I just cataloged my 1000th book. The winner was, The Gulag Archipeligo volume II by Aleksander Solzhenitsyn. (I had been wondering which book I should make 1000, but crossed the line before I realized it.)

w00t!
That's a milestone, no doubt about it!
Congrats, Arctic.

My 1,000th book appears to have been Harold, the Last of the Saxon Kings by Edward Bulwer-Lytton. Not too terribly exciting, is it?
LOL

Congratulations! Wow- I'm only approaching 500. 1000 is the ultimate goal, I think.

I'm creeping up on 1000 ....at 957 mind you that is not counting all the ones not cataloged in storage in NY....

My 1000th was about a year ago, in the middle of entering all of the books I've got on cases at my parents, and was Perchance to Dream, a Star Trek: TNG novel. *shame*

No need for shame, fyrefly98!
:o)
No need at all.

I crossed 1000 in August while putting in cookbooks, so 1000 is a Time-Life book of recipes from 1968: Recipes: The Cooking of Scandinavia (Foods of the World)... pretty darn dull, I don't even cook!

>6 clamairy:

My original reply was "But it's not even a good ST:TNG novel!", and then I realized that that was just digging in deeper.

How can you tell which book was your 1000th? Or any number-th, for that matter? (site ignorance)

#2 Clam, as you probably know, ol' Ed has one of the great literary contests named after him. Last year's results are here.

same question as above. and congrats I haven't even reached 200 yet but I strive for greater numbers

#9, click on catalogue view C (the default C) and sort by "Entry date". This will actually sort the the books by LT unique ID, a counter. So, they will be in the order you entered them.

Oh yeah, remember to click the sort twice, the first time is in reverse order.

Shadows of Yog-Sothoth - a Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game book.

I don't know what this says about me. Giant nerd? Huge geek?

Yes.

#10 - Jim, I think we need to start one of those contests in here. Fantasy themed, of course!

Our 1,000th book was Bolos II - one of my husband's. Some science-fictiony male adventure military fluff. Yuck.

Mine was put in on Nov. 28, 2006, and was Shadow of a Bull. It's a book in my classroom library that I've never read. It doesn't even interest me.

17Arctic-Stranger

I read that when I was a kid. I don't remember much about it, except that a lot of people told me to read it, and I liked it. But then, I liked almost everything I read as kid.

Galaxy Science Fiction, 1959:1, Vol. 1-4 seems to be my book #1000. Bound in cloth by a real bookbinder, as per ordered by my father back in those days. He asked me if I wanted them and how could I deny?

Argh! I'm only at 600. I have 1869 in my house, but I haven't finished entering all the books I've read in my house. Too much chatting!

OK, how's this for too perfect: my 1000th book is Leave Me Alone, I'm Reading: Finding and Losing Myself in Books by Maureen Corrigan. I entered it into my library list on 6/21/07.

I love this site.

Congrats Arctic and may you have many more!

Wow on the thousand everyone! Good going!

LOL MrsLee--I have no idea how many books I have in the house, so you're ahead of me--but lots more than are entered. I'm currently working on entering my tbr pile--which is several hundred books large. Then I'll hit the books in storage in boxes.

LOL maggie1944--That sounds like a wonderful book! Sounds like one more to add to my tbr pile.

I had to look up my 500th books since I'm also not at 1000. Thanks, dchaikin, for explaining how to do it. Very cool. (BTW, my 500th is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. )

I remember wanting to make my 1000th book special too, but got so caught up in the joy of cataloguing that I just lost count and so it's simply Live the Story: Short Simple Plays for Church Groups back from when I was a lay minister. Now I wonder what book I would have picked if I'd thought about it to make it really special as my 1000th book - I'll have to think about it for my 2000th book!

Congrats Arctic :-)

Perfect book maggie!! *chuckle*

I'm getting close to the 1500 mark, and there are still about 100- 200 books in the house to be cataloged. I should start planning, should I?

24maggie1944
Jan 13, 2008, 9:43 pm

I have 1429 but no more books hiding in boxes. Clamairy I think you'll get there before I do unless I do some serious book buying which I don't think I am going to do, am I?

I'm only at 646 (only on LT does that seem like a "small" personal library; in real life, I'm used to hearing the comment, "Wow, you have so many books"). So, I checked my 500th, which was Crispin: the cross of lead. It will be a while before I hit 1,000.

26Choreocrat
Jan 15, 2008, 10:12 pm

25 - Ditto that... (plus I like the Crispin books *waits impatiently for third book*)

My 500th was Selected Works of Ba Jin.

Edited: Jan 16, 2008, 4:29 pm

25, 26 - Me too. And then comes the "Will you really read all those books?"

My 500th was The Veterinarians' Guide to Natural Remedies for Dogs

28joehutcheon
Jan 16, 2008, 4:38 pm

I've catalogued 950, but the OED is 20 volumes and the DNB even more, and A Dance to the Music of Time is about a dozen books, so I'm really at 1001 already.

I just cataloged my 1000th book (still not the ones in boxes in NY) very exciting hehe.....I don't have a problem....really I don't..I can stop anytime I want to

and the book was:
Puss in Books: A collection of great cat quotations

30KimberlyL
Feb 21, 2008, 2:01 pm

My 500th was Scoundrel Time by Lillian Hellman.

#25 I've thought the same thing. Have you ever had anyone say that "Wow, you have so many books" with the tone that suggests they are looking at shrunken heads instead of books?

31evedeve
Feb 22, 2008, 3:37 pm

hmm....I've never had that experience KimberlyL...but maybe it's because the books were next to the shrunken heads.. ;)

I'm almost on my 1000th book, I just have to get around to that last couple of shelves. I'm hoping it will be something good on the exact 1000 but who knows what might make it there.

I'm also regretting giving away all those boxes of books before we moved house. It seemed like a good idea at the time as space on the moving truck was in short supply and time was also limited. So they all went to the charity shop and now I keep looking for them. Every time one is mentioned on here and it makes me really want to read it again I think "I have that...oh, wait, no."

If I hadn't given them away I think I might have around 1700 by now. I'm never moving house again.

Papa Smurf!!!

Like I've always said, "If a problem comes along, you must Smurf it."

Not quite to my 1000th book yet, but I've got at least another 1000 to enter. *sigh*
I keep forgetting to put them in when I buy more. Which I don't need.
But I want them. So, I shall have them.
For my husband says, "get what you want, honey..." muwahahhaha!!!

Apparently mine was Snell's Principles of Equity - mmm the excitement.
The better half tells me its a key text in the study of Law in this country but I figure I'll skip on actually reading it.

*whispers* Dare I mention that I've just catalogued my 2000th? No idea what no. 1000 was but I made sure that no. 2000 was The Return of the King, so I could have at least a dozen of the GD's to 25 showing in my catalogue.

40maggie1944

That is awesome. I would not know where to put several more hundreds of books, but I may find out. LT continues to give me ideas I just can't turn down. and off I go book buying. See you in the 2000s sometime soon?
