“I am pleased that under the terms of this settlement, every victim will receive restitution and that Donald Trump will pay up to $1 million in penalties to the State of New York for violating state education laws,” {emphasis mine} Mr. Schneiderman said in a statement. “The victims of Trump University have waited years for today’s result, and I am pleased that their patience — and persistence — will be rewarded by this $25 million settlement.”

So, how to spin this one, Trumpers? He's just paying $25 million for the good of his country? But Hillary is the crooked one! Emails!

Would it be possible for someone who voted for Trump to actually view their candidate with a clear and objective mind? Or is membership in the cult of personality a requirement?

I suspect there may be conditions for those who accept any kind of repayment in the settlement. I suspect it's being done to completely quell this as an issue in the future.

Donald Trump is right now bragging on Twitter that he settled for a fraction of what the award would have been had they gone to court. Logic?

3: Well, pretty much every settlement involves settling for an amount less than the maximum that the plaintiff could have obtained had they won. Otherwise there is very little incentive for a defendant to settle. Almost by definition a settlement is going to be a "fraction" of what the plaintiff might have won.

One should not that a $25 million settlement is quite substantial, and as more than one litigator I know has said, you rarely see such a large settlement unless the defendant was pretty sure the evidence against him was quite strong.

>4 StormRaven: Yes, but it still seems to admit the probability of losing. A more prudent president-elect facing a lawsuit for fraud might have kept quiet about it altogether and let the lawyers make statements, especially since the amount of the settlement is noticeably large. But that's certainly not Trump's style. Of course, he had previously said (on Twitter) that he wouldn't settle at all because he expected to win easily.

#4--pretty much agree though I would add that the law absolutely favors those with the most means. They can afford the fancy law firms who will help them find avenues to delay or undermine the complainants. Settling right now is almost certainly about Trump's own convenience--if he hadn't been elected this probably would have gone on much longer. He's simply getting rid of the distraction at pennies on the dollar.

This is NOT normal!

It is not normal for a POTUS or anyone halfway decent to have violated state education laws, and then to BRAG about anything related to that. Let alone casting it as stiffing the state in some way! What THE FUCK.

But Hillary is the crooked one! Emails!

"Burn the witch! Lock her up! Killary!"

No, we will NEVER shut up about it.

No we will not !! Sickening on so many levels !

Trump has repeatedly bragged about "getting away" with stuff. He repeats the same thing ....."I did it using our laws. If you don't like the laws change them"

Now there is a unique idea ! Change some thing. Take an antiquated idea and make it relevant to the 21st century ! Wow.....the old White guard would have a crap fest, should that happen. They've got it locked in.

What's bizarre is that he was elected at least partly because people wanted change. Yet Trump has zero incentive to change a system he exploits so successfully. Why would he tear down a system that made him rich?

Not sure what people are thinking....or perhaps they just stopped thinking and are just reacting to every and any thing they think is real ? I don't know. I never saw such a disregard for "facts" before. It does not seem to matter what the truth is. But, then I have seen that within our justice system for quite a while. I believe we institute a set of rules or laws and eventually those with the smarts and the money find a work around. They scam the system. To me, Democracy is a living thing and should be reworked now and again to prevent this from happening or we will elect a Trump.

Everyone has their own set of facts and they have the freedom to do so. They can, I guess but, reality still exists...of course by the time they are smacked up with the reality of situation they have found a set of facts that lets them blame someone else. (Obama was the target for 8 yrs....for everything) Nothing will ever change this way. It can't.
