I expect >1 krazy4katz: is wondering whether "canonization" or "canonicalization" is correct in this context.

There is a name Tadhg, pronounced Tag, in Irish. It means poet or philosopher. Given that Ireland was know as The Land of Saints and Scholars it is very possible there is at least one St. Tadhg.

>7 pgmcc: Which part of the country are you in? Here in the West, I've never heard it said as anything but 'tige' (long i, hard g).

>9 bluepiano: I first met a Tadhg in Roscrea in the 1990s. That is where I picked up the pronounciation. I am living in Dublin and sure you couldn’t be believin’ anything the Dubs would say. :-)

I’m from Belfast originally.

My reading of your “long i, hard g” corresponds to my pronounciation so perhaps we have slightly different views on the pronounciation of long i. Accent variations could do that. To me long i would sound like the word eye. With a hard g that would give me tag. T-eye-g.

What we need to carry on this discusdion is a pub and several pints of Guinness.
