Just heard a commentator liken the invitation made by Boehner to Netanyhau to the Democratically controlled congress inviting the President of France to speak right before the war in the Middle East.
Kerry is in negotiations with Iran regarding ISIS and half our government is discussing how to best Iran.
WTF ?? Makes one wonder how concerned our current Republican body really is in our national security, especially if it interferes with "besting" Obama in some way shape or form. Seriously....Obama must be more of a threat than ISIS. In fact I am surprised I haven't heard that Obama was secretly behind ISIS.....the rumor must be out there.
United we stand divided we fall.

Just happen to catch parts of the Netanyhau's speech before our USA congress. The most political "non political" speech I have ever seen. He had the tea baggers and conservative Republicans jumping up and down, rolling over and doing all sorts of tricks.
Essentially he wants more restraints/embargoes on Iran while Obama's negotiators have intimated that many countries are very stressed by the restrictions on trade they have placed on Iran and if no agreements are reached they may pull out or ease the restraints unilaterally.

I think I saw a few of them drooling.
Did Netanyhau forget that he encouraged the Iraq war which left another nation open to be gobbled up by Iran ?
What do you suppose his plan was in regards to Iran ? Other than to blow it off the map ?
Our stupid Congress is an embarrassment. They actively clapped and hooted when it was suggested that our current dealings with Iran should not be valid. This has to be a historical first. Kerry is busy trying to accomplish something and half our lawmakers are not only publically opposing it they are using leaders from other countries. And there is no deal yet....they don't even know what they are clapping against. (well, we know and it has nothing to do with Iran's nuclear capabilities) What is their plan. Do they have one or is this another example of "putting that uppity black man in his place" ?
He said nothing about ISIS....not that I heard. Are we not dealing with Iran, in part, so has to have cooperation with stopping groups like ISIS ? What does the Right want to do about ISIS ? Other than blow them off the map ?
What happens if we all walk away ? Boneheads !

Chris Matthews just said it the best. Today was unprecedented in that a foreign leader was invited unto the floor of our congress to wrest power away from our President. He posed the question : "What other country would allow a leader of another country to come in and do something like this ?"
What a group of dopes......well, as I was discussing on another thread. Karma is a bitch. They will see how far it gets them. They may make waves but they will not create the cohesiveness that is needed for progress. In anything for that matter.

On the other hand, the US is a country that has exceeded its supposed authority grotesquely, in particular I'm thinking of the odd example of having a plane refused over-flight priveledges while its head of state was on board and so having it forced to land where it could be searched for a US fugitive. So yes, the US behaves quite strangely at home and abroad, sort of like Israel, another nation immune to international norms and laws.

The Republicans were orgasmic in the presence of a foreign leader who shares their "bombs away" worldview. Mr Putin is next on Speaker Boehner's invite list.
In a day or so the same Republicans will submit to the POTUS's armbar over DHS funding.

Here's my dilemma:
I don't like American politicians from either major party--and by the by the majority of them kowtow to the Israeli govt. I think Obama is weak and his administration has fallen far short of its promises. Bush as POTUS was a retard and still is and if there is a devil in this world--he looks just like Dick Cheney.
I don't like Israel or Netanyahu. I think he's a war monger and his govt. has done more to create and spread Jihadism than anything I can think of--even including our own unprovoked invasion of Iraq.
I think that people that join terrorist groups knowing those groups chop people's heads off or burn them alive or just outright murder people for expressing contrary opinions and/or believing in other religions or not believing in any religion at all don't deserve to live--at least not on this planet.
As far as I'm concerned all the above can drop dead.

Here is my dilemma :
We are stuck with the idiots we vote for. Half of whom can not recognize or don't much care what it is they are supporting.
Israel is a "religious" state. A country that wants to do to Iran exactly what Iran wants to do to the West. I see very little difference between the two. We went to war under the guise of spreading democracy and freedom and then invite Netanyahu to speak about eliminating an entire country. The same party did both by the way. It makes no sense what so ever.
Kerry is at a summit trying to balance the impossible. Obama has a job in which he has constantly been undermined and ham strung by his own Congress and the Republican's are so full of hate (Obama hate ? Black hate ? They are different hate ? I doesn't really matter) they will clap and drool over the idea of eliminating the East. While ISIS and many terrorist groups are shouting and fist pumping over death to the West, we do hold the power to eliminate them......how would we feel if it were reversed. What the heck ? We are NO different. At least half of this country isn't.
"I think that people that join terrorist groups knowing those groups chop people's heads off or burn them alive or just outright murder people for expressing contrary opinions and/or believing in other religions or not believing in any religion at all don't deserve to live--at least not on this planet."
Agree....but we do not have to do any of the things terrorist groups do to incite terror.....we have the "Red Button" and we have the ability to eliminate them. And they know it. We certainly do not want them to have a "Red Button" Why would the Middle East feel at all reassured about our intentions when we elect someone like Bush and Cheney TWICE. Or have a leader of another country speak on our Congressional floor to try and sway our policies in the Middle East.
It is rather sickening.

#8--it's not really my intention to hijack your thread but really I have no sympathy for any of the sides in this whole thing. I'm really sick and tired how the religious manias of so many assholes across the global spectrum inform our politics and the world's geopolitics. It's all fucking guesswork what happens to a person after he expires--it's beyond insane to be using 2000 year old texts as singular manuals of how to live your life today. To get so hepped up over the bible/koran/whatever is fucking laughable. To murder people over this same shit is just fucked up. And the world leaders here just exploit these situations for their own fucking benefit and that includes Bush/Cheney and Obama--got to keep their fucking bases happy instead of ever speaking the truth to them.

#13--The republicans know they are going to get a % of the women's vote and a % of the hispanic vote--it won't be as much as the democrats but they're counting on it being at least somewhat competitive for the women's vote and they're going to exploit the Cuba thing to try to score more of the Hispanic vote next time around--hoping to take Florida back. Would that it would be so that we'd opened up the door to Cuba. I really don't understand our foreign policy. It's absolutely irrational that the cold war with Russia has been over for umpteen amount of years (though there are plenty on the right that are nostalgic to start if all up again) but we're still at war with this tiny Caribbean island. Our leaders unfortunately rather have an irrational foreign policy that appeals to the nightmarish phobias of the stupidest part of our electorate than to do what they must know is best. If people haven't noticed the Republicans spend a lot of time demonizing other countries/peoples. It's unfortunate that so many democrats then start believing the same crap lending it more credence.
Anyway the republicans already know they are not going to get anything of the black and gay vote--and they don't really care apart from doing everything at all possible to suppress the black vote.

I once remarked during a Bible study that there were probably a lot of surprised people in hell. The group leader remarked that there were probably also just as many surprised people in heaven.
My husband (conservative pastor) and I (self-proclaimed tree-hugging liberal) can read the same scripture passages, and come to two entirely opposite interpretations. I maintain that Jesus was a Democrat, which he scoffs at. Whatever. I've mostly given up trying to have any kind of conversation with him on any issue more important than what color to paint the bathroom.

I know years earlier the consensus of opinion was if Iran started a nuke bomb facility despite any protests or warnings we just congratulate Israel after they blow it up. I think this was in Iran's post revolution "Death to America" "Drive Israelis into the sea" themed bi weekly parade phase.

FWIW I see Iran kind of like Cuba of the 70's/80's.The main difference being Shiite Muslim ideologues (Iran) as opposed to Marxist (Cuba) ones. Iran's not really any kind of real threat to the USA (neither was Cuba) or the USA's interests--though here I should point out when I say USA or USA interests I'm not really talking about ordinary citizens but political and business interests masquerading for the common interests of the American public at large. Iran has become kind of a boogeyman that our politicos use through the media to spread the notion that their particular country is run by evil people. Are they evil?--well they're probably not very nice (but how nice are ours?) and I don't think I'd ever want to live in such a country but no one's asking me to--so why should I care whether their leaders are nice guys or not? If I were to guess though even they are not as bad as our puppet the Shah was.
As far as the issue of nuclear power/weapons. We have all that. Israel does as well. So? We're supposed to believe that ours are in responsible hands--that their's won't be. As far as I'm concerned--it's a fucking joke. I don't like their religion heavy government at all but I don't trust the people running things here either....and why won't Israel shut down their nuclear power plants or deactivate their nuclear weapons? Yet.... they think they have the right to tell others. Netanyahu comes here and uses our congress as his bully pulpit--and not too many see a problem with that.

Here is a great reaction to the "idiots of 47" who sent the letter to Iran {both of the numbskull senators from my state signed it}. A web site petition to have them prosecuted.
Quote from the site:
"On March 9th, 2015, forty-seven United States Senators committed a treasonous offense when they decided to violate the Logan Act, a 1799 law which forbids unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments. Violation of the Logan Act is a felony, punishable under federal law with imprisonment of up to three years.
At a time when the United States government is attempting to reach a potential nuclear agreement with the Iranian government, 47 Senators saw fit to instead issue a condescending letter to the Iranian government stating that any agreement brokered by our President would not be upheld once the president leaves office.
This is a clear violation of federal law. In attempting to undermine our own nation, these 47 senators have committed treason."

Unfortunately so many domestic and foreign laws have been violated by US presidents, senators, and congressmen since the Nixon outbreath of relief, none stand out to be prosecuted.
Obama, drone-murderer, but otherwise good citizen, perhaps, handled this particular lunacy quite well as far as I could see, simply chuckling at them instead of blurting outrage. That was probably the most effective he could have done.
I did sign a web-petition, though, maybe this same one.

The "mideast war" has become such a mess that any sort of silliness seems to hardly matter.
Netanyahu wins in Israel promising to "never" support a Palestinian state (what "war"? the one that NEVER ends?) while shi'ite militias, with their Iranian "advisers," ravage sunni villages "liberated" from ISIS; while Assad starves his country into submission and Libya becomes the north African version of "the wild west," along with Boko Haram, both swearing allegiance to "the caliphate."
Makes "the crusades" seem "explicable"...

Finally an Israeli leader has come out with the equivalent of 'we will never recognize Israel.'
As for the rest, it makes the same sense as the Crusades, almost precisely.

36RickHarsch
I respect their right to exist only because it is useless to try to undo past crimes. So, yes, they bludgeoned their way into a right to exist. But they never had a 'right' to abuse the locals (turn of the century, Palestine was 7% Jew); and it is also disgusting to me that the Zionist struggle is so often portrayed as a fight against the British as well, when the British handed them the place, systematically, from just after WWI on. The only struggle was a matter of time and form.
