Purplejelly's attempt at 75

Hi,

I'm Jo, i'm 39 and live in the UK, near London. I've been a LT member for a few years but this is my first attempt at any of the challenges. It's also my first attempt at posting a message, starting a thread, etc etc., so hopefully i'm doing this right and will get the hang of it eventually. The 75 book challenge sounds like a good excuse to plough through the pile of books that I have waiting to be read and then start buying some of the others that I have my eye on. Don't know if i'll manage the 75, but I won't know if I don't try...

Books read so far in 2014:
1. Shelter, Frances Greenslade
2. Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death and Hope in a Mumbai Slum, Katherine Boo
3. The 10PM Question, Kate De Goldi
4. Blue Monday, Nicci French
5. Big Brother, Lionel Shriver
6. The Sea Sisters, Lucy Clarke
7. The Secret Children, Alison McQueen
8. The Secret Life of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd
9. Bereft, Chris Womersley

Welcome to the 75ers Jo, this is my second year with the 75ers and last year read 80 books so you never know, you might just reach 75 for the year. By the way I am in the UK living in West Yorkshire.

Thanks John, it'll be the first time i've ever counted the number of books i've read, so it will be an interesting exercise whatever the result. Good luck with your second year!

Thanks Jo, have a look at Paul Cranswick's thread (s) and you will pick up others in the group and they will give you inspiration. Have a good weekend.

Welcome! You're doing just fine, thread-wise. :) As John mentioned, check out some other threads and jump in! Everybody's pretty friendly here.

You are off to a good start. At your current rate, you'll exceed 100, probably even 125.

Hi, Jo! Welcome to the group! Lori's right - at this rate, you'll have no problem reaching 75!

Thanks everyone. I was lucky enough to have a week off work in January which gave me a chance to get a good start. Not sure I'll be able to maintain that rate now I'm back at work but I'm going to give it a go.

I *need* to get round to some John Green soon - what did you think of The Fault in Our Stars?

Sorry scaifea, i've not been on here for ages so you've probably already read The Fault in Our Stars, and many more books, by now. I liked it, hope you did too! Looking at my updated list, I have no chance of reaching my 75 book target this year. I'll have to be satisfied with making the halfway point (hopefully) and give it another go in 2015!

22. Random Acts of Heroic Love, Danny Schienmann
23. I Capture the Castle, Dodie Smith
24. The Bonesetter's Daughter, Amy Tan
25. Disgrace, J.M. Coetzee
26. Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Louis de Bernieres
27. The Crucible, Arthur Miller
28. One Day, David Nicholls
29. The Goldfinch, Donna Tartt
30. Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time, Mark Adams
31. The Grass is Singing, Doris Lessing
32. The Bat: The First Harry Hole Case, Jo Nesbo
33. The Light Behind the Window, Lucinda Riley
34. The Yellow Birds, Kevin Powers
35. Necessary Lies, Diane Chamberlain

>13 purplejelly: Ha! I haven't, in fact, gotten round to it yet - too many books on the TBR list! It looks like you've been doing some more great reading in the meantime, though!
