I've just added a message on the 'List Five Books Parlour Game' at
https://www.librarything.com/topic/131436#5014718
including touchstoning the book
Farthest north : being the record of a voyage of exploration of the ship Fram 1893-96 and of a fifteen months' sleigh journey by Fridtjof Nansen
As here, the touchstone came up correct in the column on the right-hand side, and in the preview, but not in the posted message. I'm guessing the length of the title may be a factor. For comparison, here's the short version:
Farthest north

Confirmed. See testing at http://www.librarything.com/topic/186750
The threshold is between 118 and 125 characters. My guess is that it is at 120, since back in the mists of time that was the maximum length permitted for the title field.

And if someone wants a really long title for testing the fix, try:
The innocents abroad, or, The new pilgrim's progress: Being some account of the steamship Quaker City's pleasure excursion to Europe and the Holy Land; with descriptions of countries, nations, incidents, and adventures as they appeared to the author

Acknowledged!
>1 Cynfelyn: This is sort of a work-around until it gets fixed, but you could try the "force method" of using Touchstones to link to the correct work number, although you'll need to abbreviate the title so the link will work. Let me know if you've got questions (you can message my profile or email me at info@librarything.com).

>6 kristilabrie: Thank you. I hadn't heard of forcing touchstones before.
461028::Farthest north : being the record of a voyage of exploration of the ship Fram 1893-96 and of a fifteen months' sleigh journey by Fridtjof Nansen (125 characters). There are square brackets around this, honest.
Well, it seems to work in the "Touchstones" column to the right of the "Add a message" box, and in the preview box.
By the way, the example given of forcing a touchstone, The Odyssey, should be single square brackets, The Odyssey, for a title rather than for an author.
Let's see if it works in the posted message, ...
Edited to answer my own question, and to cut down the title:
No.
461028::Farthest north : being the record of a voyage of exploration of the ship Fram 1893-96 and of a fifteen months' sleigh (117 characters). There are also square brackets around this.

>2 lorax: Forcing a touchstone stops working somewhere between 110 and 117 characters, which is less than the 118-125 you give for normal touchstones. Lesson learnt: forcing may be good for some things, but long titles isn't one of them!

I think @kristilabrie is suggesting forcing the shortened title. And it's unsurprising that it stops earlier, since you're using some of the 120 characters for the work number.

correct, forcing a touchstone will get you to at least link to the work, but you'll need to use an abbreviated title. hopefully this can get fixed soon!

Okay, fixed. It was a 128-character limit. It's 512 now. If your book has a title longer than 512 characters, lose some :)
Note: It's fixed going forward. Past truncated titles will not be fixed.
