We are now 2/3 of the way through 2017 - which seems incredible as it feels as if the fireworks were only yesterday!

How is your reading year going?
Are you on track for your reading targets (if you set any)?
Do you have some new favourite authors from this year?
Any new favourite books?
Have you read any books this year you wish you hadn't read or didn't enjoy?
What are your hopes and aspirations for the last four months of the year?
Any other thoughts?

How is your reading year going?: I've had a really good year in spite of getting off to a slow start in January.

Are you on track for your reading targets?: According to Goodreads I've read 180 of the 255 books I set as a goal for the year. I'm 11 books ahead of schedule wit 71% of the total.

Do you have some new favourite authors from this year? (LOL! my spell check doesn't like how you spelled "favorite") I told it you didn't know any better:)) I would have to say a new favorite author would be James Oswald. Our wonderful book discussions introduced him to me.

Any new favourite books? Just two that I would call favorites. Say Nothing by Brad Parks & Shadow Man by Cody McFadyen

Have you read any books this year you wish you hadn't read or didn't enjoy? I try to be kind to these poor books. There were only 3 thus far that I considered a total waste of the poor tree and my time. The Boys From Santa Cruz by Jonathan Nasaw & surprisingly The Girl Next Door by Ruth Rendall along with Rooms by Lauren Oliver.

What are your hopes and aspirations for the last four months of the year? I'll just keep working toward that 255 goal. it looks manageable.

A great year for you so far Carol.

Given your slower start in January you are more than on track for 255, I'm betting you'll get to at least 275 if not 280 providing life doesn't get in the way.

What's a 'u' between friends. 😊

>3 Andrew-theQM: You're so right, Andrew. An"u" shouldn't make a bit of difference. So I won't even mention that you pronounce the "Z" wrong:)

>5 Andrew-theQM: I wonder why that is? The people that brought the language to America surely spoke and wrote it like you and not me. My grandparents and my father spelled words with the "u" and said "Zeb".

>6 Carol420: The one that I find strange is the use of the word gotten, which isn't used in the UK.

>7 Andrew-theQM: My mother says she thinks one of the reasons for the many differences in out common language is that America was influenced by so many different cultures that brought their languages with them and "Americanized" some of their words. This may have also been true of the UK also at some point with all the invading armies.

How is your reading year going?
My year in reading is going quite well. I have reread some beloved books, have read some new-to-me authors and have attempted a few fresh genres.

Are you on track for your reading targets (if you set any)?
I have already surpassed my annual goal of 100 books completed. I hit 103 this morning. Yea me! WOOT WOOT!~! :-)

Again, most definitely.

Death by Darjeeling by Laura Childs, &

All in all though I have been very fortunate with my reading choices this year.

What are your hopes and aspirations for the last four months of the year?
I want to complete the Monthly Mini-Challenges for this group and L/T's Monthly Author Reads. I would like to read at least one Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel by year's end. My biggest goal is as always, to enjoy my reading, as it feeds my soul.

Any other thoughts?
I would just like to say how happy I am to be a part of this group however small a part I play. This is such a welcoming & safe place to be and I thank all of you for that, especially you....Andrew-theQM.

>9 rainpebble: Well done On a fantastic achievement, and it's only the end of August! đŸŸđŸ„‚đŸŽŠđŸŽ‰ At this rate you could make 150. I always enjoy looking at your lists (and pictures), always so many books new to me on these lists. You will find plenty of Harlan Cobem and Michael Connelly fans on this group and in the Mystery and Suspense Group that Carol and I take lead roles in. Harlan Coben is a personal favourite, love his Myron Bolitar Series and his standalones.
We love having you in the group and that you enjoy it so much, although I think you play more than a small part in it. Your kind words sum up the type of group we aim to host, so pleased to see we are achieving this aim.
Happy reading during the rest of the year.

How is your reading year going?
I've had a great reading year so far, seem to have read a lot more books than last year, not sure how this has happened. I have been reading more audiobooks than last year but still the vast majority of the books I have read have been e-books or physical books.

Are you on track for your reading targets (if you set any)?
I set myself a target of 168 books to read (I read 180 last year) and according to Goodreads at 163 books read I am 51 books ahead of schedule. I hope to meet this initial target by next weekend, or the following week at the latest. I will then up this target when I meet it and aim for 215 books.
So far I've read 66,529 pages which is only about 10,600 less than last year in total. So I think I will aim for 90,000 pages. Gulp!

Do you have some new favourite authors from this year?
Mark Dawson John Milton Series
Erin Morgenstern Night Circus
James Oswald Inspector McLean Series
Sara Gruen Water for Elephants
Andy Weir The Martian
Rachel Joyce The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
Tatiana De Rosnay Sarah's Key
Pierce Brown Red Rising
Maurice Druon The Accursed Kings Series
Denzil Meyrick DCI Daley Series
Rose Tremain The Gustav Sonata
Santa Montefiore The Butterfly Box
Christopher Bland Cathar

Any new favourite books?
I've read so many great books this year it is hard to narrow it down, but will give it a try.
The Four Legendary Kingdoms and Ice Station by Matthew Reilly
Long Time Coming and Take No Farewell by Robert Goddard
Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Missing You by Harlan Coben
Consent to Kill by Vince Flynn, but could have chosen any of the 5 books I have read in the series this year!
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce
The Martian by Andy Weir
Cathar by Christopher Bland
Time and Chance by Sharon Kay Penman
Resurrection Men by Ian Rankin
The Mapping of Love and Death by Jacqueline Winspear
Triptych by Karin Slaughter
Need You Dead by Peter James
I did warn you!

Have you read any books this year you wish you hadn't read or didn't enjoy?
Crusoe's Daughter by Jane Gardam
And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini - not a poor book, but given it's reviews I felt let down by it, just too disjointed being told from different people's stories
The Constantine Codex by Paul Meier - only book not rated at least three stars

What are your hopes and aspirations for the last four months of the year?
Want to continue to target the following series:
Mitch Rapp Series by Vince Flynn
John Milton Series by Mark Dawson
Agatha Raisin Series by M C Beaton
Inspector Montalbano Series by Andrea Camilleri
The Maisie Dobbs Series by Jacqueline Winspear
The Cotton Malone Series by Steve Berry

Any other thoughts?
Great to share book opinions with others in this group and to see the variety of books we are all reading! So thanks everyone.

How is your reading year going?
Slowly. I'm nowhere close to where I should be

Are you on track for your reading targets (if you set any)?
Nope. My goal was 81; I think I'll be lucky to hit 60. I'm Ok with that - I thought 81 was a little steep to begin with.

Do you have some new favourite authors from this year?
Martha Hall Kelly - Lilac Girls
Frederik Backman - My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry

Any new favourite books?
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly
My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrik Backman
The Stars Are Fire by Anita Shreve

Have you read any books this year you wish you hadn't read or didn't enjoy?
I didn't finish Paul Galilco's Thomasina - the movie was better!

What are your hopes and aspirations for the last four months of the year?
I'd like to get another 20 books read by the year's end.

Any other thoughts?
One thing I've noticed is that when I have a book going on my Kindle, I read more consistently and more often. I also know that during this time of year - the start of a new school year - I have a ton of other obligations and I'm worn out by the time I get home from work, so reading isn't always an option. (Judging by the looks of my house, neither is doing dishes nor laundry.) Another week or two, I should pick up steam again.

>14 Hope_H: LOL! You have to admit though that reading anything is more fun than dishes or laundry:)

>13 Andrew-theQM: My friend...that is impressive. Well done.

>4 Carol420: and >5 Andrew-theQM: And in Canada, we use Zed and Zee, pretty much interchangeably, and I can't even remember which is the pronunciation in the US!

ETA: But then, in Canada, some of our speech and spelling is more Americanized and some is more British (ized!?).

How is your reading year going? Are you on track for your reading targets (if you set any)? I'm doing well. Goodreads tells me I'm 3 books ahead of schedule on my total goal of 155. For individual challenges, I also seem to be doing well. Oh! I guess that answers the 2nd question, as well, so I'll combine those questions...

Do you have some new favourite authors from this year? ETA: I rarely pick out favourite authors. Stephen King was a favourite back in high school. He could still be, but that's not changed in a long time.

Any new favourite books? I always just pick favourites for each individual year. It's too hard to pick lifetime favourites!
ETA: Some that will be on that list this year (5 stars, though I also have some at 4.5 stars that will make the list):
Intensity / Dean Koontz
The Good Father / Diane Chamberlain
This is a reread, so I won't put it on my list this year, but it was 5 stars:
Into Thin Air / Jon Krakauer

Have you read any books this year you wish you hadn't read or didn't enjoy? Yup... it's almost bedtime, so I won't (at this moment) take time to look them up, but I'm sure I have had a few 2 star books this year.
ETA:
I have a few 2.5 star books that could potentially go here, as well, but the 2 star books:
Birdie / Tracey Lindberg
The Underground Railroad / Colson Whitehead

What are your hopes and aspirations for the last four months of the year? Just to continue at the pace I'm going at. It's always nice to surpass the goals (I have had a few years when I read more than 155 books, but this seems to be an overall good number for me).

Any other thoughts?

Princesses Behaving Badly: Real Stories from History Without the Fairy-Tale Endings by Linda Rodriguez McRobbie

Have you read any books this year you wish you hadn't read or didn't enjoy?
Nope!

What are your hopes and aspirations for the last four months of the year?
To hopefully get to my end goal but if I don’t that’s okay too.

Any other thoughts?
This got me researching books and finding new authors and genres to explore and re-examining genres that I put by the wayside.

How is your reading year going?
I'm 94% complete on my 250 book goal. I've read 236 books in 2017. I think I'm so far ahead because I'm doing so many activities that let me listen to audio books.

Are you on track for your reading targets (if you set any)?
I'm going to stretch my goal to 300 books.

Do you have some new favourite authors from this year?
Angela Marsons
Robert Dugoni
Owen Laukkanen

Any new favourite books?
Some of my favorite books this year have been in audio:

My Sister's Grave - Robert Dugoni

Th entire seven volumes of the Clifton Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer was an exceptional audio experience.

My favorite historical fiction books were:

Have you read any books this year you wish you hadn't read or didn't enjoy?
I've been disappointed by some books I expected to like more than I actually did.

What are your hopes and aspirations for the last four months of the year?
I hope to finish the reading challenges I participate in here and on GR.

Any other thoughts?
I love to read everyone's reviews which have greatly added to my TBR. I enjoy participating in the Mystery and Suspense Discussion Group Reads.

Sorry,no time to even do this assessment at the moment, always in a rush, only about 30 minutes to spend a day on LT,and can achieve only so much with my two fingered typing! lol.
I am still having to buckle down to get through my 12x12 this year.Due to a variety of factors I am reading much less these days (though September was a good month). I normally read about 210 books a year, around 16-18 books a month. So I can do about 14 books a month from the 12x12 and then can enjoy one or two books a week off list.So I never feel constrained or rushed, and can enjoy my reads. I finish my 12x12 usually late October, early November.
Not this year! I still have about 30 books to read for the 12x12,some of them huge tomes,700-900 pages long.Add some books for the Birthflower challenge every month, five for the A-Z Authors and Titles challenge, and books which have to go back to the library soon and I seem to be drowning! lol. I've read a total of 144 books so far this year, probably I'm 30 books behind my usual level. Must finish my 12x12,and my SF challenges over on Worlds Without End but may have to drop doing some monthly challenges and reads for fun and stick to my lists:0(.
Where's a magic portal when you need it? Pop through, read for several hours straight, and return to find only 5 minutes have passed! .....if only....(sigh).....
