Via Slate:
"Man, you guys are crack addicts. You really are obsessed with all this politics," Bush replied. At that point, Gregory said he had been called a lot of things in life, but not a crack addict. "OK, heroin addict,” Bush replied. “Is that better?”I like him already! Bush 2016!

The full exchange:
"Who's the hottest Florida politician right now? Is it you or Marco Rubio?" Gregory asked, referring to the Florida senator. "Who are we more likely to see in the White House?"
'"Man, you guys are crack addicts. You really are obsessed with all this politics," Bush replied. At that point, Gregory said he had been called a lot of things in life, but not a crack addict. "OK, heroin addict,” Bush replied. “Is that better?”'
Truly a terrific politician v. reporter question. Gregory should be questioning high school athletes

Does Jeb Bush have a chance? Will he have to renounce his father to get the nomination? Republicans seem intent on pretending George Bush never existed. Would we want a president willing to diss his dad in order to win? Is the Bush name an asset or a liability?

Wow. A terrible question and a terrible answer. Can we fire both of them?
5RickHarsch
I think the answer was brilliant.

They say that if he could simply become known by only his first name -- like "Aquanetta" or "Zsa Zsa" maybe -- that with his hispanic wife and ability to speak eh as well as his reputation as one of the "adult" Republicans (as opposed to say Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and Rick Perry for a few) he might "in like Flynn" in '16.
Well however the BUSH name holds him back!
You know in the 1960s the late writer-personality Gore Vidal decried the "Kennedy dynasty" that supposedly awaited "US" with Bobby, then Teddy, then even John-John. That never happened of course for various and maybe nefarious reasons but it's the BUSH family that has succeeded even moreso as a "dynasty" with TWO prezes (so far!) and now that one possible "waiting in the wings." (He's reputedly GHWB's favorite boy too, the padre not especially ever getting along with the lazier crazier George W.)
How did Kennedy charisma fail so huh while the boringest rose to the heights? Assassination true, faulty driving, unlucky in the air?...

Democracies are far from democratic, but the dynamics work against dynasties. The beast these presidents ride are far too wild for them to remain true to anything. Look at what Nehru wrought in India. Jeb Nehru (Rajiv) blown up by a Tamil Tiger for sending troops to Sri Lanka. Such a non-Nehru thing to do. Jawaharlal couldn't even get up the nerve to take back all of Kashmir.
8Michael_Welch
Yes -- Jack was really only an "adequate" president after all and as for the Bushes -- sigh! Most of our present troubles start with their presidencies. Jeb may be "strike three"?...

I can think of far too many examples of that not being true. The daughter of Park Chung-hee, the South Korean dictator, has just been democratically elected. In the U.S., John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams were both elected Presidents. FDR married the niece of Theodore Roosevelt (who was also a distant cousin). Bill Clinton (Governor and President) and wife Hilary Clinton (Senator and Secretary of State). But it is in the legislative level of the U.S. government that you see many dynasties.

There's a difference between a dynasty and a power elite. And two doth not make a dynasty.

In a public rest room recently I saw a graffita that read "Re-elect Hitler." Not "we" re-ELECTED "Hitler" re the BHO but a future tense of sorts.
Now if I was going about to re-elect the dead I think I would start with Franklin Roosevelt?...

12RickHarsch
Why not elect instead of re-elect: give Debs a shot.
13Michael_Welch
Figuratively speaking of course!...
14RickHarsch
No, even a reconstructed dead Debs would be welcome at this point.

The first zombie president. I bet he'll sweep the 18-21 year old demographic.
