It's mid-March, and I am at almost 30% of my 100 books for 2013 reading goal and at 39% of my 75 book goal!

My ROOT goal, 30 unread books off my shelves, is also at 30%.

I'm not doing as well with my Book On My Shelves challenge nor my losing weight while reading, but the year is still young...

20Jim53
Mar 18, 2013, 9:08 pm

I've been trying to read for weight loss, but I think I'm going to have to go out and walk or something.

21SylviaC

Funny. the reading-for-weight-loss technique isn't working for me, either. You would think lifting all those heavy books would count for something...

It is! I have so enjoyed cataloging my books, not just those on my shelves, but those I have read, even from back in my childhood.

Now I'm working on making sure I have the exact edition listed that sits on my shelves...

...as you can see, I'm not much into television... ;)

I have way overdone the book acquisition so much I have stopped recording them on the ticker... ::shame::

I'm back at square one for the weight loss, but am determined to do better in May.

Congrats on being ahead of schedule! And sympathy on the weight loss... I'm making a new attempt in that area too starting this week. We'll both do better in May and beyond.

I like the ROOT idea--hadn't seen that before. I've been trying to make a dent in the pile I've collected but not read. But then I also keep getting all these great ideas from the reading threads here!

@Jim53 and @majkia, thanks for stopping by and your comments.

I believe most of us here at LT have not only an addiction to reading books, but an even greater addiction to acquiring them!!!

ROOT has been helping me get books off my shelves this year...why not try our 12 step/month program?

As far as the addiction to acquiring books...I don't know of anything that would help reduce that habit.

#29 As far as the addiction to acquiring books...I don't know of anything that would help reduce that habit.

Would any of us really want to know of any such thing?

I am five foot seven inches tall. I accept that for what it is. I am addicted to acquiring books. I accept that for what it is. The difficulty I have is that the people around me, including my bank manager, have difficulty accepting it.

Be strong, fuzzi. We are all here to support you.

At the end of this month, July, I should be close to being on track for my reading challenges for 2013:

*ROOT aka Read Our Own Tomes*
(http://www.librarything.com/topic/145807)
I have read 16 of the 30 I set for my challenge, and am BEHIND my challenge goal! I need to read at least one more ROOT book this week.

I'm not going to tell you how many books I've acquired in the last few months. Nunnayerbizness. Nyah! ;)

I'm doing better with the weight loss, having shed almost nine pounds since I started swimming twice a week, back in May. :)

I have read 66 of 100 I set for my challenge, and am at 66% of my challenge goal. I am right where I should be at on 8/31/13. Hopefully I'll read a couple more before this month ends, in order to stay ahead.

I have read 19 of the 30 I set for my challenge, and am at 63% of my challenge goal! I am slightly behind the 20 I should be at on 8/31/13. I just need to read one more before that date in order to be on target to read 30 in 2013.

Since May I have been working steadily on weight loss, and have passed the halfway mark! If I can continue this way at least until the holidays, I should be able to meet my first goal of losing 22 pounds!

I have read 27 of the 30 books I set for my challenge, and have almost reached my goal! Anticipating that I will read three ROOT books in the next couple weeks, I plan to then continue this challenge, to see how many of my Own Tomes I can Read by December 31st!

And I have lost 13.6 pounds since the end of May. I am hoping I can reach my 2013 goal by losing an additional 8.4 pounds by the end of the year...

Fuzzi, I have had your thread starred all year. I adopt the tiger approach, lurking in the grass until the right moment presents itself and then I pounce, I mean post.

Thanks!

Trying to pique my reading interest, I started a reread last night, and so far I am enjoying it: Dragon's Blood by Jane Yolen. I read it back in the early 1980's.

I'm on the same trajectory, fuzzi--lost thirty pounds between last November and this November, and plan to lose thirty more between now and next year. Good luck to both of us!

Congrats to both of you! I managed to lose thirty pounds earlier this year. Unfortunately have found half of them again :(

That's the problem with "losing" weight, @Jim53 ...someone has to "find" it again.

Way to go, Marissa! :)

Well, I'm not going to read all 16 of my challenge books this month: real life, time limitations plus a touch of malaise have plagued me so far.

I expect to finish my current impulse read The Case for the Real Jesus and another couple of books before the end of 2013. My numbers are lower than 2012, but still respectable, imo. :)

@fuzzi, as in your case, life has put itself in the way of my reading plans. Why can life not have the same priorities that we have?

66fuzzi
Dec 21, 2013, 6:33 pm

Life does have its priorities, as you have pointed out.

We strive, we make plans, we have a goal, but it doesn't always happen like we want. And that's okay, too.

Thanks for stopping by. :)

We are in wind-down for the Christmas break. Two more days at work and then a week off. :-)

To get ready for Christmas one of my daughters came over for the day and we cleaned and cleaned. Then we watched "Scrooged" to get into a seasonal mood. It worked.

I hope you have a great holiday break.
