I'm sorry if this is the wrong spot for this. I'm note sure where else to ask.
I want to remove my profile and need someone to please help me. I've looked but I'm still new and can't figure it out.

If someone would please send me a private msg with instructions on how I can delete my author profile and remove my books (as in authored by me, not reading list) from the site. I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you

You cannot - if someone had cataloged your book, you as the author cannot ask for that book to be removed from the site.

You can remove your association between your reader's account and the author account if so you choose but you cannot remove the author's page or the books from it.

To remove your member profile go to the profile and click on 'edit profile and account' at the upper right. Then near the bottom of the left hand menu 'change or delete'. You will find the chance to delete your account. This will only affect your member profile and the book copies you have entered. As AnnieMod says, the author page and copies others have entered will remain.

Even if I am the one who cataloged them?

Your copies will be gone, but not those copies that others have entered.

If you cataloged every single copy of them, you can delete them from your catalog/your books and they will disappear. Looking at your author profile though, some other people did catalog some of your books. So these copies will remain.

thank you for the answers. Not what I was hoping for, but thank you for your time.

>7 Princess_so: Just to explain further, this is a site and community for readers to catalog their reading and to discuss books. Imagine how quickly this site would be failing its purpose if an author could remove his/her books from members' catalogs.

>7 Princess_so:

Why do you want to remove them from the site? They are just records of the books, not the books themselves. So it is a bit weird to me an author not to want people to talk about their books...

How bad does it have to be to distance yourself from your own writing?

Hey, AnnieMod,
you're not wrong for thinking that and I would absolutely LOVE to meet readers and talk about books, especially to share mine and my brother's. It's why we (my twin and I) came here, We were very excited about it too. And right away met a couple of new people. But sadly the experience turned rotten very quickly and we've been getting flagged on everything, over and over. I wasn't expecting this. It's o fun signing on and finding my photo has been flagged, a review has been flagged, the person hwo sent friend request yesterday got flagged. I feel like I am on a firing line. :( I'm not into this kind of thing. I'm all for being pro-stuff and promoting what I love, not about being anti-stuff.

I'm an introvert as it is anyways. I'll just go back to my quiet writing corner. It has hot chocolate. :D

You probably got off on the wrong foot by promoting your books in the wrong places.

I didnt do any promotions at all. I wasnt even aware that was possible here. All I had done was load the books up and was putting in the details to make sure they were all correct and not duplicated. I hadnt even joined or commented in a single group or forum yet. (until this)

So why don't you just step back and let the dust settle a bit? Sounds like things started on the wrong foot - being it because you were more interested in promoting than talking or any other reason. Misunderstandings happen and if that truly is one of those cases, things will even out. :)

For the friends requests - there is a lot of bots/people that make accounts and send friend requests just for the hell of it and so they can spam. If you got caught into getting one of those friend requests, you should actually be happy that this person got flagged.

Images and so on - there are rules on what is allowed. If you are not an institution, you cannot have a logo as an author picture. Nothing personal - this is just how the site operates. Other sites may have other rules but here it is either a picture of the author or nothing. :)

So maybe look around, learn some more about the site and the community and have fun? :)

I know all about being an introvert. So no worries. Do not give up on LT though, add more of the books you are reading and participate in discussions that are not only about your books - and maybe, just maybe you will find the magic of this place :)

>11 Princess_so: I don't understand why you were flagged. Everything looks OK to me. The only possible reason is that you rated and reviewed your own work. I think we really do need to fix this so that authors can review their own books without being flagged. The intent is to have those reviews marked so that everyone else know the author is rating their own work. Lots of authors go away mad, which is a shame. It's a sad misunderstanding.

I echo what AnnieMod says: look around a bit and join in some conversations that interest you. As you become more familiar with the site you might enjoy it. Maybe go here: https://www.librarything.com/groups/hobnobwithauthors

to ask questions about what has happened to you and how to avoid it.

Best wishes,

k4k

>15 krazy4katz:

The flags were on author pics that did not comply with the guidelines. They were not on the uploader's profile.

Just so everyone is clear, this person uploaded photos that are not allowed as author photos, multiple times, creating sockpuppets and getting FB friends to join as well in an attempt to counter the flags against the non-compliant photos. When they didn't like that these photos kept being flagged off, they accused us LTers of being trolls and ugly behavior and saying all we do is sit here being nasty to other people, because we actually maintain the info as best we can on this site. I was called a "Nazi" because I dared reply to their little rant of a "caption" on one of said photos, explaining how things work here.

If they want to flounce off like a child, let them. If they want to behave like an adult and follow the rules on the site, then there's no issue of flags to deal with.

>15 krazy4katz: If people are flagging author reviews, you should bring it up somewhere so they can be counter-flagged. While it is in bad taste, so long as it's a real review and not a copy of the book blurb or of a review published by someone else, then they are not breaking the ToS and flagging it is wrong.
