Finished Half a War by Joe Abercrombie. Overall, I liked the trilogy.

Started The Awakened Kingdom by N. K. Jemison.

>1 seitherin: I created an August thread the same moment you did, oh well. Good to hear the Shattered Sea trilogy is good, I've only read Half a King but I enjoyed, I'll have to get my hands on the other two books.

I'm currently in Ankh-Morpork following the Men at Arms.

I'm in Dar Kush in the alt history of Lion's Blood, which was a SantaThing recommendation that didn't quite make the cut. Young Irish slave Aidan and mischievous young master Kai are getting up to shenanigans.

I'm taking a short break from fantasy, but I recently finished Wintersmith. I'm both excited and scared to start I Shall Wear Midnight. (I'm running out of new-to-me-Pratchetts. T_T)

I'm going to try reading A Spell of Empire. I was a huge fan of Michael Scott Rohan's "Winter of the World" trilogy and this is all else I've found by him in the used bookshops I frequent, although I just noticed the follow-up Winter books are now available for ereader.

I'm Chicago, USA, end of the 1920' to early 30', in the middle of the Prohibition and Al Capone era, following the steps of a Dwarf (as in a Dwarf from a fantasy world, not a short human as everyone believes him to be to his unending annoyance) sleuth as he investigates the Case of the Singing Sword.

The mix of noir with a few interloping fantasy elements works quite well so far.

>17 Cecrow: oooooh I might have to look for those ebooks - I borrowed the Winter of the World at university and remember it being great!

I'm currently in Cornwall with a little girl called Sue and Mr R. Dragon as he blows Green Smoke. Revisiting a childhood favourite :)

While I'm still reading Legends, I'm taking a quick trip back to Ashford Meadow take in the graphic novel version of The Hedge Knight.

>20 mattries37315:, that anthology was excellent, Legends II is also very good. I'm currently reading Warriors, which contains the third Dunk & Egg story. It doesn't focus on established worlds and is wider in genre, so it doesn't reach Legends quality, but still has several highlights.

>21 Cecrow:,I've really enjoyed the majority of the stories in Legends,

I also have the other two Dunk & Egg story but I opted for the volume editions instead of the whole anthologies: Legends II: Dragon, Sword, and King and Warriors 1. I also have The Sworn Sword graphic novel as well. I've read the Dunk & Egg stories already but didn't set eyes on the other stories in the volume the first time I read them, I'm going back to them as part of a re-read of the whole "A Song of Ice and Fire" written works and am reading the other stories along the way as well.

Dipped a bit into YA for a couple quick reads: pseudo-Russia (or more of a general fantasy land with some Russian flavoring, more like) with Shadow and Bone, and a detour to science-fiction space station in Tin Star, then finally made a return visit to lots and lots of desert in Stormlord Rising, which I've been wanting to get back to for ages. I loved the first book in the series like whoa, and this one didn't disappoint, either.

I've been having a hard time with Moving Pictures, which is very unusual for a Pratchett book for me. So I'm switching gears and checking out Silicone Valley in Angelfall.

Almost finished Daughter of Smoke and Bone by laini taylor
My local book shop girl (21 yo), whose advice I have always respected wrt. fantasy, did warn me that it was a type of romance.
Not exactly my type of book but I did buy the next in the series.

I'm in the Glass Desert and its outskirts with armies marching to Kolanse, about 2/3 of the way through The Crippled God by Steven Erikson.

Let me know if I should give it another try!

Though there are more in the same universe to try, both by Erikson and his colleague Esslemont, but the latter's books seem to have met more mixed reviews.

I just finish reading Legend by David Gemmell. This was the first time I read a book by Gemmell and frankly I was not impressed at first. The book seemed too juvenile and the language too modern for my taste at first but I hung in for the first 100 pages to be fair and I found myself liking the characters and story line... lots of minor twists to the plot. Though not a literary masterpiece I will read more of him. I am not a great fantasy reader in the first case but this was his first book apparently, we shall see if he improves his prose with time. :)

>34 Lynxear: >35 Jarandel: I've read almost all of David Gemmell's books, and generally speaking, I liked them. The first Gemmell I read was Knights of Dark Reknown. I liked it well enough to hunt down more of his books.

>35 Jarandel: >36 seitherin: As I said in my review I did not like the writing in its quality but I did like how he juggled the characters and allowed them to grow. Waylander will probably be my next read as it is chronologically the first in the series. I will reserve further judgement til then... what I have read so far leads me to read another by Gemmell

Finally getting around to trying Inda, and enjoying it somewhat more than I did Crown Duel, I think. Getting the more detailed world-building in this one makes the world feel richer and more distinct than it did in that other read, where there were a handful of magical things and a sense of Celtic-ish tribes, but not as much depth.
