It sure looks like Armageddon out there! And what role Trump?

FWIW my daughter Tara was living out in Chico this spring and summer working at the Oroville Dam for the US Forestry Service. She'd just finished the same day that the fire destroyed the town of Paradise (about 30000 people) and she's coming home next week. We visited her for about a week and a half in September and stayed a night in Paradise. It was a nice place--built on a kind of slope. After the fire had burned out Paradise it headed right down the road towards Chico (about 90,000 people) and my daughter then moved down towards Sacramento for a couple nights just beating out the closure of the highway leading south so I and my wife have been watching this thing pretty closely.
FWIW again Trump is a petty shitbird. I suspect very strongly if this was another major hurricane and flood in Texas he wouldn't be at all put out helping out Gov. Abbott or Sen. Cruz. California isn't on his list of good places because it gives him no love or embrace when it comes to elections. He just got hit again in the mid-terms. Last I knew there were 5 known dead--burned beyond recognition. There could be hundreds more--no one knows. Not sure if he realizes that Paradise was located in Doug LaMalfa's congressional disctrict either. LaMalfa is every bit of a hard right winger as his practically only other California buddy still standing Devin Nunes. But all that aside the reason you do whatever you can for these people is because it's the right thing to do--and that he doesn't seem to realize very often what the right thing to do is in anything is reason why he's not fit to hold the office he has. He's a joke and a jerk and a pouter and a bully and he has 0 real empathy for anybody.

All on point. I'd say the best way to describe trump accurately and in a nutshell is to recognize that he is the only public figure extant in the U.S. of A. that has taken NPD - narcissistic personality disorder - to the ultimate - the reductio ad absurdum level.
On an international level I suppose he would best be compared to his suck-buddy Kim Jong Un.
As to history Stalin and Pol Pot come to mind. And of course Ayn Rand.

#3--they're all characteristics of a very spoiled pre-schooler. I could mention that he almost seems to take pride in not so much anti-intellectualism but a-intellectualism. Real thinking is the last thing on his mind. Recent case in point is his defense yesterday of his Whitaker pick where talking down to a reporter's question he uses as his reasons for making picks is appearances that some of these clowns make on 'news shows'. Couldn't he ever seek advice? Perhaps it's never occurred to him that appearing on TV is not really a qualifier for a govt. position. But he doesn't put the time required in to learn about anything--whether it's policy making or cabinet choices. Everything he does is about what's best for himself. Basically he's a fucking moron. All he has to do is think is any kind of shit and it's automatically true. Truthfully I wish he would croak.

Yup. I's lookin out my winda right now and theres fightin in the streets. Too bad we have a president like Trump who kills people. If only we could get Obama elected again because he ain't gonna kills no one.

A velleity shared by tens of millions of people, if not hundreds of millions, including me. - Nevertheless, one best left unexpressed publicly. Perhaps better would be to wish trump a long life - incarcerated in a state or federal prison.

Good ole Barn. Pissing INTO the wind, as usual.
------
If engendered embarrassment from trump's vulgarities, inanities and solipsistic displays of sheer unsophistication could kill then he would have slain millions by now with his on-going freak show. (Denied health care probably HAS killed more than a few by now, for reals.)
I look forward to trump's head exploding - metaphorically speaking, of course - in the short term. Will he eventually go with a whimper or a bang? It will continue to be the most engrossing reality show on the TV box, ever.
And, yes, Barn, at the end I predict the country
will survive nicely. The dead bodies in the street will "probably" be low in number compared to the country's population of three hundred million plus.

The bone spurs which kept Deferment Donald out of the Vietnam War have prevented him from attending a ceremony in the rain at the Belleau cemetery.

#6--I'm not into torture....and there's no chance of a pardon if you're already dead.
#8--yeah I mentioned that in another thread here. It was raining too hard....didn't stop Macron, Merkel or Trudeau though and no one ever gave those Marines who died at Belleau Wood a chance to get out of the weather or even the shells dropping on top of them. My two grandfathers both fought in WWI--my great uncle was gassed and spent practically his entire life after that in a sanitarium.
....and I can absolutely respect what Muhammed Ali did during the Vietnam war--he thought the war was wrong but he didn't run away. Trump's a runner.

There's an old saying about missing the forest for the trees. I can see why people don't have a clue about politics if what they consider important are trivialities like whether the president attends a ceremony in the rain. But people who are so prejudiced don't need trivialities. Their hatred recycles itself. Too bad we can't run cars on hatred. If we could, Democrats would solve the auto fuel problem.
It's a neat trick. Insisting one is nice and moral while spewing hatred and anger. Squaring a circle. Neat trick. I would rather have draft dodging president than a country full of Democrats.

So far, it's all talk.
President Trump discusses Amazon fires with controversial Brazilian leader Jair Bolsonaro
A U.S. official said there has been no formal request from Bolsonaro's government, but there have been conversations between them and the U.S. about assistance fighting the fires.
A State Department spokesperson said Brazil "has not yet requested assistance. ... We stand ready to consider any such request."
…
Bolsanaro's government has come under criticism for its role in the exploding rate of wildfires in the critical natural environment. There have been over 9,500 fires just since last Thursday … While it's unclear if the fires were natural or deliberately set, Bolsonaro's government has called for a double-digit increase in deforestation.
