Hey all!
I adore the Overdrive audiobook app for libraries. I'm practically living on it. But I want an audiobook app where I can buy audiobooks, download them when I want them, delete them when done, and not have to wait in queues for weeks on end. That being said I don't want a subscription-based audiobook app like Audible (audible claims you can buy individual titles, but I haven't found a way to do this or even create an account without having to pay the monthly subscription - I'm just sick of all their BS). Suggestions? Every recommended app I've been able to find so far has been subscription-based.

>1 benuathanasia: I'm sorry you are not happy with Audible, but I have a profile there and can purchase books, keep them in my library there, etc. and I don't pay a monthly fee. I also don't get the discounted prices that members get or the 1 "credit" a month for a "free" book, but I don't need that stuff at the moment. Anyway, I just told them I didn't want to be a member.

I've seen an audiobook section on iTunes.

>1 benuathanasia: Further to >3 -Eva-: I've bought audiobooks on iTunes with no problems - the ones I've tried downloaded and played fine - I paid for them individually.

I have a very basic Audible subscription for about $10 per year. I get no credits, but I can buy their books at member rates, and can get the Daily Deals and sales.

I completely forgot iTunes sells books...

How are you people joining Audible without subscribing? Last time I tried them, once I cancelled the subscription, it locked me out of my account (I could no longer access anything).

I use the whispersync feature of my kindle to listen to audio books. I think they come from audible but I don't have a subscription there and I buy them through my kindle. There is an option to upgrade to audio for ebooks that use this feature. I mostly listen to classics this way, which can be very inexpensive or even free.

ETA I use the kindle app on my phone for listening.

>6 benuathanasia: I was a subscriber, when I had a job I had to commute to, then I cancelled the subscription. Had trouble getting back into my account so I called the help line and they helped me back in. They assured me that my books were still available and I could still shop there, just no discounts.

>5 SylviaC: I used to have that, but I don't think it is available anymore. I couldn't find it anyway.

>8 MrsLee: It is, they just don't want people to use it, they want all your $$$, so they hide it, and make you contact them directly in order to get it.

>8 MrsLee: >9 .Monkey.: It came up as an option for me when I was cancelling my regular subscription. It met my needs perfectly, so I took it.

This thread reminded me that I need a new audiobook. The free Kindle book with audio this month is The Secret Garden. I find the books that have voice narration here.

>11 sturlington: In Canada, I only seem to be able to access Whispersync through Audible.
