Since we're at the halfway point for the year it seems like a good time to check in: are you making good progress, needing to hurry things along, or have you already vaulted over the finish line?
I've only read 37 - better pick up the pace! There were a few things that slowed me down: I started working full-time in February, I spent a lot of time in April and May reading huge books that I then decided not to finish (one of the Wheel of Time novels and also Six Wives) so didn't put them on my list, and also have read a couple that weren't especially thick but demanded a thoughtful reading pace.

I am at 64 thus far but 7 of them are children's books & I am currently reading 4 of them. So I would put my actual count at 53 which is about where I want to be at this time of year. We shall see how the remainder of the year goes.
I am retired so that makes a difference though I do only read at night and those chunksters will kill you if you decide not to finish. I swear I have been working on Wolf Hall for about 3 months but I read a few pages and pick up something else to read and then go back to it. Almost done with it now but it is not in the count.
This was a pretty cool idea Erratic. Good luck with the rest of your reading.

I have 63 read so I'm ahead. But the next two months are going to be busy for me and I don't expect to finish early. I should actually finish on time.

I'm on 48, which isn't bad. A couple of chunksters (including current read) slowing me down on occasion, but a good reading year so far.
Also slowing down because I'm knitting for Wrap With Love this winter. 25x25cm squares, hand them in at the library, and then they get sewn together for charity blankets. I think I've spent more money on wool than I have on all other charities this year :P but it's a really fun one.

So far at 64 which is ahead of where I would expect. But I have not had much work this year and I have read a number of books that, although not particularly short, have been exciting and have made me read quickly!
6Tanya-dogearedcopy
So far I've read 75 books: 16,839 pages and listened to 241.50 hours of audio. At the end of June, I completed the 75 Books in 2013 Challenge here on LT and then decided to level up :-) I'm on pace to read about 140-150 books this year; BUT I suspect *something* will happen to slow me down; so probably only my usual 100 :-)
8Tanya-dogearedcopy
I challenged myself to read forty books over the summer and I did it! I read 40 books across an eclectic range of genres this summer, from lit-fic and classics to graphic novels and MG books and a smattering of a lot in-between. I *also* hit the 100 mark over the Labor Day week-end! I'm now shooting for 113 :-)
10Zefariath
Well, reading my 100th book at the moment (of the ones that I consider counting) , shall probably finish it today or tomorrow. A bit ahead for the year, for that, though looks impossible for me to hit 365 books for the year.
11judylou
I made 100 and I'm still reading. I seem to be flying through the books at the moment, but I don't have any new goals. I'll just see what happens!
12Tanya-dogearedcopy
Well, I hit my goal of 113 books so I'll level up to 125!
13LA12Hernandez
It's October and I'm at 78 books. Should make 100 by the end of the year.
14wookiebender
Ooh, I'm up to 75! I think I deserve cake for that achievement. :)
15clfisha
we all deserve cake. mmm cake.
I am reading my 84th but I am so far behind on LT and reviews!

#15> reviews!?!? Oh my, I am so far behind there too!
18rainpebble
I am currently on number 89 & I, like some others, am an entire month behind on my reviews. :-(
19clfisha
@16 :-)
17/18 This year has been terrible for reviews, I am constantly about 6 books (or more behind).

I hit 125. At this rate, it looks like I'll read about 140 books this year. Im not pushing, so we'll see...
And no, I haven't been reviewing so much. Maybe next year, I'll set a personal goal for review writing. :-)

In just completed # 95 & have my last five books yet to review. Will work on that over the weekend perhaps. Ahhh, what to pick up next.........
22Helenliz
I know I didn't start the year on LT, and and my thread's in the 75 book group, but that's only because I found that first - you took a little longer to locate. But today I finished book 100 for the year. Mission accomplished. I'll be aiming for more of the same next year.
23wookiebender
Congratulations on reaching 100, Helenliz! And next year you'll know where to find us. :)
24Tanya-dogearedcopy
Well, I hit 140, but only because I binged on a bunch of Romance novels, novellas and shorts after an attempt at reading a particularly disappointing dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood, MaddAddam. Anyway, I'll up my goal to 156, but also include a page count of 35,000 for the year. I'm currently at 32,718 :-)
26wookiebender
86! I don't think I'll be making 100 this year, but it's still been a fun reading year. Maybe not highbrow, but *fun*.
28rainpebble
105 thus far....
29jfetting
I think around 101 or 102. I made it, but won't be hitting higher numbers due to a massive and inexplicable reading slump.
31divinenanny
96. It's a busy few last weeks, but I'll make it!
32Tanya-dogearedcopy
Even though I had read virtually nothing in September and October, I went on a reading binge in November! Still, I'm stunned, after checking my list, to discover that I've read 161 titles so far and will finish off 5 more before the week is out! It's entirely possible (though I'm afraid that in mentioning it that I will have jinxed it) that I will have read a record 169 (13 x 13) by the year's end, though that was never a goal of mine!
33wookiebender
#29> Bother! Hope you get over that slump soon.
Congratulations to all who made their goal!
I'm up to 90. Doubt I'll squeeze in enough to get to 100, but you may see some creative accounting over on my thread later in the year. ;)

Just so I know, the 2014 group gets started about when? Sometime in the next 10 days, would be sensible, clearly. Yes, I am wishing my life away again.
35divinenanny
Made it!! Finished # 100 this morning :D
36jfetting
>35 divinenanny: congratulations!

Thank you! Being new round here I didn't want to do something stupidly wrong.
But I'm in. This year was the first time I've really logged how many books I've read, and initially I thought 100 was way out of reach, but I managed that with room to spare, so am keen to do it again.

167. I still have two to go, but that will be no problem after Christmas craziness settles down on Thursday.
43Erratic_Charmer
Still just 78 here! I don't think I'm actually going to make it to 100. Had a couple of large books that I started and then decided not to finish (Six Wives, something from the Wheel of Time series, The Unwanted Sound of Everything We Want) and that just put me right back. Will probably be comfortably over 80 by year's end though, which is something.
44wookiebender
#43> it is the journey, not the ending that counts. 80 good reads is better than 100 poor ones.
45rainpebble
True that, wookie.
I am in the midst if my 112th & 113th reads for the year. It's been a good year.

I've read 117, of which 99 are new to me. Can I make it 100 new titles for the year?
Probably not. >:-)
Probably not. >:-)

The numbers are in! By the end of 2013, I will have read 169 titles: read 38,482 pages and listened to 370 hours of audio. Impressive, but what does it mean? The numbers, after all, are arbitrary in value and don’t speak to quality or impact. So this: The numbers only mean that I read more than I did in 2012. That’s it!
49.Monkey.
>48 Tanya-dogearedcopy: Interesting, you've read more than double my amount of titles, but only ~1/3rd more pages (72, ~25.5k). Any idea what your avg book length is?
50Helenliz
48> I'm intrigued, did you get those stats via LT - if so, can you let me into the secret of where they're hidden?
51.Monkey.
>50 Helenliz: I don't believe so. You can use tags to mark the year read for an easy count on that directly on LT, along with tickers for book and page totals not so directly (all of which I do). I also have kept a text list of all my reading since 2009 with pages and such, regardless of the tickers, and so always know where I'm at that way, too.
52Tanya-dogearedcopy
>49 .Monkey.: Taking total number of pages and dividing by number of books read, the average length of a book read from my list is 298 pages. The average length of an audiobook that I've listened to is 7 hours, 52 minutes.
But the numbers are deceptive: Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane is really a novella (despite what the cover proclaims) coming in way under the 40,000 word standard for a full length novel! What would be a more fair assessment would be a word count for quantitative purposes!

Actually it's an avg of 228, not 298. I checked it since you made me curious and I checked mine, and your number seemed too close! lol (mine is 350)
54Tanya-dogearedcopy
> 53 No, it really is 298: 38,482 pages divided by 129 books read. The other forty titles were audio books :-)
