While trying to upload a photo to my gallery, I got the message:
"Problem
We are unable to process that as an image."
I tried two different photos, both are .jpg, one of them I tried to upload twice, and every attempt resulted in the same error message.
Thanks for looking into this.

Are you uploading from your computer, or grabbing from a URL? If the latter, what is the URL?

How big are the images files - I remember having this error when the file size was too big -- had not seen it lately so not sure if that is still happening - but I had not tried uploading big files either.

>1 fuzzi: It's not just you—seems there's a larger problem with image uploading. I'll see if I can flag down technical staff who can help.

We're pretty sure we know what the problem is, but our sysadmin is the only one who can fix it, and it's the middle of the night where he is. He should get this up and running again first thing when he's on in the morning.
Image uploading is the only function that's affected.

I'll see what I can do. I'm not a sysadmin but I can delete some files…

The problem seems fixed.
The problem was that our image server ran out of "inodes," something like a dovecote running out of holes for pigeons. (This differs from running out of space. Most pidgeons are really small, so there was space, but not holes.)
The fixer was not, I think, our sysadmin, as he's very diligent about leaving notes when he fixes something, but an automatic process that fixed it. When he gets on, he'll be adjusting the settings so that it doesn't run into this problem again and, if it does, he gets a wake-up text.

I encountered this quite a few times whilst I was on a big cover uploading spree recently, always when I was trying to grab an image from the Web. In many cases, it was the online image's URL that was at fault; I found it happened with images which ended with a duplicated file extension, such as x.jpeg.jpg. Editing the URL before uploading made no difference; I still got the error message.

It's doing it again, while I was trying to upload a jpg to a new venue I'd created.
The image is 1582x1038, and I am uploading it from my computer.
Thanks.

Error Message: Problem
We are unable to process that as an image.
My image is 590x850, uploading from my computer. Never had a prob with this before. And I upload my own images or use URL addresses for my covers most of the time. For years.

having the same problem with small jpeg cover uploaded from my computer.
16timspalding
Fixed. Server got full. Pedro does not apparently have an alert on it. I was able to remove some logging files we don't need. He'll do more work, and make sure it's alerting.
18CtrSacredSciences
Happening again here, PST 5:33 for a small 97k jpeg cover. New message though: "500 Internal Server Error
nginx"
nginx"
19pedro.pessoa
fixed both issues contributing to this. One was a re-occurrence. Added non-critical alerting to it.

Yes, I've had this problem since yesterday. As above says:
"Problem

What is going on?

Our sysadmin is on the case.

Sorry for the trouble. Are you still getting the error message? I just uploaded an author image from the web successfully. How are you uploading the image, what author page? Thanks!
