Have at it! We've got 2,750 copies of 84 titles this month.

Ooh, Women's Soccer, nice. First time in a few months that I've wanted to actually win one of the books that's in the list. Very cool!!

I'm glad to say, after looking over the new list, I don't want even one of them. "Glad" because of all the piles of books I have to read. Besides, I still have one to receive from librarything.

My thoughts exactly. It isn't as if I never have something to read.

2 that I will be buying anyway so will be restricting myself to these 2. And I need to catch up with my reviews..

I've requested two this month. Looks like a great batch for people interested in cars, though!

Mighty slim pickings on the non-fiction side of things. Had one that seemed "interesting enough" to request, but that was the extent of it this month.

Easy for me. I clicked on paper and Austria and ended up with nothing. Like everyone else, I have plenty of books to read.

I requested one that I would love to read :)

Me too -- I found one that I would really love to read!

Hey Jeremy, when are the profile messages going out? I haven't received one yet.

Hmm, should have gone - maybe it died though, I'll take a look.

ETA: Yep, it quit on me. Restarted!

Nothing that interests me this month, either. Ah well, I did fairly well last year, and it's not as if I don't have plenty to read.

Found one that looks intriguing.

Some excellent choices this month.

I found three interesting non-fiction titles and requested the two most interesting.

I was debating not even looking at this moths list, but something told me to go look. I'm glad I did! The Drunken Botanist by Amy Stewart is a book I'll be buying if I don't win it. I loved the previous books by her that I've read, so I know I'll enjoy this one.

"Mighty slim pickings on the non-fiction side of things." I agree completely and felt the same last month. This will be two months in a row I'll pass from making requests. I fear a lot of bad/indifferent reviews published in the past by ER winners not particularly interested in or knowledgable of the subjects is starting to scare publishers off from participating with more NF titles.

I only request books that I think I'll enjoy reading, but if the book has issues, I'll kindly and fairly point them out.

I'm not going to sugar-coat a review just so we all can get more books offered, I don't think that is honest.

17: Me too! It's the only book I requested, and I have a bunch of her other books, so I am hopeful...

>18 mrsfiskeandco:

You may be right but that's because of two reasons:
- The books are not that great to start to start with
or
- The reviewers had no work requesting the book because they either don't read the subject or did not realize that it will be academic/popular...

>21 AnnieMod: The books are not that great to start to start with

This happens just as often with fiction. It surprises me that publishers would put poorly written books up for review; they have to know the book is substandard. Of course, they may be counting on people to post positive reviews out of gratitude for having received the book in the first place.

>22 RidgewayGirl:

If a publisher had published the book, they probably believe it is a good one... Otherwise, why spend the money and the effort?

But it is shocking how much trash get published every year, that I would agree on.

At least one of the books I got was badly described. Whether or not it was a good book, the description encouraged people to request (or buy) it who were not going to like it. If you do that you are bound to get bad reviews.

I think the publishers publish a book because they think they can sell it, not because they think it is a good book.

I was lucky to win Manifest Injustice last month, and didn't find anything I felt I *absolutely have* to read this month, so carry on without me. Good luck, and happy reading, y'all!

I was wrong. I didn't realize that The Burgess Boys was written by the author of Olive Kitteridge, and I loved that book. So I have to give this new one a shot, don't I?
