1 ) Death du Jour (Temperance Brennan #2)
by Kathy Reichs
Blurb
Assaulted by the bitter cold of a Montreal winter, the American-born Dr. Temperance Breman, Forensic Anthropologist for the Province of Quebec, digs for a corpse where Sister Elisabeth Nicolet, dead over a century and now a candidate for sainthood, should lie in her grave. A strange, small coffin, buried in the recesses of a decaying church, holds the first clue to the cloistered nun's fate. The puzzle surrounding Sister Elisabeth's life and death provides a welcome contrast to discoveries at a burning chalet, where scorched and twisted bodies await Tempe's professional expertise. Who were these people? What brought them to this gruesome fate? Homicide Detective Andrew Ryan, with whom Tempe has a combustive history, joins her in the arson investigation. From the fire scene they are drawn into the worlds of an enigmatic and controversial professor, a mysterious commune, and a primate colony on a Carolina island.
My thoughts
I love tempy she is a fantastic character to me . Also even with the jargon I dont feel like i'm lost or have missed things . Saying that this is a re-read for me as I am insane and said I would read the series from the start along side a friend who is just starting them.

2 ) SweetFreak by Sophie McKenzie
Blurb
Get ready for a brand new edge-of-your-seat read from bestselling author Sophie McKenzie!
When everyone thinks you're a liar, how hard will you fight for the truth?
Carey and Amelia have been best friends forever. Then Amelia starts being trolled by SweetFreak, a mysterious and hateful online account, and Carey is accused of being behind the vicious comments and threats.
Shut out by her other friends and shunned by Amelia, Carey is determined to clear her name and find out who’s really sending the messages. But as the online attacks spill over into real life, events start spiralling out of control… Can Carey expose the real SweetFreak before it’s too late?
Blurb
This read was a hard one as it deals with cyber bullying. It captures the viciousness of how quick people can go from accepted to dirt as well. Still as intense as it was the writting style is wonderful and you can really identify with the characters. Also at the end includes steps to deal with cyber bullies and where to go for help which is awesome in the extreme.

3. Anansi Boys (American Gods) by Neil Gaiman
Blurb
God is dead. Meet the kids.
Fat Charlie Nancy's normal life ended the moment his father dropped dead on a Florida karaoke stage. Charlie didn't know his dad was a god. And he never knew he had a brother.
Now brother Spider's on his doorstep -- about to make Fat Charlie's life more interesting... and a lot more dangerous.
My thoughts
After American Gods I was reluctant to read anything else having to do with the gods as written by Mr Gaimen. But my friend kept pestering me to give this one a go. Since I knew some of anasi's stories I finally gave in and listened to the audio version. I found I rather liked it. Though I did have re-listen to some of the last chapters it was very enjoyable.

4. Username: Evie (Username #1) by Joe Sugg
Blurb
Like anyone who feels as though they just don't fit in, Evie dreams of a place of safety. When times are tough, all she wants is a chance to escape from reality and be herself.
Despite his failing health, Evie's father comes close to creating such a virtual idyll. Passing away before it's finished, he leaves her the key in the form of an app, and Evie finds herself transported to a world where the population is influenced by her personality. Everyone shines in her presence, until her devious cousin, Mallory, discovers the app... and the power to cause trouble in paradise.
My thoughts
This was a slow one for me but I enjoyed it when it got going. I hate Mallory though she has no understanding that actions have consequences.

I crashed and burned on American Gods, too. I could not get into the plot, or the characters, and the constant little seamy details just - wore me out? I'm not sure. I loved Gaiman's graphic novel, Stardust, though, so go figure.

5. Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet by Charlie N. Holmberg
Blurb
Maire is a baker with an extraordinary gift: she can infuse her treats with emotions and abilities, which are then passed on to those who eat them. She doesn’t know why she can do this and remembers nothing of who she is or where she came from.
When marauders raid her town, Maire is captured and sold to the eccentric Allemas, who enslaves her and demands that she produce sinister confections, including a witch’s gingerbread cottage, a living cookie boy, and size-altering cakes.
During her captivity, Maire is visited by Fyel, a ghostly being who is reluctant to reveal his connection to her. The more often they meet, the more her memories return, and she begins to piece together who and what she really is—as well as past mistakes that yield cosmic consequences
My thoughts
First I discovered this writter by falling into the paper magician and I loved it. So when things s came up in my kindle unlimited as a book I could read or listen to I was super excited. I love the idea that you can bake feelings and emotions into foods. I adore the characters and description given its wonderful. Amazing read.

6. Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen (Villains #1)
by Serena Valentino
Blurb
The tale of the young princess and her evil stepmother, the Wicked Queen, is widely known. Despite a few variations from telling to telling, the story remains the same—the Queen was jealous of the girl’s beauty, and this jealousy culminated in the Queen’s attempt on the sweet, naive girl’s life.
Another tale far less often spoken of is the one that explains what caused the Queen to become so contemptuously vile. Still, some have attempted to guess at the reason. Perhaps the Queen’s true nature was that of a wicked hag and her beautiful, regal appearance a disguise used to fool the King. Others claim that the Queen might have hated the girl for her resemblance to the King’s first wife. Mostly, the Queen is painted as a morally abhorrent woman who never loved another being during the course of her miserable life.
In fact, the theories about exactly what cause the Queen’s obsessive vanity and jealous rage are too numerous to catalog. This book recounts a version of the story that has remained untold until now. It is a tragic tale of love and loss, and it contains a bit of magic. It is a tale of the Wicked Queen…

11. Is This a Zombie?, Vol. 1 (Is This a Zombie? #1)
by Shinichi Kimura
Blurb
ME, I'M A ZOMBIE AND A "MAGIKEWL GIRL," MAN.
Life (or undeath?) isn't easy for Ayumu Aikawa. A seemingly normal high schooler, he is in fact a zombie serving as a bodyguard to an introverted necromancer. But his already complicated existence becomes even more outlandish when he accidentally steals the powers of a "magikewl girl," transforming into one himself. How's a reanimated corpse supposed to keep his head on his shoulders with roommates like these girls around the house?
My thoughts
I liked this read and hope to find more of them . It's not for everyone and there is some minor adult humor. It does come with a parental advisory warning on the cover. So totally not for younger readers.

Middle age can be murder ...
At least that’s how it seems to former crime journalist, Wilhelmina Chance, whose near-fatal accident has given her a strange side effect ... she sees ghosts.
After a messy divorce sends her fleeing back to her hometown of Mystic Notch, nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Willa finds herself haunted by the tenacious ghost of the town librarian who insists Willa solve her murder.
Luckily, she has lots of help, including a quirky cast of small-town characters, the cat she’s inherited from her grandmother, and her best friend, Pepper, who claims her herbal teas can work magic.
But just when Willa thinks she’s discovered who the killer is, she finds out that things are not what they seem in Mystic Notch, and the case takes a strange turn that has Willa adding even some of her long-time friends to her suspect list.
Can Willa find the real killer in time to keep the magical balance in Mystic Notch on the side of good, or will evil prevail?

It also touches on how having a relationship that is desperately wanted but is a crime is a thing. Beautiful story.
I hope someday the writter revists this idea and we find out more about these characters.

My thoughts
I usually don't pick up short story collections simply because I don't know if I will enjoy it. Most times it's only one of two of the writers i like that are part of it so it's not worth it.
With this one i was drawn in by the cover. And to my surprise i actually enjoyed most o the stories . The stories were well placed and paced fantastically. I loved this collection.

Blurb
Presented by James Patterson's new children's imprint, this deliciously creepy horror novel has a storyline inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion...
Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.
Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.
My Thoughtss
I have always been Fascinated with The Ripper case and anytime it comes up I look into the newest theory. The idea of a young girl of that time being involved with such a horrific crime and it's investigation served to further draw me in.
The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling read and one that will keep you up long last your bedtime.

I'm going to look for the book you read; I'm also looking for one called He Do The Time Police In Different Voices. I didn't have trouble with reading his writing style in Leaky Establishment; it reminds me a bit of Terry Pratchett but a bit more subtle and British.

46. The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil #1)
by Soman Chainani
The blurb
The first kidnappings happened two hundred years before. Some years it was two boys taken, some years two girls, sometimes one of each. But if at first the choices seemed random, soon the pattern became clear. One was always beautiful and good, the child every parent wanted as their own. The other was homely and odd, an outcast from birth. An opposing pair, plucked from youth and spirited away.
This year, best friends Sophie and Agatha are about to discover where all the lost children go: the fabled School for Good & Evil, where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains. As the most beautiful girl in Gavaldon, Sophie has dreamed of being kidnapped into an enchanted world her whole life. With her pink dresses, glass slippers, and devotion to good deeds, she knows she’ll earn top marks at the School for Good and graduate a storybook princess. Meanwhile Agatha, with her shapeless black frocks, wicked pet cat, and dislike of nearly everyone, seems a natural fit for the School for Evil.
But when the two girls are swept into the Endless Woods, they find their fortunes reversed—Sophie’s dumped in the School for Evil to take Uglification, Death Curses, and Henchmen Training, while Agatha finds herself in the School For Good, thrust amongst handsome princes and fair maidens for classes in Princess Etiquette and Animal Communication.. But what if the mistake is actually the first clue to discovering who Sophie and Agatha really are…?
The School for Good & Evil is an epic journey into a dazzling new world, where the only way out of a fairy tale is to live through one.
My thoughts
As previously stated i adore fairy tales. So when I saw School for Good and Evil i admit I was drawn in. The idea that there was such a school where the good were taught to be good and the villains were taught to be evil was neat.
It was a new take on the whole fairy tale thing.
At times the book gets really dark and you see glimpses of the true nature of fairy tales which more often than not did not end with happily ever after.
I would recommend this book to fans of fairy tales but I would say if you share the story with anyone 8 or under its one that needs to be read with an adult due to the fact that it does go dark at some points :)

A razor-sharp, adrenaline rush of a novel from award-winning author Juno Dawson, Clean is Gossip Girl meets Girl, Interrupted.
'Compulsively readable and touching - I loved it' Marian Keyes
When socialite Lexi Volkov almost overdoses, she thinks she's hit rock bottom.
She's wrong. Rock bottom is when she's forced into an exclusive rehab facility.
From there, the only way is up for Lexi and her fellow inmates, including the mysterious Brady.
As she faces her demons, Lexi realises love is the most powerful drug of all ...
It's a dirty business getting clean.
Addiction and redemption, love and despair. Clean will have you hooked from the first page.
My thoughts
I met juno Dawson last summer at yalc ( young adult literary convention) . I didn't know her writing i hadn't read any of her books or stories but I had a bag that I got that had a space for signatures and I was in a mission to collect as many writers named as I could.
She greeted me warmly and asked about my day and if I had had fun. She gave me a promo copy of Clean which she signed them she signed my bag too.
I went home from con and looked over my swag. It was amazing and I picked up my proof chapter and dived in. After finishing that thin shiny white covered book twice i knew that I needed to find out if Lexi surrived.
This has been an amazing read. It's so real and raw and I had to know what happened. I sat down with this book in the early hours of the morning and finished it just as the sun was setting and the day was ending.
Beautiful story thank you so much for giving us this voice.

50.Five-Carat Soul
by James McBride
The blurb
The stories in Five-Carat Soul--none of them ever published before--spring from the place where identity, humanity, and history converge. McBride explores the ways we learn from the world and the people around us. An antiques dealer discovers that a legendary toy commissioned by Civil War General Robert E. Lee now sits in the home of a black minister in Queens. Five strangers find themselves thrown together and face unexpected judgment. An American president draws inspiration from a conversation he overhears in a stable. And members of The Five-Carat Soul Bottom Bone Band recount stories from their own messy and hilarious lives.
My thoughts
The story i read from this collection was called goat and it was an episode of Lavar Burton's podcast.
It was brilliant.

51. Vengeance in Death (In Death #6) by J.D. Robb
The Blurb
He is an expert with the latest technology...a madman with the mind of a genius and the heart of a killer. He quietly stalks his prey. Then he haunts the police with cryptic riddles about the crimes he is about to commit--always solved moments too late to save his victims' lives.Police lieutenant Eve Dallas found the first victim butchered in his own home. The second lost his life in a vacant luxury apartment. The two men had little in common. Both suffered unspeakable torture before their deaths. And both had ties to an ugly secret of ten years past--a secret shared by none other than Eve's new husband, Roarke.
My Thoughts
I like a good murder mystery sometimes without the gore and details. Other times I need that grit and violence of a cyber city thriller. To me that is what the In death series is . If you have ever played a game of cyber punk and want to play a cop check these novels out , the detail and how things get done are fantastic. Eve is a well rounded character who has faults and flaws , her interactions with her husband are believable and the adult time are steamy . Well worth the time always.

Blurb
A princess, a traitor, a hunter and a thief. Four teenagers with the fate of the world in their hands. Four nations destined for conflict.
In Brigant, Princess Catherine prepares for a loveless political marriage arranged by her brutal and ambitious father. In Calidor, downtrodden servant March seeks revenge on the prince who betrayed his people. In Pitoria, feckless Edyon steals cheap baubles for cheaper thrills as he drifts from town to town. And in the barren northern territories, thirteen-year-old Tash is running for her life as she plays bait for the gruff demon hunter Gravell.
As alliances shift and shatter, and old certainties are overturned, our four heroes find their past lives transformed and their futures inextricably linked by the unpredictable tides of magic and war. Who will rise and who will fall? And who will claim the ultimate prize?
My thoughts
Normally i do not like stories that swap, shift and change like this one does. It drives me absolutely crazy and is normally why I put a book down or just loose interest all together.
This one was different i had to know Tash was ok and then I wanted to know what happened to Catherine and Ambrose . Would Catherine accept her arranged marriage or follow her heart? The need to find out how the story goes and how it will end compelled me to see it through.
I can't wait to see what happens next. I look forward to seeing the ride of Catherine the White and her Prince .

No one likes to be alone during the holidays. For New York's most posh dating service, Personally Yours, it is the season to bring lonely hearts together. But Lieutenant Eve Dallas, on the trail of a ritualistic serial killer, has made a disturbing discovery: all of the victims have been traced to Personally Yours. As the murders continue, Eve enters into an elite world of people searching for their one true love--and a killer searching for his next victim. A world where the power of love leads men and women into the ultimate act of betrayal...
My thoughts
I like mysteries but I don't do many like these as I found that as I've gotten older the need to know all the violent details of a crime has faded. However, my friend said I that if I wanted to run a good cyber punk cop then this was a must read set of books.
I admit I don't play cops in cyber punk but a cyber punk story built around a cop sure! I was up for that. I love the and her aide Peabody . I love her interactions with her husband roke .
These books are never full and time with eve is always well spent.
So if you like cyber punk, the idea of a tough female cop and some romance in the side these are the books for you.

58. Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (The Dowser #1)
by Meghan Ciana Doidge
Blurb
If you’d asked me a week ago, I would have told you that the best cupcakes were dark chocolate with chocolate cream cheese icing, that dancing in a crowd of magic wielders — the Adept — was better than sex, and that my life was peaceful and uneventful. Just the way I liked it.
That’s what twenty-three years in the magical backwater of Vancouver will get you — a completely skewed sense of reality. Because when the dead werewolves started showing up, it all unraveled … except for the cupcake part. That’s a universal truth.
My thoughts
As supernatural who done its go this is fast paced fantastically fun and the characters are believable without being over top .

Now a ruthless billionaire intends to try again, even if by doing so he awakens the Great Old Ones, who thwarted the earlier expedition. It's up to Bob and a collection of British eccentrics even Monty Python would consider odd to stop the bad guy and save the world, while getting receipts for all expenditures or else face the most dreaded menace of all: the Laundry's own auditors.

Lottie, our narrator, captures the experience of a young teenage girl navigating the world of school cliques, difficult teachers and new romance, creating a world that young readers are sure to recognize. Since her dad died, life hasn't been the same for Lottie - it was easier to push her friends away than cope with their awkwardness. But when the school suggest she joins Bake Club to get her back on track, Lottie reluctantly agrees. But Lottie's uncertainty about Bake Club melts away as she rekindles her love of baking and gets caught up with Mac, the school rebel and another unwilling Bake Club member. Both Lottie and Mac have secrets to keep, and as Bake Club progresses towards an end-of-year competition, the tension rises between the Bake Club members. Can Lottie keep up the facade of her perfect life without the others finding out what's really going on at home? Can Mac keep his demanding, heavy-handed father off his back - not to mention the school counsellor who's written him off as a no-hoper? And can their bubbling romance survive the pressure?

Secrets,Schemes and Seeing Machines is the companion novel to Katy Cannon’s delicious teen read, Love, Lies and Lemon Pies. Grace had a plan for this year – and it didn’t involve learning to sew. But when her world is turned upside down by a family secret, everything changes. Grace’s family is in need of patching up and she’s trying to focus on what really matters. But when new boy Connor appears on the scene, it doesn’t make things any easier. She’s desperate to prove to him that she’s not a drama queen – but why is what Connor thinks so important?
My thoughts
I loved her first book and this was wonderful. I got to meet the characters from the previous story so I still had a connection to them but it was also it's own story.
Perfect for a young person who just isn't sure if who they are anymore or where they are supposed to fit in their lives. I loved this story and look forward to the next.

by J.D. Robb
Blurb
Streetwise cop Eve Dallas and her trusty sidekick Peabody face a methodical killer in this latest addition to the In Death series by J.D. Robb, better known as the bestselling author Nora Roberts. In the late 21st century, on the streets of New York City, a street sleeper is found murdered, his diseased heart removed with surgical precision. His death would typically drop to the bottom of a list of senseless and inexplicable killings, but Lieutenant Dallas, who "would stand for the dead and the living," is not about to let that happen. When her research uncovers similar crimes in several cities that were dropped under mysterious circumstances, Dallas knows she's facing a killer cruel enough to prey on the weakest in society and powerful enough to conspire an extensive coverup. To complicate matters further, Dallas faces an equally troubling threat to her career when she's linked to the death of a fellow cop. Now she must fight to restore her good name as well as track down the killer.
In Conspiracy in Death, Roberts creates a futuristic world of evil that Eve Dallas negotiates through tough talk and brute force. While Robb crafts the crimes with great care, she assumes a familiarity with the characters that new readers will lack. But fans of the In Death series and newcomers alike will enjoy the thrill of the chase as Eve Dallas sets out to get her man.
