Don't know what to say about that fool and the arsenal...under his bed...just that people like him give responsible gun owners a bad name...

A "hint" for Stuffed Peppers: whenever i make Tacos, i cook extra meat filling, and freeze it......add some cooked rice to the thawed meat...and extra tomato "whatever you have".....and stuff halved bell peppers...with favorite taco toppings (CHEESE!) it's a fun meal!!

Rained here for a bit, but still feels like a sauna!!!

Sounds like a good use of leftovers :) jude! As for the article.. and the one from Cory's neighborhood in my last thread..... certain guns should not be owned by anyone...The Leetsdale guy may be just a kook first .. but even a kook can be dangerous. The one in Crofton is clearly dangerous first, and a kook second. IMO
And both are too close to home to suit me. :P

Hi Lynda! Have fun with your TIOLI challenges!

Megan, I think they are beautiful. I had never heard of such a thing until I found them a month or so ago...

Gail. Assault rifles. The founding fathers wanted us to be able to kill 100 or more people in a minute. It was their dream for the nation they were trying to create... or so some would have us believe.

Valerie. I feel your pain. Hard to take a break. The only answer is to start fresh wherever you land. IMO

OK, I'm back. Happy morning, Kath. Hope your weather treats you nicely today! We are on day 3 of offering a 3 day garage/yard sale. Plan to make everything 1/2 off so I can get it outta here! I have a little over $100 in hand this morning so all I get today will be called "gravy".

Kindle does allow loans .. I think if you know who you want to loan the book to, you can send it to their kindle email address and the book pops in. Currently reading A Violent Act by Alison Joseph (Sister Agnes Mystery) . It is the first of a series, and one that I picked up free for kindle. I left here at 1:30 i-sh and went to my sister's house. Played in the pool with the boys. Fed Owen, and
came hom a little while ago. My furkids were a bit worried, since their dinner time arrived and I did not!
I am a wee bet queasy fromt he pool.. moving water tends to do that to me. :P but
it was fun. Owen is hilarious in the water. We came in and got everyone all dried off and dressed, and I sat down to wait for kim and keith to get back with their new car. Oliver... bless him.. said "Aunt Katie, I want you to leave now." I was out the door in a flash, a flash I tell you. I can only hope that Debbie reprimanded him ( hah!) for being rude. He had had enough of me because He had been screaming and acting bratty.I told him he needed to be nicer to other people. Clearly he disagreed.

Only did 2 loads of laundry today as I refuse to let go of my vacation glow too fast. Have about 100 loads to go... due to company right before we left.
VT was great - green mountain peaks and flowers everywhere. Calm - quiet - beautiful. We did a lot of exploring and found a lot of dirt roads - apparently quite common in the Northern Kingdom!
Tomorrow - back to the summer grind. Gotta get TIDE ready to go out on Wednesday.

Doubling what Cee said.

I love watching the athletes perform--swimming (I'm sure that seems dumb and boring to some), gymnastics, rowing. But, I dunno, seems to be way too much emphasis is being put on country and also on winning. I mean, they're in the Olympics. Surely that's winning enough. Anything else is gravy. Or am I just getting old???

Kitty Olympics would be great, especially as they do what they want when they want to do it.

Karen... don't mind the bright green color of me :) New macbook! wonderful ! Let me know what you think if it, when you know.

Gail...I am glad that they are all having fun at the Olympics. Or at least most of them. I agree, so much craziness about winning. These people are all the best of the best of their countries. Just being there is their first win, right? Or am I just getting old, too???

Terri... I think you would like them.. Check out the order of them if you want to read more than one :)
I read the newest ( weird that would be the kindle freebie....) I may go back and read one or two. Are you still running today?

Different day, rd. Yesterday just clean got away from me. Hope you have coffee?xo

Joe, is she a gymnast? Swimmer? Well, glad she did good. Those are all dedicated parents! Hard to imagine the time and money spent with training those kids.

Thanks Ellen. Kitty says thanks, too. It's wednesday! What a good thing that is :)

Thanks Gail. I made it through. The good thoughts made a difference.

Yesterday was just nuts. Dan was home, that always makes it hectic right off the bat.
Then there are some family decisions that were making me crazy. And to top it off, My cousin called 3x
in the midst of meltdown and Dan's sister actually called while I was on the phone with my cousin.

Marty.. ( Dan's sister) called me from mcDonald's. She couldn't figure out how to dial her phone. She was trying to call Eat'N Park. A restaurant about 7 miles away. She wanted take out food. Yes. I did say she was at McDonald's when she called. She wanted to come here so I could show her. ( and she didn't want to get out of the car, she wanted me to go out to her) I invited her to eat with us. She declined. So I managed to get off the phone with Janice, and went out. I can't see the screen of her phone outside, of course. She didn't want me to bring it in. ok. So ... Somehow I sorted her out. I showed her how to dial her phone. again. And I put Eat'N Park in her contact list. Helped her order.

Then, came in and had my own dinner, which by then was getting cold. I didn't care enough to put it in the microwave, and besides....It was leftover stuffed pepper, and I had nuked it to begin with. Craziness.

Then I had committed to go and work the phone bank for Obama... a stressful situation for me, that I
did indeed do, and survive. Here's hoping today is better, although.. I really feel like I want to go back to bed.
Can't though, I have to take my neighbor somewhere at 9. And Dan is off again today. so?

So whatcha all been up to?

Aug 1, 2012, 8:58 am

Good morning, Kath! I lift my coffee cup to you for the phone bank work. I hope it helps.

Yesterday morning at breakfast I had the pleasure of having the kids tell me that Obama is a Muslim, salutes the flag the way the Muslims do (I told them I'd never seen that before), and that Democrats are evil. sigh. I told the 11 yo that I was not going to carry on the conversation with him since he knew "nothing" and was just repeating what he's heard. Double sigh. What can I do when the 4.5 yo girl, who I love dearly, tells me the Ds are evil?

I remind myself they are children... and that the instincts to be independent will arrive when they are teenagers.... I think the father will be surprised what happens to all his brainwashed kids.

Patience!

Off to another day of swimming lessons, basketball camp, and math tutoring. Being a Nanny uses a lot of gasoline, I'm telling you.

Hope your day is great!

Hi, Kath.

Yes, Missy Franklin is an Olympic swimmer for the U.S. who won the gold for the 100 meter backstroke, and is in other events, too. She seems to be a remarkably level-headed 17 year old who has stayed in her home town rather than go train in CA or FL (as so many high level swimmers do), and has not done any commercial endorsements so she can stay amateur and swim with her friends on her high school team. Her parents seem as level-headed as she is, and see her life as a whole, not just in the swimming pool. Great to see.

Hi calm, there is something about the days that Danis off that makes things crazy.
He is off again today.

Karen.. holy moly!!!!! That would be tough. As you say, kids just repeat what they hear.
Their parents know that you are an evil Democrat, right? Just wow. I got into it a bit with another caller last night. She is " a yellow belly dyed in the wool dem" who votes a straight ticket every time. I said that I stepped away from the Dems when they knuckled under when Bush was in office. I am registered Independent. And even before that, I vote for the person who is most honest and votes most like I would want my representative to vote. She was rude about it ... she was none too nice on the phone. If I were running that show, I would give her something else to do. But I'm not, so.. whatever. My BIL and Walter voted Republican. (BIL for guns, he has them everywhere ) Walter? He actually considered Fox to be news.

Joe, Well thanks for the info! I haven't been watching.. doing other things. Good to know that some of the kids have their heads on straight and have good support. I did hear about 1-2? being sent away due to irresponsible tweets. Easy to get in trouble these days.

Mamie.. don't be sorry about the phone bank. I got myself into it.. so had to steep up. I survived, I always do ( so far) but it is the anticipation that gets my anxiety going. I am lucky to have friends who encourage me and are kind ( there there pat pat as rd says ) Hubby home tomorrow, right? yay!!!

Chelle, I do not know how you manage to visit LT at all, and I am so happy to see you visiting here :)

rd... hmmm. interesting question. Maybe he is rubbing off on you? Maybe just one of those things :)
What do you call his books? Two hankies and a bottle of gin?

Valerie.. that made me smile.. Thanks for coming by, I enjoy your visits!

This morning I had to delay my quick trip to the grocery to wait to take follow Margie to her car repair.
Then I brought her home, and on my way to the store, saw that my elderly neighbor was about to go hiking down the hill. He is about 88. So, instead we bargained and I shopped for them. sheesh! Things can get more complicated easily! But, I feel good that they now have some fresh vegies .

Me too.. I am going to make roasted cauliflower and hot sausage. I think I will have chicken instead.. we have some leftover. So fruit and vegies are clean and ready to go and I will cook soon. I still have a headache. Rumor has it that Marty is sopping by.

No reading, but another vine book showed up Me, Who Dove Into the Heart of The World
So I am good for books....

Glad to see you made it home from your Morning Travels...my Grocery Run was short, and painless....found a big bag of frozen shrimp......still costly but a little less so. Had to pick up some things for Debbie, who is down at her son's today..helping him with work....anyway 11:15 the power went out...only for an hour but Jeesh! this is happening way too often....

No comments regarding Marty.....just remember, "this too, shall pass"

>81 mckait:: I know it's just a typo, but "Marty is sopping by"---yes indeedy, sopping up all your good will. What happens if you're down with flu or whathaveyou? Does she just wait it out? Or come and sit on the sickbed begging for help! Such an ick!

I thnk I might eat some grapes and drink some water. Dr. said lay off the diet pepsi *deep sobbing* except when I go out, so now mus drink copious amounts of water. It just ain't the same.

Anyway, the sunflowers are in full, cheerful bloom out by the mailbox. So nice to look out the front window and see them.

Strangely, the furkids were so happy to be picked up and brought home they actually behaved really well! I thought we'd be in for attitude and "accidents" as usual - but no. Not at all! Can't figure it.

Sounds like you have been a busy lady. But then that is about normal for you.
Did you start ATGIB yet? I'm about to - very soon. Just need to finish a library book first so I can return it on time Thirty Three Teeth - a good one!

Gail... LOL right you are! ( see above) she joined weight watchers ( at the bottom of my hill) and I really hope she is not a regular wednesday visitor. I love sunflowers so much! I have none this year.. maybe next year?

Cee.. I don't mean to be busy. I keep trying not to. Glad all is well in furkid land.

Ellen, I hope that you are out the door and off on your adventure by now!

Cee... Don't ask. IT doesn't fit in with my do nothing day today. But now I'm done.
I think. Have a nice day out and maybe you should bring some ice cream home?

Mamie.. that's the plan! starting soon.

Frankly I am hoping that I get invited to my sisters pool. It is an hour of easy exercise ..
and with luck Oliver won't spray chlorine laden water directly into my eyes if his mom is there?

And reading.. I want to read. I do, really... it just looks like I don't
( see, for me, this is a hazard of g=GRs. If I gotta I don't wanna)
But read I will. soon.

First, feeding and packing food for Dan.. and when he's out the door, the day is mine.

I love my mom and all but sometimes, I have to brace myself when we talk because the conversation will either end up withme often breathing a sigh of relief, occasionally smiling, but mostly crying because I'm so frustrated with some of the decision she makes. I will get something different today. Unless, of course the drug stor that doesn't carry ginger also doesn't carry sun screen. Perhaps wear a tee over suit if I go today? I started trying to cut down on coke a couple of months ago. I am well and truly addicted, and it isn't fun. It's possible that I have one or two left in there .. but I may have had the last can yesterday. Ewww to water, yes. How about Crystal Light?

Cee... That giraffe is almost as cute as the real thing! Thank you :) I will be keeping it, of course.
I am once again still sleepy... but not unhappy :) I have wakened sleepy for days, and I am npt taking any sleep aids... oh well. So what is on your agenda for today? Oh wait, I read that. A cook out for family is the heat of August :PPPPP I wish you much rain so they move it indoors :)

Bank this morning and birthday cards. I need 5. And a quick trip to the drug store should do it for me.

Hi Kath - right now it is 77 degrees with very slight breeze - but 91% humidity. If I sit still it doesn't seem so bad but the fear index (thoughts of higher temps this afternoon) makes it feel like 150! It's all in my head I guess.

When it comes to bday cards we now make them on the computer. I hate spending the money on, and agonizing over choosing, cards in the store - not to mention the inconvenience of driving so far. If I buy a bunch of them all at once I shudder at the total cost.
Ron is willing to play with the greeting card program we have which is a lot cheaper and we have fun customizing them.

Cookout today: "Please Mr Custer... please don't make me go..." *groan*

104mckait
Aug 3, 2012, 10:46 am

9 cards 26$ . I found .99 cards for the nephlets. I bought them even though they are january birthdays, cause they were .99 cents, and I might not see them or they might not have them later. I will shop again in January for Bob and Bobby These will be good til the end of the year. I admire you for doing them at home. I do not have the creativity needed to do such a thing. You are dead right about the cost. You are also right about the heat fear index. I have it too.

I understand why you don't want to go.. but if it is too hot, surely they will move indoors for that, too.. so they don't have the elderly and their families dropping like flies...and I doubt they will have a fleet of paramedics on scene. I wish you cool breezes.

Did not go to the pool today, did go to buy some scoop chips for salsa, and take some to family.

Talked to a young lady just now who is sweet and likable and smart. And who can't afford to pay 350$
for insurance from her 10$ an hour job. She takes meds and is under doctors care and pays out of pocket. She will not be voting for Obama. Told her how my mom's insurance company called her when she was 56 yrs old and battling cancer... and told her she had reached her lifetime limit. That we need the healthcare. Still. She wouldn't say why. I am ...unable to understand. When blue collar or paycheck to paycheck people who are trying to get by with no insurance turn their back on the man who is trying to get it for them...
why? Why, is all I can think of to ask. If we don't try to look out for our own selves and each other.. if we don't get healthcare for everyone... I dunno. I don't know. It made me sad.

126tymfos
Edited: Aug 4, 2012, 3:18 pm

If she can't afford $350 for insurance, how does she afford paying out of pocket for all her meds & doctor visits? A doctor visit and a couple of name-brand prescriptions can easily add up to more than $350 if you don't have insurance, because with the system the way it has been, the uninsured pay top dollar, while insurance companies have special rates negotiated with the doctors, hospitals, and drug companies. And what if she gets sicker, or needs an operation . . .

127mckait
Aug 4, 2012, 3:30 pm

I know Terrie..I don't understand. I like her a lot.. she is great at her job..
and the 350$ is what insurance would cost her at her job. I didn't ask. I
went to far as it was, telling her why we need to vote for Obama.. it wasn't
appropriate. But I was gobsmacked ... I know her physical issues.... ER maybe?
Just don't know.

128jdthloue
Aug 4, 2012, 4:32 pm

$350/month for Insurance? Damn, she would be lucky....i'm paying $477+/month...but I am Self-Pay..

Does she think Life Under Romney would be better??? With his condescending arrogance....I guess, at least he's not Black......(uh oh...shouldn't have said that, right?)...of course, i don't know this person's particulars...but, given that Obamacare is responsible for Insurance Company rebates ( I got $120 from Anthem/Blue Cross Blue shield)...what is her problem??

I usually do not vote in Presidentials..but, this go-round will be so close..yep, i'm gonna vote this year

Regarding Sunscreen...my old friend Cheryl was a very fair skinned red head....and she found a sunscreen in a Sporting Goods store....i don't remember what it was, but my friend Angie used something similar....Angie is supposed to call me tonight or tomorrow...I'll let you know what she tells me....

Linda, A good thunder storm sounds good to me. I am hoping for one today.. they said we should
get one. Glad the power wasn't off for too long. A little secret? I sort of like it when the power goes off for a little while ( as long as it isn't too hot. Especially if it's early evening... porching in the dark with the Dunc and a book is good)

rd. ha! no Three Pines? I knew it. It is already long off my pre-order list and I will wait and see if it comes to me by any othermeans ( vine, LTER) if not, I won't bother. If so? Well, I may or may not request it.
Thanl you for the heads up rdear :) feel better today !

Mamie. I know.. I suspected it from reading her blog months ago. It is set at a monastery. The last one that wasn't set in Three Pines was my least favorite, so I pretty much decided then that it was not going to be on my must read list. It's Three Pines that I long for, and if it is just a good read? As rd says.. there are other books .. so...

No worries jude. Ha not only the sunburn , but the fact that being n the pool makes me feel nauseated.... lol But I decided that it would be a good way to move without having to walk in the heat. Ginger helps a bit with the nausea. Crazy, huh? I will have to figure this out.

I did start to read last night... ATGIB, but got a phone call...I am remembering why I loved the story so much. There are a lot of things that bring back all sorts of childhood memories. Even though my childhood began more than a decade later than the story, things were slower to change back then.

Lynda, we never seem to have enough rain these days.. I'll take what I can get.

Paul, thank you... it was good. And I stayed out of the sun thanks to the rain :)

rd xo I think it's arrogant to be spending money on exploring Mars when we can't explore out own alyways and can't keep children fed. But that's me.. I think we need toput our own planet to rights before we start meddling with others.

Hi Linda :( Thank you, it was a good day, I spent some of it reading

Joe, it makes me smile to see you :) hello! and yes, it was good. Married 41 years today.

So

90. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith read and reviewed 4.5 stars.

rd... Thank you~ I really enjoyed reading the book again and I'm glad this GR
pushed me into doing it again. And bombing..that's another story, which begins with the whys ....
It's too early in the morning to go there.

Megan. There is a GR going on for August if you want to find it and join in... or not.
I was still as unable to put it down as I was all of those years ago. As for 41 years...not so much an achievement ...srsly.

Well, I didn't start anything else last night, hope to today.

Great review, Kath. A hearty thumbs up from me too. I see many parallels in this story in my life and the stories I've heard from my parents. I wish I could sit and read it all day but tons of stuff to do. Have a good day, what's your next read?

156mckait
Aug 6, 2012, 7:44 am

Lynda.. I'm not sure what is next... I am wavering between Me, Who Dove Into the World and
Pigeon Pie Mystery ...both are appealing to me equally. I had gone for several days with no
reading, and so decided to read the book yesterday, when I could just sit down after Dan left and
read. Nothing calling me away.

Hi Mark.. I loved the book so much! I hope you do, too.

Mornin' Kath. Superb review; thumbed. I too am enjoying my re-read of this one. When I read it, oh, 2-3 times as a child, most of the adult stuff just sounded like the endless conversations/lectures going on from the parents. But Francie and her tree, Francie and the library, Francie and the meaningless hurts she suffered from other kids: yeah, that really rang true.

Big shopping today. Back later.

Cee... not great but a review.. I had the time yesterday, so I just went through
I understand about not wanting to "go there" .. but I had to .. I have been wanting a reread for a long time.. this pushed me into it.

Joe, I bet you will like it, too! It isn't really about a little girl, it is about a time in history, that magically fits all ages, all times... at least up to a point.. maybe the electronics age is where it would veer off.

Morning Kath - Just squeezing in while I can still technically say that! I LOVED your review of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - thumb from me. I am in the middle of part three and really enjoying the book. The writing speaks to me.

So, whatcha doing today? We have that second showing, but it is not until 6:45 tonight, so at least we don't have to rush around getting ready. Dan and Rae both have finals tomorrow, so they will be studying. I need to go to the grocery store - ugh. Think we'll just grab something quick for dinner tonight so we don't have to clean up the dishes before the showing or stress about the time. Think my sister might come for a visit tomorrow, so I need to call her about that and see if she is still coming or not. Need to go to the library, post office and the bank, but shouldn't take too long, I hope. So really nothing fun today - maybe tomorrow...

Good Linda.. I'm glad you will be joining us.. remember to sign up at the GR thread, if you do get it.. and if you want to read it this month :)

Mamie. Back to my sister's pool. I am trying to get in some exercise as painlessly as possible. I am not sure the pool is it, actually.. since it makes me queasy :PPPPPPPP and sunburned.. but.. I can't think of anything else I am willing to do right now. errands.. ugh. Hate doing errands. Hope all goes well :)

Thank you to all who have commented on my piddly little review :)

I think the pool is a great idea for exercise - sorry about the queasy part though - big bummer. Be careful in that sun. I hardly ever burn - maybe twice in my life, but Craig burns every time!

I hate errands, too. I try to do them all together and be done with it. A necessary evil.

Your review wasn't piddly...just saying!

Ginger for the "queasy" is good.....i buy fresh ginger...slice it...and make my own "ginger tea" by boiling the slices......strain the "tea" and store it in the fridge...it's good for what ails you!

Try to take breaks from the sun today, kiddo....too much sunburn isn't good...

It is good for what ailes you...
I left and spent one hour in the pool. Most of it swimming back and forth across the pool.
I am a terrible swimmer and I think that for me, one hour of swimming counts as two would
for someone who is actually a swimmer. So much more effort and splashing goes into it!

I came home feeling queasy and bleurgh so mybe the ginger doesn't do it.

I wish I was like some of these LTers who love to run, walk, swim and play sports I
don't know anything about. Go you women~ I think I am going to give it up and go back to bed :PPP~~~

My "No Queen Victoria" book research reading is all due back at the liberry, and unrenewable again, all eleven (I think) books! I decided that, since I had to lug these darn things back tomorrow anyway, that's when I'd go to Walmart. The dog and I will live. Uncomfortably.

Hoping that you are feeling more relaxed today and that things are looking good for everything to turn out well, Kim.

Ellen, this morning had an inauspicious beginning. Duncan wasn't feeling well yesterday... didn't eat much.
It was the end of his cycle and I gave him his meds. Since I lowered his dose, there hasn't been a bump in the road, but a day or so before getting the med, he had diarrhea. He didn't eat yesterday. This causes me great stress. I gave him two little doggie oatmeal cookies last night. Well ... 5 30 this morning I was on my way to the bathroom and stepped into a nice pile of doggie biscuit he had brought back up at some point.
He isn't himself. I am hoping it passes before the day is out. Frustration is high ( he threw up 4 inches from floor instead of carpet.... ) ...as is worry. I gave him some pepto bismol.. and now I wait :(

Hope today is better for you Cee!

{{rant}}

I am so sick and tired of people being rude and nasty and disrespectful to each other. It's bad enough that the kids on tv shows are awful, almost across the board, but now it's commercials, too. It doesn't matter what you watch (Two Broke Girls is a particular target of dislike for me ) people are just being awful. Even, and probably especially.. comedy. So sick of it! (Conttonell TP and wipes commercial with the snarky teen set me off again. I would like to take that phone off the little brat and put it down the disposal

I wouldn't use that product if they gave it to me free.. and I am NOT kidding.

And boy! do I agree with you on this rant. I am totally sick of TV. And I hardly ever go to movies. I am doing a really good imitation of a "grouchy old woman" except for all the things I continue to like: good books, good food, good neighbors, sweet family and driving a reliable car! Ha!

I hope Duncan feels much better today and stops leaving little presents around the house for you to clean up! And I hope your day goes well, too!

Good morning, and all that!

195-Cee-
Aug 8, 2012, 10:58 am

I TOTALLY get your rant, Kath! So many commercials drive me nuts! And I hardly ever watch tv. Many times I watch a commercial and say WTH? They think that's funny or acceptable behavior and thinking??? The attitudes seem to say it's all ok. Not!

It's all so subtle (well sometimes very obvious) and creeps into what people come to accept as normal behavior. Makes me sick too!

Have you seen the car commercial where everyone is rushing in to buy a car (or whatever) and keep bumping into the guy that is talking? He never says anything or reacts in any way - and the bumpers never apologize. Are people that clumsy or rude?

Karen and Cee.. I'm glad it isn't just me. I think it's part of the reason so many of our kids nowadays are so rotten. Even shows that are supposed to be kid friendly.. ( The Middle) .. insanity. And they watch and naturally they think it's ok. Then sadly, the parents, all too often don't intervene. They just ignore it. Bah!

Love to Duncan.

Well, this must be the Cranky Old People's Group because I, too, despise most t.v. The one show I like so far is "Blue Bloods", which while it's a usual cop show, does display some real family values--sharing, caring about each other, gentleness over in-your-face--but even that is not something I'd cry if I missed an episode. Mostly it's a very selective set of movies and lots of British-made shows, some of which I may watch rather obsessively, as in over and over and over again...never mind.

Hope the day improves for you, Kath; it's not hard to go upward when the first thing is your foot in a pool of animal urping.

200jdthloue
Aug 8, 2012, 1:50 pm

Hope Duncan is doing better...Kitteh was kind of listless for a couple of day, but no vomiting or diarrhea......in his case, it was the heat.....and too much rambunctiousness

Don't know what to say about rude people....i could see a lot of that, if i spent time in town...it seems to me that Reality TV has made crassness an acceptable form of behavior...just watch an episode of JERSEY SHORE (not!)....As for kids, don't get me started

Civility has to be taught in the home....but, if parents haven't been taught it....their kids will be lacking

Dunkers says love back Gail! I think I get an extra cranky old person award today..
Glad kitteh is doing better jude. I didn't leave the house today.. yay

I ( inadvertently, honest) sent a doorknocker(?) fleeing.. He kept knocking and knocking on
my neighbors door. He had a clipboard, white shirt and tie.. a red white and blue ribbon ID
around his neck. ( thus my assumption he was a doorknocker) I was outside with Duncan,
and of course Duncan barked. And doorknocker barked back.. why do people do that?

I asked him if he was looking for someone and he looked at me and fled. . Now.. I didn't think I looked all that bad.. but? I prefer to think it ws my grumpy countenance that got to him and sent him fleeing..
Do not tease my dog or I will grump at you, too HAH!

Anyway.. Even though I cooked Dunc a piece of roast beef yesterday, he never ate any. He just wouldn't eat. And he didn't eat yesterday. He had the incidence this morning, then wouldn't eat all day. So..
I made him some chicken breast and rice and broth. He ate all of the chicken I gave him, a bit of rice and the broth. Hopefully this means he is on the mend.

fingers crossed.

I made buttered noodles, pan fried pork cops and ... salsa!! for dinner for us.

I made a new vat of salsa this morning, since I ate all that I made on Saturday ..
Well, I gave some of that away, and some of today's. Only to people I love dearly ( Kim and Deb)
I took it down to Kim's this morning. I saw Oliver who was on his good behavior and was being quite sweet.
And I got to play with Owen, who was also quite sweet and funny :)

So that's my day so far :)

Oh Kath, sorry that Duncan is not feeling well. Poor baby to him from me. Glad to hear that he ate the chicken - that does seem promising.

Totally agree with you about the rudeness on tv. We hardly ever watch the real thing because those commercials are just so awful - even if you're watching a kid appropriate show, the commercials might not be. What's up with that? The shows we watch are almost all on Netflix - I'm really thinking about canceling the cable once the Olympics are over - in Yorktown, if you don't have cable, you don't get anything unless you have a really incredible antenna.

Your dinner sounds yummy. Glad you got a dose of the boys today.

Amazon Prime, there are freebies ( old movies ) Roku offers different subscriptions as well.
No football as far as I can see.. I bought one, then I got the newer one Free from Vine.. I kept it and gave the older one to my daughter. I like it a lot.... you can get HULU+ , Neflix, and Amazon, as I said, and then other things.. Check it out on Ammy...

One reason I'm such a huge fan of (don't laugh) Ice Road Truckers is that the truckers seem to be such nice people. In times of distress they help each other out and if they can assist the avg joe, they will.
Have a good one, Kath

Interesting note about the Ice Road truckers, Lynda... That's how it is supposed to be everywhere.
And how it used to be, I think between neighbors. I try to remember that. Having been very poor ( as in food tomorrow was a maybe) in my childhood, with no medical help.. not much of anything. I am very aware of how it feels to bein that place. The worst thing is when I was there again with my own kids in the 80's. The older I get the more terrifying life seems to be. I know it is possible to get to that place again. Easily.

Dunkers says thanks. He loves being scratched behind the ears :) He is feeling better today. I see another day of early a/c coming on to keep him cool. Heat gets him down.

Contemplating a trip out for an errand. Yet.. I don't wanna. Still sleepy. Angus was determined to get me out of bed at 6... he is a champ at making noise with items like curtains... srsly.

Hi there Kath!
Quiet week. Not much doin'
Might go grocery shopping today - but I don't want to think about cooking. So how do I make a list? :P
I would just get a bunch of cold stuff - already prepared - but I don't really like store made salads and already prepared meats/fish. Wish I had a cook in the summer ;-)

Glad to hear Dunkers is feeling better. Good boy!

So glad Duncan is better, which means FurMom is too.

Back from a tiring sort of test where one stares, with one covered, at a tv screen with hundreds of little squares that change direction--oh, it's weird. Did really well, much higher than normal except for one section that was three times slower than normal...hmmm...wonder what that means. Oh, right, it's me: so it must be an anomaly or just plain oddness.

Productive but exhausting session with dr. yesterday.

What to have for dinner?????

Hi Kath! Just getting started here, and I only have a few minutes - gonna be a weird day. I can feel it. Hot water heater not working again - can you believe that? So frustrating. I have a call into the plumber, but he hasn't called me back yet. I really want my hot water. I'm feeling a possible fit coming on if I can't have it.

My nephew is bringing his fiancé over this afternoon so that I can meet her before they head down to Tennessee. Their wedding plans keep changing - it's making my head spin.

Hope you have a good time at the okra store! Wish I could join you for the fish sandwich at Kelly's.

Karen... H?

Cee.. Did you end up going to shop?
I got some wall shelves we will put up for the cats to sit on....
High is good for cats... they enjoy it. I wish I had the answer to what to cook in the summer..
I am running out of ideas myself. Corn on the grill with sausage? Burgers...
Grilled chicken on salad with fries and chopped egg... Just nothing that you want to cook.. or that
I want to cook anyway. Meatballs.. /.

Gail... Thank you, and right you are! I feel better once he eats. He does this once in a wahile to see
if I still love him. Silly dog. The test sounds annoying as hell. I can't imagine having to do it. Glad it's over.
I think we might either go out or bring in.. depends on the weather. If we have the storms predeicted we will get carry out before they hit.. Time will tell

Hi Terri... no worries.. it happens.

boy I am bad with aphone keyboard.. lol
smooch back rd.. today was a total kitty day.. I bought them all sorts of new stuff.
You would hate it. Kitties love it.

Mamie.. OH NO!!! Not the water heater again :( how annoying.
I really wanted to get a flash water heater... I never managed before quitting my job.
My son and niece love theirs.. Have fun with your nephew.. and yes!!! I wish you could join us at Kelly's too!

That sounds like what our furnace guy said we may need as well because our tankless heater is rather small and old. I'm not sure what flash water heating is either.

Here's a link. I guess they are called other things too... probably what you have Caro..

We had a late lunch at Kelly's and now we're home. I got a cat sorter at Ikea. It's actually a divided shelf.. 4 equal squares I put baskets in two, two are empty. But cats keep climbing in.. it's pretty funny... If I left all the shelves empty there would be a cube per kitty. I might get another one for just that reason! LOL

I have got to find a way to store books. Tomorrow, I am packing up more of them for the shelter..
Maybe that will help. My bookshelves are VERY messy right now, very bad feng shui :P must fix. Okay, I
am going to try to check out some threads.

Thanks for bearing with me..

Yup. We ended up going to Sam's and spent $350. Needed everything and nothing seems to be under $10. But at least we don't need to use the gathered leaves to wipe now. lol

I spent the whole way to Portland feeling sorry for myself in the midst of summer sun and heat - and all the way home rejoicing in the fog! WooHoo! I was wondering if I went to a hypnotist if that might get me to like this unruly season??? Nah. I don't think I am that gullible...

Oh Cee ... sorry, it's August though.. so it will be getting cooler soon and it will be autumn. Think of the trees~ AND you have a trip coming up.. all in all good things :)

We had another great storm night before last. So wild that it fried my parents' whole electrical system, including of all things, their dishwasher! Have you ever heard of such a thing? It won't shut off! So they just have to let it run until they think the dishes are clean, then unlatch it. Hilarious (but not to them). Keith went up there last night to reset their alarm clock, and their computer is also done for.

But at least there was rain...

Okay... this weirdness with my text being typed one way.. and broken into bits is driving me nuts. It ALWAYS happens at Amazon, which makes my reviews look plan crazy. IT happens here as well, but it seems to be worse there. It has happened when I have been using Safari, Firefox and now Chrome. I go back in and sort it out, and it often just breaks to bits again. I do not get it.

eta

sometimes when I click to edit.. it appears fine, just like I typed it but when I post it .. once again, weird line breaks. GAH!

I never type my posts elsewhere, I always use the textbox provided. WTH?????

Terri... I have never heard of such a thing.. maybe they should disconnect the dishwasher?
It sounds a little scary. They have been talking about dishwasher fires on the news... Good that you're

Oh oh...I know of what Terri (#256) speaks

After my Dad died i had a lightning strike at my house....took out my TV, stove, and the relay switch on the furnace......the electrical readings were so "hot" from the power surge that the power company came out and shut off all of the power...I had to leave the house and get an electrician in......he put in a new circuit box.....rewired half of it.....and checked all of the remaining wiring......thank god insurance paid for everything

My dad had done nothing in this house for years...and the cable on the front of the house...it's coating/conduit was so corroded the wire was practically bare...it's a wonder the house hadn't caught fire years before...Jeesh!

Hi Paul and back atcha!

I put the towels down, told Dan to make sure his clothes were down.. and went to put stuff in the washer. On the way up, I passed the bucket. I realized that I hadn't done the floors with a bucket and rag in a couple of weeks.. just swiffer wetjet. So, I brought up the bucket and did the floors. Then, I went in to get my peanut butter. Not so much busy, Kath . . . didn't have much to say last night by the time I got to your thread. All typed out from posting the books on my threads and challenges. LT can feel a little like work sometimes when I finish a book that needs to get posted everywhere.

We actually had a little break this week, a couple of days in the Finger Lakes region of NY. We found the nicest dessert wine . . . called Chocolate Lab. A sweet red wine with chocolate added -- and the sweetest doggie picture on the label as a bonus. I'm sure it would make the wine snobs shudder, but quite tasty.

Ribs, you say? Yum! Enjoy your day, and your dinner!

Potato chips! ha! I want! Now!

OK, it is still "early" Sat. morning here so I've not begun my version of the attention deficit dance but that describes my housekeeping practices perfectly. Sometimes I have to chant out loud: "focus focus focus" so that I will stick to one task until it is complete. Completion is a great Goal! but it is illusive to me. And that is why I'm grouchy, curmudgeonly, crabby, and bitchy on a regular basis; or, at least, that is the excuse I try to use. oh, well, I do know the antidote: READ A GOOD BOOK and don't care too much about a cluttered, messy house.

We shall see where I go today - need breakfast soon.

Abdulrahman Zeitoun has been charged with plotting to kill his wife, her son and another man. The protagonist of Dave Eggers’s bestselling Zeitoun has had a spate of legal troubles since the book’s 2009 release, most of which related to charges of domestic battery. You can read Eggers’s statement on the matter over here. One has to wonder how these ongoing arrests will affect the forthcoming animated film based on Eggers’s book, which was scheduled for a 2014 premiere.
