GeezLouise (Rae) Reads 75 in 2014

My little diva queen, Biscotti.

Hi, my name is Rae, and this is the first time I have joined the 75ers group. I am 21, and I am looking forward to being part of this group. I will confess that I have been in a reading funk lately, so the only books I have read are for a British Lit course. I hope to change that, though, and start reading more again. I enjoy reading paranormal, mystery, graphic novels, and fantasy. Lately I have been more interested in doing other things instead of picking up a book, though I do have some waiting to be read.

Welcome to the 75 group Rae. My name is Roberta and I am from Houston, Texas. I love to hear your mom's stories about your family. I get a lot of book ideas from her.

I never really read a lot of fantasy until I joined this group. Now I am enjoying the genre. My favorite is mysteries!

Hi Rae- Welcome to the Mighty 75! Your life will never be the same. My name is Mark and I am a bit shy but I open up sometimes.
I also love graphic novels and will always take a recommendation. Have fun!

Welcome, Rae! Sorry to hear about the book funk (they do happen) but I'm glad you joined the mighty 75ers. We are a kind and nonjudgmental group. You'll find a good reading and chatting and chatting about reading home here.

Biscotti is pretty darn cute.

~Ellen

p.s. Mark is lying about being shy. Just so you know.

*baaaaaawwwwwww* Biscotti's ears need a big ol' schmoozle!

Hi Rae, I don't suppose you've ever hear of me, my name is Atticus O'Sullivan Richard, and I'm distant acquaintances with someone named Mamie who represents herself as your mother.

Have a wonderful time in the group!

Welcome, Rae! I am a rather infrequent lurker/poster on both you Mom and you sister's threads but once I saw you had set up your own thread, I wanted to stop by and welcome you to the group, and the conversational aspect of Librarything.

The group is a lot of fun - even if it causes your future reading list to expand out of control!

Hello Rae, I'm Susan and I live in London. I've seen lots of great photos of you and your family on your Mum's thread. Biscotti is a cutie! Welcome to the 75ers. I'm sure you'll soon have lot of great ideas to bring an end to that book funk.

Hi, Rae. This group is good fun and I think you will enjoy being a part of the conversations. My regular life name is Karen, I live near Seattle and along with reading my other hobbies include photography, and my two dogs. One is a Miniature Schnauzer (Greta Garbo) and the other is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Benny). The CKCS is sitting on my lap right now.

I have been in a reading funk, also, and it is due to some changes in vision and a need for new glasses. I am happy to say that I ordered some this week, and I should have them very soon!

Happy Reading, Rae.

Oh a huge and happy welcome to you! I have been fighting reading funks for a few months now. Someone here gave me some advice, but I can't remember who. It was good advice! Try a reread of something you love, or something YA or very light. I hate reading funks!

You're here! Welcome to the 75ers, Rae. I hope you enjoy spending time with our wacky group, and I know I will enjoy getting more recommendations for good books, because you can never have too many of those. I love mysteries, too, and I have learned to like a lot of fantasy thanks to the people I've met here on LT.

Oh, and I love the picture of Biscotti up top. She is adorable.

Yay! Glad you've got your thread up and running, Rae. I like all the types of books you do, except I don't read many paranormal books. My daughter (seasonsoflove) makes up for that by reading lots of them. She also likes those paranormal shows on cable tv, like Ghosthunters.

Biscotti is a cute one, he is, and I'm sure he's a good pal.

Welcome Rae! I happen to have that same Penguin Threads edition of Emma which I bought along with all the other Threads available. Such gorgeous covers eh?

My name is Ilana and I'm in Montreal aka Antarctica. I had a bit of a reading funk last month and found that rereading some old favourites and some of Jane Austen's hilarious juvenilia (Love and Freindship is a riot!) helped a lot.

Your Biscotti is a sweetheart! I have a pretty cute toy poodle mix called Coco. Unlike Biscotti, not the smartest dog ever, but a real sweetie nonetheless.

Hi Rae, welcome to the group! I live in San Diego but, since I'm retired, I travel a lot. I adore Emma and other Jane Austen books. I'm not much into fantasy or scifi instead I read a lot of modern fiction with some history and biography thrown in. I'm also trying to read all of the Pulitzer Prize winning fiction as well as at least one book from each Nobel Prize for Literature winner. I'm looking forward to having you join us.

Welcome to the 75 Group, Rae. My name is Judy and I live in Vancouver on the west coast of Canada. I feel like I already know you from the stories and pictures that your Mom has told us. Sorry to hear about the book funk, but I suspect as you travel around the site your attention will be grabbed by a few books and before you know it, you'll be back in the reading groove. Have fun here and as everyone has already said, we are a very welcoming group.

Hi Rae! Welcome to the group!! I haven't been around much lately so I've just seen on your mom's thread that you joined! I'm so happy to have you!

I live in Atlanta & have had the pleasure of meeting your mom in person. She shares such lovely pictures and stories of all of you that I feel like we've met already. :)

I read a good bit from YA, paranormal, and other lighter fantasy type books. I'll also read literary fiction & classics too. When I'm in a funk, I always choose something "light" and enjoyable. Roberta (luvamystery up there) and I call it "brain candy."

A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! I hope you have had a great day!

A belated Happy Birthday, Rae! Sounds like you had a great celebration day.

My daughter and I are big Agatha Christie fans. I think I take to Miss Marple more than she does. One of my favorites is the Tuesday Club Murders, aka The Thirteen Problems, in which Miss Marple solves a series of mysteries among a bunch of skeptics who can't believe this sweet old lady knows what she's talking about.

I love the old Hercule Poirot movies. Evil Under the Sun is my favorite one. I love Maggie Smith and Diana Riggs trying to outdo each other. I do love David Suchet in the Poirot series and he does the audio books. Do you like to listen to audio books? He is perfect as Poirot on audio.

Congratulations on all the wonderful birthday gifts. The Macbook Air sounds wonderful. I think the best part is that you got to spend time with your family and do the things you love the most.

Missed your birthday, Rae, as I have seemingly missed so many things about the group recently. Heck I am only a week late and I hope the cake is still not stale.

Lovely to see another of that dashing band of Pecan Paradisios joining our little troupe. I am sure that you will add just as much colour, warmth, intelligence and charm to it as do your Mom and Abby.

Read what appeared to be a new introductions page at the beginning of your thread and I have to say that there were one or two fibs up there. Mark for example cannot be described as shy but he is one of the good guys here.

I have my own little place in the group trying to keep the flag flying for Malaysia and its topical tropical climes.......(hint, hint) try to stop by if you have a moment. xx

>67 mckait: Yeah I was so shocked when I opened the present and saw what it was. I wasn't expecting to get a laptop at all but it was a great surprise.

>68 luvamystery65: Thank you Roberta. I have listened to audio books before but find that if one of the characters has an accent I start talking like them. One time my Dad, Birdy, Dan, and I went up to Minnesota, and on the way up we played one of the Harry Potter books. Then the entire time we stayed up there I was talking with a really bad British accent, I can't do a British accent. I drove the guys crazy and couldn't stop because I had listened to most of the book it was really horrible. I will check it out though maybe if I listen to it a little bit at a time I won't start talking like any of the characters.

>68 luvamystery65: & >75 GeezLouise: I tend to mimic accents after I've listened to them a while too, Rae. After my senior trip to London when I was in high school, I came back with a pretty bad English accent or two. I had one "proper" British & one Cockney sounding one. We met some other high school students who taught us some basic sounds. I annoyed the crap out of my family for years after that. :)

>80 mckait: I love how thin and light my new laptop is Kath, I am really enjoying the long battery life. Since the laptop I used before didn't have a very long one being so old. I like how it gives the percentage of battery left so that you know when you are getting low and how much is left. It is easy to use and perfect for my needs which is basically storing documents. I have watched stuff from iTunes on here and it was great, though being really thin you can't play dvds or cds. It is a fantastic laptop altogether though and really nice to work on. I hope this helps you Kath, have a great week.

>81 PaulCranswick: Why hello Paul. My weekend was fabulous with Toni and her mom here Friday and Saturday, and my Sunday was a lazy one filled with relaxation and watching several episodes of NCIS Los Angeles. It went by too quickly for me, but I enjoyed seeing Toni and her mom. Last week was busy cleaning the house and getting things ready for guests. Mercy seems to be doing fine and keeps looking for her cat tree, but she can't have it back for a while. She keeps trying to play with the dogs, but we won't let her, other than that she is up to her usual mayhem.

Abby and I got in the pool today and it was nice to swim for a while, and it made me think about all of you guys who are still getting cold weather. I hope spring comes very soon for you, so you can enjoy warm sunny days too. I think later in the week we are supposed to get rain but for now I will enjoy the sunshine.

I'm enjoying catching up on your thread, Rae. Swimming in the pool - woo, that sounds good. We're at least getting up to the 50s today. Everything in the north seems about a month behind; this still feels like March, not April, for us.

Amazon/Kindle had a bunch of Agatha Christies on sale like Body in the Library, so my wife picked those up. Our daughter and I have read just about every one of her books over the years. Actually, she (seasonsoflove) has read every one, and I'm close if not there. I did come across one of hers in the last year I hadn't read, so there may be another straggler out there somewhere. Did you finish Death on the Nile, or are you still reading it?

Adding my welcome to all the rest. I try to keep up with your mother's thread but I'm not always successful at that. I love mysteries, too, and Agatha Christie is one of my favorite authors. I read most of them years ago, and now I'm trying to re-read them in publication order. Instead of reading a paper copy, I'm listening to the audio version downloaded from the public library. Death on the Nile is one of my favorites, too.

Emma is one of my favorite books. I'm following Emma Approved, a modern retelling of Emma presented in a series of short video blogs.

Your Biscotti looks like a sweet girl. I adopted a Shih Tzu mix from the Humane Society a few months ago. I named him Adrian after my favorite TV detective, Adrian Monk. It's been fun following the other recent pet adoptions in the 75ers group, including @tymfos's Sig and your family's Mercy.

I know I missed a lot and won't be able to catch up completely but I did want to mention that Biscotti is a very sweet doggie. >106 rosalita: Julia is back! Woo Hoo! I have really missed you, and I am glad you feeling better again. I agree with you Julia.

I have started reading the Mercy Thompson serious at the persistent urging of my Mom. I would just like to state for the record that you were right Mom. I do love these books, and I should have started them when you first suggested them to me. You were so totally right, and I was crazy for not reading them sooner. I have already read the first two books, and I am currently reading the third one. They are so good I have trouble putting them down and doing other things. Perhaps tomorrow I will spend the entire day reading them. I read the first two in two days a piece and can't wait to see what happens next. As my mom so accurately put it I am addicted to reading them. Thanks again for the fantastic book recommendation Mom I might have missed out on an awesome serious otherwise and for being so persistent.

Harry Potter is my great love though. And anyone who hasn't yet read the Bone series needs to do so immediately!

We are replacing the old one as it is a little shaky its looking good so far. The rest of the ladies hung out in the pool, and Abby and Sara went swimming too. Mom read and Dan spent his day inside then got ready and went to the prom last night. I stayed up late reading a graphic novel, and the three of us girls watched Pretty Little Liars. Not sure what to think about that show, but all in all it was a great day. Today has been lazy, and it sounds like half the gang is going to some fun day at a church at four. I will be staying home and lazing about, maybe get in the pool as it seems like after Monday it will rain the rest of the week. Hope your weekend is going great too Mark.

Here's my best shot

Iron Druid
Mercy Thompson
Harry Potter
Hunger Games
Parasol Protectorate
Sookie Stackhouse

Just One Damned Thing After Another

> 171 But Tina, it's such a little dog! How can you say that :) easy peasy, I'm sure....Now bething my Dunkers.. all 75 pounds of him is a challenge, in fact just lifting up into the laundry tub is a challenge. OUCH!

Rae, I'm glad to hear that there has been some sunshine somewhere.. it gives me hope that it will find its way here, maybe even today? I can dream :)

>172 mckait: Hey Kath, great to see you here. I would defiantly take bathing my ten pound dog over a 75 pound one any day. It is supposed to be in the high 80's all week, but I will try to send some of our warm sunny weather your way. Summer will reach you guys eventually I am sure of it. Have a lovely day Kath.

Looks like your weather is catching up ours here Rae. Enjoy, if possible.
I'll be in Jakarta tomorrow for literally a one night flying visit. Two meetings with Korean company guys and then back on Friday morning (in time for a mini splurge perhaps).

>204 TinaV95: Thank you Tina, and the same to you.

>205 wilkiec: Hi Diana! I do spend time studying but I also find plenty of time to relax and I did go swimming yesterday. It was wonderful the water was just right and the sun was warm so it felt so good to swim for a while.

>206 mckait: Hello Kath, I am starting the Book Thief today glad to hear you liked it. I didn't know there was a movie, I don't know if I will watch it or not. Yesterday was hot, and I helped my dad with the deck. Later after lunch I went swimming for a while so nice to take a break and with the humidity yesterday it felt heavenly. I plan to hit the books and then start the Book Thief and maybe enjoy the pool and relax later for sure. It was a busy weekend helping my dad and getting the areas done not to mention the heat I think Sunday was the worst. Hope you have a great week Kath.

>207 msf59: thank you for stopping by Mark, with so many people having enjoyed The Book Thief I am sure I will enjoy it. I have read a lot of books based in the period of time and enjoyed them.
