When I blogged recently about a few fab finds, including a Nina Bawden title, Simon at Stuck-in-a-Book suggested we have a Bawden readalong, and as the only title we have in common is A Woman of my Age we did of course agree on this one!

I have done a short introductory post here:

http://kaggsysbookishramblings.wordpress.com/2013/05/04/a-virago-readalong-a-wom...

and I imagine Simon will do something on his blog too. If anyone wants to join in please do - it is a *slim* volume so hopefully won't distract too much from your current reading plans! The first couple of pages definitely suck you in and want to make you read more....

I just finished this and listed my copy on PBS. If anyone wants that copy, let me know and I'll pull it and mail it to you Monday

This was my first Bawden and I enjoyed it immensely. I was living in a German village, a new mother, and my friend sent it to me from London. As discussed a few months ago on this site when someone else was reading the book, I was also the same age as the 'ancient' heroine. Times have changed.

I've not yet read this one so count me in. Will be checking your blogs. Last night I began The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell so I may finish that before beginning A Woman of my Age. (or not **shrugs**)
Thanx for posting here as well as your blog Karen. I don't always find time to keep up. :-)

Right, Barbara. The heroine is 37 and on the fast slope to old age!

4/6: I lost sight of the age of 37 many years ago :((((((((

Then I was 5 years older. Worse and worse!

4: I read this last autumn, and we did have a bit of a discussion about the age thing then. I missed how old she actually was for most of the book but, with all the references to her decline, was imagining much older. Then right at the end of the book, the husband says something to the effect of her not getting any younger and after all she'd be forty before too long!

I did enjoy the book though. I found the writing style very absorbing.

12: I know what you mean Simon - I have finished it and am thinking out my review at the moment, but I keep changing how I feel about the book! I shall be very interested to hear what others think - will probably post my review on about 27th May unless you think otherwise?

My review is now up here:

I enjoyed the book very much for the writing, but had some reservations about the plot! Will be interested to hear what other people thought....!
