This is a couple months old, but I just read about it via a FB group

666 on tax form causes Christian worker to quit his job

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- A man said that he quit his job last week in order to save his soul.

Walter Slonopas, 52, resigned as a maintenance worker at Contech Casting LLC in Clarksville after his W-2 tax form was stamped with the number 666.

The Bible calls 666 the "number of the beast," and it's often used as a symbol of the devil. Slonopas said that after getting the W-2, he could either go to work or go to hell.

"If you accept that number, you sell your soul to the devil," he said.

I simply have no words. Or wyrds, for that matter.

USA Today is sort of mid-way between respectable and tabloid though, isn't it?

True, but this is just the sort of story they'd love, because those that think it's silly will be amused, and those that are convinced these are the End Times will believe.

Be nice if there was some additional corroboration, though.

My high school ID had the number D66685. What an omen that turned out to be.

Now his job is available for someone who needs work and has some sense.

But while in most New Testament manuscripts the number is rendered as 666, the variant 616 is found in critical editions of the Greek text, such as the Novum Testamentum Graece.
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_the_beast .

Does the Once-New Testament specify that they're using the decimal system?

Our local government public boadcaster is called 666 ABC Canberra and broadcasts on 666 on the AM dial (http://www.abc.net.au/canberra/). Occasionally they make lighthearted reference to being 'the radio station of the beast'. Very fortunate we are to have them too!
