Hello 1001 books to read before you die readers! Since most of us are "planners" I think it's fun to share our plans and goals for knocking out those 1001 books in 2018. And it's fun to look back at the end of the year to see how we did.

Any lofty goals for 2018?

I managed 100 list books from 142 books read this year. I should manage something similar next year (so progressing to 750 or so by year end). The alphabetical approach by author will continue, and looking at my book shelves this should take me through I, J, K and L. No doubt I will be distracted by group reads and other books that catch my eye, but that is the basic plan for 2018.

I want to try to get to 500 (I am at 420-something right now). Other than that, no other plans. I will continue with my 'whatever catches my fancy' system of picking books with a bit more emphasis on the longer ones.

My plan is to read 20 more books from the list, which would vault me one single spot on the list: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/1001_Progress_Index

Then I'll spend another 1.5 years climbing another one single spot.

As always, my aim is for 20+, no specifics (aside of the ones selected for my TBR Challenge that are 1001 titles).

I have so SO many started-but-not-finished that I need to get back to. I've lined them up to link with some other challenges - so hopefully will clear off;

Shikasta
The Children's Book
The Satanic Verses
A Prayer for Owen Meany
London Fields
Last of the Mohicans

I have lots others lined up but these ones are beginning to bug me!

Once again, my resolution is to keep reading through books I already own and are sitting on my TBR shelf (shelves). But I have this bad tendency to read other people's reviews and order a book that sounds intriguing. Or of course a book that we do as a group read. Still, over the course of the past year my TBR shelves did decrease slightly, so I am on the right path!

I'm aiming for 30 books this year and reading only from the books I already have.

Like last year my aim will be 24 books (two per month) + at least one more volume of In Search of Lost Time.

The 24 should consist of at least:
1 before 1700
x books helping me finish at least two authors with multiple books on the list.

Anniversary books originally published in
1818
1868
1918
1943
1968
1993

After compiling my list of which books I haven't read/don't own and searching out the 600+ on that list, I have acquired more books this year than last year (and possibly the year before, combined). I only read a total 78 books this year, but 32 were list books, so I'm hoping to read through at least that many again next year. I think The Kindly Ones should have counted as three...

I'm going to keep it simple and aim for 12 books read but two of those are going to be rereads so I'll only probably add 10 to my life-time total.

I'm at 398 right now. 400 would be nice, 425 would be nicer.

>10 amaryann21: agree that The Kindly Ones should have counted as multiple books. Then again, so should those "books" that are actually 4 or 6 volumes.

>12 jfetting: I agree completely. Let's petition Boxall to amend the list to include this suggestion :)

>12 jfetting:, >13 amaryann21: I like to think the multiple-volume novels are balanced out by the short stories and novellas. So, if long books count extra, would The Nose and The Yellow Wallpaper only be 1/5 of a book each? ;)

I failed pretty miserably at my reading goal in 2017, (mainly due to changes in my work schedule.) So I'm ratcheting way back in 2018. Hoping to read 48 books this year and putting at least half of them as list books, so just 24 in total.

The resolutions are likely to go underachieved, unless I aim ridiculously low...
So I'll just say I'll read at least some, or even most, list books I have in my shelf already (I think I have ~10 books there now).

>14 ELiz_M: Yup, handful of Poe short stories, too, definitely lots of short ones to balance the longer doorstops!

I'd just like to read one per month. Nothing compared to good earlier years, but 10 more than in 2017. :)

>14 ELiz_M: You have a point... but I echo >15 jfetting: 's sentiment! The only one I actually felt a little guilty about was A Modest Proposal, but only for a second.

Just want to add a minimum of 5 from this list each year. Some I really won't read!

I would like to read 50 - this would take me from 700 to 750. An ambitious target would be 75, I did manage to read 77 last year, but that was mainly due to a couple of lucky hauls in charity shops. It is getting harder to find some of the books and also I have mentally crossed off some writers that I don't want to read more of.
I'd like to get back on track with the group reads here, hopefully I will be moving into my own flat soon, but there has been so many delays and my stuff has been in store for more than 4 months now.

I'm trying to get my reading on track but still w a 4 and 2 year old it is just a real challenge. But I going to try for at least 25.
