary
My thought was of Mary and Martha. Martha (the top picture) looks as though she were beset with worries and frets, while Mary's face is mild and serene; ready to sit and listen by the hour to philosophy and wisdom.
86dekesolomon
The top one is Dido and the bottom one is Helen. Tortoiseshell girls should all get names from the classics. Dido, of course, was the warrior Queen of Carthage. Helen had the face that launched a thousand ships.
87Mr.Durick
I'm okay with Trixie for the top one, but the bottom one, Penelope though she is, has a lot of Sarah (with an h) to her.

We did a photo shoot on saturday, was planing on trying to get Christmas themed pics to use for a "Christmas Food Appeal" poster. Unfortunately it really wasn't my day for photos, 3 cats refused to sit still enough to get ANY photos & the Christmas ones just didn't come out how I wanted them to *sigh* but thats what happens with trying to photograph cats I suppose, lol...
I did get a couple of pretty good ones IMO :)
This is Jess:

Jess is suuuper sweet with people but does not like other cats at all, hard to believe such a cute lil thing can be such a monster to other cats!!!
This is Luna:

Luna used to be called Winnie. She was adopted earlier this year, but the girl who adopted her ended up moving house & giving (/dumping) both Luna & her dog to her mum to look after, Luna has a food allergy & the girls mum already has 2 cats & was having trouble keeping Luna away from the other cats food so decided to return her to Kerri with a couple of months’ worth of food & a $100 donation. So tho no returns are good, this was as good as a return can get, Luna’s a lovely natured cat & will just need a home that can separate her for feeding or where she can be an only cat…
These are 2 one of our feral Mum’s bubs, they’re 3 weeks old & we haven’t named them yet but are thinking place names or Royal names to go with their mum who will be called Victoria:

Such a shame the kitten’s blurry in the last one!
& This is Silver posing for our Christmas themed shoot:

I’m so in love with this lil girl, she is SUUUCH a happy lil cat! Still not 100% comfy being held but I think that’s prob because she feels a bit ungainly with her pregnant belly rather than because she doesn’t want cuddles, she runs to the front of the cage for pats as soon as you open the door & turns herself around in circles paddling at the floor & purring away while you pat her, she’s just adorable!!! Still so hard to believe that such a little girl is gonna be a mumma cat soon, really hope that everything goes well for her, she’s pretty special…

Seanie - That picture of the little black kitten with his mouth open is just crying out for a caption. If your shelter web page is up, or you have a facebook page, it would be perfect for a caption contest. And I love the way you've managed to get his whiskers showing perfectly. What a cutie, and so is the other kitten with his funny little mask!
You have some great shots here, good for you for volunteering your time.

The one of Jess is darling too!

We took in a stray about six weeks ago. Vet says he's about 6 months old. He's long and lean and tall and slender. I think it'll take him a couple of years to grow enough to match his legs, which are the longest I believe I've ever seen on a cat. He's narrow-faced, sharp-eyed, short-haired, black as the inside of a coal mine at midnight -- not a white hair on him anywhere -- and he has HUGE feet. He's not shy, but he's polite and gentle. Our other male cat, Hobo (2 years old), took to him right away. The two girls, though, (Moxie is 3 and Mitzi is two, both torties) slap the snot out of the new guy every time they see him. It can't go on much longer, because he's getting big enough to fight back and in time he will surely dwarf either of the girls. Sammo (the new guy) and the rest of us pray for peace soon. Things are slowly getting better.

I put up a new WordPress blog a few days ago. I plan to publish book reviews and personal essays and cat stories and "stuff." Seanie has given me an idea. I'm gonna buy a camera and drive around my area to cat shelters and rescue homes and take pictures of our local, feline refugees. They'll look good with my book reviews and I'll have fun meeting new people and taking the pictures.
97guido47
Ah "Deke" (quote/unquote) I hope that you will, also like Seanie, "...muck out the stables..." every now and then. Shelter Cats aint just there to promote your book reviews.
98dekesolomon
> 97 -- "Shelter cats ain't just there to promote your book reviews."
What -- are you nuts? How could anybody live with four cats in the house who doesn't bother to "muck out the stables"? I certainly could not. So we got this little latino lady: she's an illegal immigrant. If she doesn't "muck out our stables" at least once a day, we beat her and starve her and take the blankets out of the doghouse we let her sleep in, and we threaten to turn her over to INS.
Oh, wait! I was saving that because I plan to run for Congress in 2014, and I need the shelter cats to boost my public image. I'll starve the cats and have them injected with diseases and blame it on the illegal immigrant lady. I'll claim she deceived me, and have her deported while I campaign on a "Hire American" platform, promising Hope and Change. Then I'll join the Mormon Church. . . .

Of course my only question is. Is Hank old enough to be a candidate? I suspect not.
My Lizzy is now at least 18 yo.
I recon. I should put her up for at least a Senate Seat? And please don't give me that 7 to 1 ratio.

If you don't do the 7:1 ratio then no cat will ever win a seat. And Henri, Le Chat Noir has pretensions in that direction. His slogan is "No Castration without Representation".

> 105, guido47 -- I am not a Republican. I am not a Democrat. I am a libertarian socialist -- which is to say I believe in socialism at the macro level (housing, food, medical care for everyone) and the Bill of Rights at the micro level (free speech, right to bear arms, freedom from arbitrary searches and seizures, all the rest of it).
I don't care if you agree with me or not but PLEASE don't call me a Republican or a Democrat or a Tea Party or a Greenie or any of the others, 'cuz I isn't. I've invented my own political party. So far it has only one member. The good news is that our conventions are inexpensive.

#109 LOL - we have some real oddball parties here in Oz. I usually vote for a party which advocates meditation for the masses and I believe that over east they had some sort of Sex Party but Guido would know more about that. I live out West where we are forgotten by the federal government (except when they want money) but we are quite often rich. :)
We are getting away from cats - my fault I fear; maybe we should start another thread ...
