Where—here?

We've had a few crazies going after me or the office generally—one dark threat I went to the police with, and 2 (?) weird letters from people having psychotic breaks and including us in their delusions. So, it hasn't changed anything about pro-and-con, but it's been an occasional concern and caution to how I, and we, interact with strange customers.

I occasionally keep some opinion to myself here or elsewhere, for fear of the pitchforky ways of the contemporary social media environment. I've had them from various sides--most markedly when I criticized an Islamophobe and got hundreds of attacks, including a few "threats." I don't count it as a real threat when some asshole with an egg account on Twitter—surely either 14 or living in his mom's basement with a ferret named Adolph—says I should have my head cut off. While not wanting to criticize those who would feel fear at that, I think we need to adjust to the reality that such social-media garbage is unlike getting a death-threat slipped under your door in 1995.

Here, on Twitter, and Facebook, I have avoided most recent discussion of a country I lived in and have friends in, because I want to be able to return, and I don't want my many friends there to fall under suspicion from that association. I don't think they would, but another country (China) is known to be doing that sort of social-network analysis, and I expect it will be standard for repressive governments within a few years. I would not take this approach if it were my country, but I feel that, as an outsider, I have a different responsibility—I don't have to live there.

A male--white--kind of old (the good thing about that is I'm retired/the bad thing is I can't do half the shit I use to be able to do)--still a bit freckled--paternal name is Irish/my mother's name was French--married/two grown up kids/two cats and a dog--green party (I'll vote for democrats if I like them)--brought up catholic but stopped going to mass almost 40 years ago and I don't miss it (there are the occasional weddings/funerals but that's it)--I post probably too often.

One female and one maybe?

Straight(ish),'white male of Italian and German ancestry (neither of which I identify strongly with). I'm not sure I have the chops to call myself a progressive. I'm meh on religion until religion fucks with me. I've tapered on posting because I'm tired with rehashing the same discussions with 2-3 of the same shrill, strident guys shout the loudest and spew the most verbiage. I've not refrained from posting from fear, but I'm tired.

And I don't think any of these discussions are representative of anything but a bunch of jackass angry American white guys.

What can we do to change that?

Fine...

Gender: Barbatus

Race: Highly susceptible to damage from solar radiation.

Ethnicity: One half Irish (from Inchigeelagh, the relevant ancestors having apparently washed out early from O'Sullivan's March centuries earlier). One half Yankee-as-it-gets (the relevant ancestor having landed in 1635, one of the first settlers of Sandwich, MA) -- but with subsequent backcrossing (as subsequent generations also tended to like the sea). So: English, German, Dutch, Roma, and others. Detailed enough? You're welcome.

Sexual Orientation: Frustrated

Political Affiliation: Principled Social Democrat/Altermondialiste. (I seem to be among the last of the species).

Religion: Lapsed Catholic/Agnostic

Posting frequency: Frequent

Have you ever refrained from posting for fear?: Sure. Self-censorship: it's what all the cool kids are doing. Catch the wave!

From Ghost Town...

- Date of birth?
- Why?

What day were you born?

No, I understood the question.
Why do you need to know that?

Let's leave it blank. Weight?

- Last night or this morning?
- You pick.

Hundred and eighty-two pounds.

Number of alcoholic beverages
consumed per week?

- Why do you need to know that?
- Well, they want to know.

Well, I'm sure
"they" want to know a lot of things,

but I don't want my intimate details

auctioned off to the highest bidder,
willy-nilly.

I'll put zero.

- Marital status?
- Pass.

- Profession?
- Irrelevant.

- Food allergies?
- I'm not gonna be eating here.

- Are you allergic to sticking plaster?
- What a ludicrous question.

I'm not answering
any more of these, really.

- Do you smoke?
- Stop it.

- Do you wear dentures?
- Madame, listen.

- When was the last time you ate?
- A pertinent question at last.

Yesterday, lunchtime.
Thanks for asking.

I had a tuna sandwich.
Toast was soggy, but...

- Did you drink the laxative solution?
- Yes.

Did it work?

It was as advertised.

Did you evacuate your bowels?

I drank copious amounts
of drain-cleaning fluid.

What followed was fait accompli.

Sir, what I'm asking is if you were...

I shat. Okay? Good. Again and again.

It was like a terrorist attack down there
in the darkness and the chaos,

the running and the screaming, okay?

- Fine with me.
- Good.

Gross invasion of my privacy, this.

Wait till they get you in the back.
