The SeriesCAT for May is the newest book in a favorite series. This is slightly different from the March SeriesCAT which was a series by a favorite author although some people read the latest in a series. There are so many series being published that it will be interesting to see what people's favorite series are.
This challenge was updated April 16th to include either the next book in a favorite series or the newest book in a favorite series since so many people want to read their series in order.

My favorite series is the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. I'm planning to read The American Agent which just appeared in March.
3majkia
I've got Kellanved's Reach, latest and last in a Malazan trilogy. And Tiamat's Wrath, latest book of The Expanse series.
4beebeereads
I can't wait to read The Satapur Moonstone. It doesn't come out until May 14th, but I'm already on the library hold list. Fingers crossed!
5LittleTaiko
I'm really hoping that my library finally gets in An Artless Demise by Anna Lee Huber as I love her Lady Darby series! There's also Whisper of Death by Patricia Wynn which is the most recent in the Blue Satan series.
6rabbitprincess
I jumped the gun on this CAT and read The Golden Tresses of the Dead, by Alan Bradley, back when it first came out! Flavia de Luce is one of my favourite heroines.
7christina_reads
The latest in Lucy Parker's London Celebrities series, The Austen Playbook is coming out at the end of this month, so I'll almost definitely read it first thing in May!
8Robertgreaves
I'm thinking of Ring of Silence by Mark Zubro. It's not an absolute favourite series but it is one I was up to date and then the author brought out a new book in the series.
9dudes22
My problem is that I'm not caught up with any of the series I read and I hate to read out of order. But I've been told by a few people that I can read the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child out of order so I'm going to read Past Tense.
10LibraryCin
>9 dudes22: I was going to say something similar. I'm never caught up! I'm thinking I'm just going to pick a favourite series (though I'm not sure how I'll do that, either!) and read the next one in the series.
11LibraryCin
Got one! And I think it is the most recent (surprisingly!):
The Trespasser / Tana French

On 2nd May a new book gets its pb release for one of the very few series I'm caught up with. This gives me the perfect excuse (not that I really needed one) to go shopping for In the Galway Silence by Ken Bruen.
13sallylou61
>9 dudes22:, >10 LibraryCin: . Since many people want to read the books in a series in order, I think it's fine to read the next book in a favorite series even if it is not the newest book. This would open the challenge up to more people. I don't see any other month in this challenge which features a favorite series.
14majkia
>13 sallylou61: :) Thanks! Of all my series, I think I have only two that would originally fit.
15DeltaQueen50
I will have to resort to reading the next book in a favorite series as I am not caught up in any of them. I will be reading The Devil's Star by Jo Nesbo, part of the Harry Hole series, and A Murder Is Announced by Agatha Christie, featuring Miss Marple.
16cyderry
I'm planning to read Room Service, Mother's Day Mayhem and Murder with Cucumber Sandwiches. The first is set in New Orleans and is the latest in the Innkeepers series, the second is one of my absolute favorites - the Tourist Trap series by Lynn Cahoon (I love all her cozies!), and the other is the most recent Daisy Tea Garden mystery due out May 28th! I discovered Karen Rose Smith's works last year and the Tea Garden series in particular and love her writing.
17beebeereads
>13 sallylou61: Oh that does open it up! Now if my library doesn't come through with the new one I want, I'll easily choose next one in a favorite series...ooooh, now I have to choose a favorite! Although I would probably not list it as a favorite, I always seem to make time for an Elly Griffiths Ruth Galloway. So I guess that must be a favorite by some definitions! I'm on Number 7.
18LibraryCin
Ok, well, the audio I'd put on hold for The Trespasser came in already! As I just finished my current audio (and have another one on hold, but not ready for me yet), I will start this one early.
19MissWatson
I'm saving Record of a spaceborn few for this.
20dudes22
>13 sallylou61: - That's great. I have a lot of favorite series so I'll have to see what I can pick now.
21EBT1002
I'm going to read Benediction by Kent Haruf - last in the trilogy.
22whitewavedarling
Picking a favorite series, for me, is about as hard as picking a single favorite book or author--pretty much impossible, in other words! But, I'm thinking I'm going to read The Summer Children, which I could probably say is my most recent favorite series. I thought the third book was the finishing point for the series, so I'd been holding off and wanting to make sure I had time to savor it, but I learned recently there'll be a fourth published at the end of May! Needless to say, I'm excited and kind of love this series, so it'll be a good fit.
23cbl_tn
I was just approved for a NetGalley ARC of Big Sky by Kate Atkinson, the newest Jackson Brodie due out in June.
24EBT1002
>23 cbl_tn: Cool beans!
25streamsong
I'm not sure I have a favorite series, either; it's like choosing a favorite child. I've enjoyed the Rosie series and The Rosie Result will.be released in May so I hope my library will get a copy in time.
I'd also like to read the newest Lola Wicks by Gwen Florio.
Neither is on Planet TBR. Sigh

I'm just glad it says "...a favorite series" rather than "the favorite of your series." *grin*
27mnleona
Started Stone Cold Heart by Laura Griffin yesterday. My first read but it is the Tracers series.
28pamelad
As a Garry Disher fan I'm pleased to see that there's a new book in the Wyatt series, Kill Shot.
29LadyoftheLodge
I am planning to read The Colors of All the Cattle by Alexander McCall Smith. I still need to get caught up with two more in this series that are on my Kindle!
30LisaMorr
>13 sallylou61: Yay! I'm in the same boat as many here, and am not caught on any series. I just finished Lord of Chaos in The Wheel of Time series a couple days ago, and this is a great excuse to jump right into A Crown of Swords.
31NinieB
No shortage of favorite series at my house! I've identified several candidates:
*No Barrier by Eleanor Dark, third in a trilogy about the early years of European settlement in Australia.
*Man Missing by Mignon G. Eberhart, the last Sarah Keate mystery.
*Chain of Violence by Lesley Egan, the last Vic Varallo mystery.
*Mistress Pat by L. M. Montgomery, second of the duology.
*Lamb to the Slaughter by Jennifer Rowe, last of the Verity Birdwood mysteries. Rowe writes YA novels as Emily Rodda.
*The Singing Sands by Josephine Tey, last Alan Grant mystery.

Read and loved An Artless Demise by Anna Huber the most recent book in her Lady Darby series. The way she weaves historical fact with a good mystery is impressive. Now I just have to wait another year for the next one.
33Robertgreaves
COMPLETED Ring of Silence of Mark Zubro
It occurred to me while reading this that the characters are not aging naturally in this series. The kids should be in their thirties by now!

I finished the fourth book in the Commissaire Dupin series, Bretonischer Stolz. Newest for me, if not the series. A decent mystery, but then I read these to savour the location: Brittany.
35EBT1002
COMPLETED Benediction by Kent Haruf
I'm glad this challenge got me to finally finish this exquisite trilogy.

The Trespasser / Tana French
4 stars
When Aislinn (pronounced Ashleen – I only know this because I listened to the audio!) is found dead in her home, next to a table set for what looked to be a romantic dinner, the boyfriend is the immediate suspect. But, there might be more to it. Antoinette and Steve are partners on the murder squad, but Antoinette, as the only woman on the squad, has had to take a lot of crap and she’s getting tired of it! Antoinette and Steve are pushed by some of the other detectives to simply arrest the boyfriend and call it a day. But they want an air-tight case.
Another really good book in the series! I also really like the audios of these. I haven’t listened to them all, but I have for many of them, and they are always done really well. I like the Irish accent, too. I also always enjoy the personal stories of the detectives in these books. I was always kept wanting to read more, to find out how things were going to unfold. Really enjoyed this one!

I also finished Record of a spaceborn few, the latest in the Wayfarer series. Just great. I love the world she has built, and her female characters.
38DeltaQueen50
I have completed The Devil's Star by Jo Nesbo, one of my favorite police procedural series.
39LadyoftheLodge
I completed The Colors of All the Cattle by Alexander McCall Smith, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have two more in the series that I skipped and now I need to go back and read those.

My intended read of In the Galway Silence has been slightly delayed as local stockists have decided not to add it to their shelves so far so I've ordered it through Evil corp and will just have to wit til it turns up. I have, however, procured a copy of Lies Sleeping which also fits this topic nicely.
42VivienneR
>41 AHS-Wolfy: Dave, you've just reminded me to get back to Ken Bruen. I've a few to read before I get to In the Galway Silence.
43NinieB
I read No Barrier by Eleanor Dark, and completed the Timeless Land trilogy, about the founding and growth of New South Wales through 1815. It's a really good book, but I recommend reading the entire trilogy, which as a trilogy is fully deserving of five stars.
44pamelad
Finished Kill Shot by Garry Disher, the latest in his Wyatt series.

Letting people know that FictFact.com has closed its site. You can download your series files for the next few weeks.
I never realized how useful it was until I started the SeriesCat challenge.

Finally read the latest in Patricia Wynn's Blue Satan series - Whisper of Death. Really happy to revisit these characters.
47beebeereads
Finished The Ghost Fields which is my next one in a favorite series. Working my way through the Ruth Galloway series...light, readable and steeped in history.
48NinieB
>47 beebeereads: I'm taking a book bullet for this series (like I really need another . . .). I love archaeology mysteries.

Finished The Summer Children by Dot Hutchison, having started it yesterday--because I haven't been able to put down any of the books in this series. Review below, because I adore it so much that I want anyone interested to know about it...
Hutchison has, without question, become my favorite author--I devour her books within 36 or so hours of beginning them, virtually unable to put them down. Beyond being a talented writer, she creates works which revolve around such real and flawed characters, and marry such brilliant darkness to incredible moments, that the books create their own dark little world of too-believable wonder.
And yet, there's no doubt that these books are too dark, even too terrible, for many readers. They revolve around trauma and despair, focused in on characters who are struggling to help themselves or others to survive, and Hutchison doesn't flinch from exploring the darkest moments, the darkest thoughts. The fast pacing and the carrying of characters from one book to the next also make them distinctive reads--not for anyone who'd want to read them out of order or not be able to stomach the first and darkest of the series, The Butterfly Garden, and certainly not for anyone who'd prefer they be stand-alones. Together, these three first books in The Collector Series are far greater than they would be apart.
So, do I recommend them? Only if you dare. Just make sure you start with the first, The Butterfly Garden. And, if the blurb on back sounds too dark, you're probably better off not starting. Yet, I'll close by saying I absolutely adore these books, their characters, and everything about them, down to the darkest moments, the dirtiest of jokes, and the most dangerous thoughts.

>50 whitewavedarling: You got me! I feel like I need to go out right now and get The Butterfly Garden!
ETA - I took a book bullet from you on this one a little while ago; given your rousing review of #3, I definitely feel the need to ACT NOW!

>51 LisaMorr:, I'm glad :) I adore this series. #4 came out May 18th, but I haven't had a chance to go get it yet...

I finished Empire of grass, the latest book in Tad Williams' Osten Ard series, fresh off the press, before I left to spend a long weekend with my sister. Which is why I'm a bit late in posting.
54mathgirl40
Sorry to be so late with my update, but I did finish Police from Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole series and Revenant Gun from Yoon Ha Lee's Machineries of Empire series for this challenge.
