I am looking to read a great series. I've just finished the Gunslinger novels by Stephen King and am anxious to start another series. Any suggestions?

I'm in the midst of reading the Dark Tower series now, recently finished The Waste Lands, I'm not sure what you're into, but Outlander and the succeeding books by Diana Gabaldon are a great series, a romantic historical fiction series, with a bit of time travel thrown in. Sounds crazy, but they really are good!

If you wouldn't mind some more fantasy, I highly recommend Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings books. The series spans three trilogies and starts with Assassin's Apprentice.

#3, funny coincidence I'm reading the 2nd one of that series right now, Royal Assassin.

Simon Scarrow's Roman series is excellent. It starts following the lives of two Roman legionaries in the 43AD invasion of Britain and goes on from there. Some of the most gripping stuff I've ever read!

1. Under the Eagle
2. The Eagle's Conquest
3. When the Eagle Hunts
4. The Eagle and the Wolves
5. The Eagle's Prey
6. The Eagle's Prophecy
7. The Eagle in the Sand
8. Centurion (March 2008)

I recommend any series by David Eddings or Stephen R. Donaldson - all their works are fantastic.

If you're up for the long-haul, you could try Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. There are 31 (+ Where's My Cow?) in the series plus four young adult Discworld novels to boot. That should keep you busy for a while, especially as he's still writing more of them!

I don't know what you're into, but personally I love the fantasy-serie "Wheel of Time" written by Robert Jordan. Another fantasy-serie that I highly recommend is "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George R. R. Martin.

I enjoy reading any type of book. I don't care if it's fantasy, horror or science fiction as long as it is well written and tells a great story. Thanks for all of your suggestions. Keep them coming!

I see that you have Starship Troopers in your library. If you like military fiction of military SF take a look at the Seafort Saga by David Feintuch.

1. Midshipman's Hope
2. Challenger's Hope
3. Prisoner's Hope
4. Fisherman's Hope
5. Voices of Hope
6. Patriarch's Hope
7. Children of Hope

Feintuch won the Campbell Award for Best New Author (at age 50!) in 1996, and his stories are gripping. Just don't get too attached to the characters.

You might also like the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde.

1. The Eyre Affair
2. Lost in a Good Book
3. The Well of Lost Plots
4. Something Rotten
5. First Among Sequels

Excellent fantasy/alternative reality books--very literate and very witty, and very good stories and characters.

One of the best series I have ever read, is The Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison. This is part science fiction part action/adventure, and focuses on James diGriz who is one of the most interesting characters I've ever followed. Most of the books are, unfortunately, out of print now, but any good used book store or online source will have them available.

#12 bukwurm2: Man, I can't believe I forgot all about The Stainless Steel Rat! I agree with you that they're fantastic, so I second your recommendation! The main character is so lovable and the stories are funny and well-written. Thanks for reminding me - I may have to set aside some time for a reread soon...

If you like chick lit books the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella is really good. I also enjoy the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.

I enjoyed the Alien Chronicles trilogy by Deborah Chester, you might want to try that?

Two of my all time series favorites are by Octavia E. Butler. They are excellent powerful science fiction.

Lilith's Brood
Dawn
Adulthood Rites
Imago

Seed to Harvest
Wild Seed
Mind of My Mind
Clay's Ark
Patternmaster

Both are available in omnibus editions.

I am a fan of anything written by Anne McCaffrey. She has the Pern series, Peetaybee series, Crystal Singer, all the books which sprang from Rowan....

Then, of course, there is Asimov's robot and Foundation series. And countless Heinlein stories.

I'm a big fan of fantasy and YA.

My suggestions:
Grey Griffin Series by Derek Benz
Revenge of the Shadow King
Curse of the Black Wolf
Fall of the Templar

These are about a boy who's parents are divorced and a card game called "Round Table" played similarly to Magic cards. They are very good a fourth book is coming out called The Immortals.

Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer
Twilight
New Moon
Eclipse
Breaking Dawn Releases August 2nd in the US/Canada.
(Stephenie has a non-series book coming out on May 6th called The Host.)

These stories are about a high school girl who falls in love with a vampire and the danger involved.

Interview With a Vampire by Anne Rice
and the myriad of books that fall under that heading

I enjoy a good series too. But sometimes I'm not in the mood, especially if a series is still in the works.

There's also the "Gettysburg" series.
Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
Gods and Generals by Jeff Shaara
Last Full Measure by Jeff Shaara

All based on the American Civil War. Michael wrote the first book (the best in my humble opinion) and his son, Jeff, wrote the others. Jeff has written more military books about different eras, also.
